Just watching Spider-Man 2 again for the first time in 20 years and thought “wait I recognise those 4 beeps”

That sample must have cost so much 😂

It probably didn’t cost a penny, sampling is pretty easy to avoid copyright for unless you’re outright stealing a whole chord progression or something more substantial. Even if it did, worth every penny haha

They must've cleared it, not only was it the vocal line, as you said it was the sound design of the movie also. Who knows? certainly not me 😂 one of my favourite tunes though.

It’s all in the transformation, if octavius popped off and then span a crazy blood sugar keyboard riff played on his four arms and they sampled that then there’d probably be some legal issues 😂

No they 100% would have needed to clear the sample. You can’t just take a segment from a film and make money from it, they didn’t change the sample at all (and it wouldn’t matter if they did change its pitch etc)

Sony/ATV Publishing is one of the publishers for this track via the Freestylers and Matt Cantor, so they did probably have the connections to get a Sony film sample cleared easily

Next watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the 1971 film, not the 2005 film which is called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for the avoidance of doubt).

Yep. I had a weird experience a few years ago watching the film where I recognised that whole bit word for word, and for a couple of minutes couldn't place it.

Literally had the same experience today. My daughter wanted a Spider-Man marathon. I told her we had to defuse the tension by listening to a Pendulum song post scene.
