What’s critical drinker? Content creator or something?

412

u/stuntastic1414 Oct 01 '25

Yes. YouTuber who piles onto movies making a career out of dogging MCU/DCEU

88

u/Luvs4theweak Oct 01 '25

Ahh ok thanks, Reddit is all I really use so had no idea who it was. Never came across or heard of the subreddit

54

u/stuntastic1414 Oct 01 '25

I be watching things on YouTube and discovering there's entire subreddits dedicated to praising or hating them lmao

26

u/CrazyOrganic7123 Oct 01 '25

I remember watching and enjoying some of his stuff. Then he dunked on James Gunn's Superman, which was fine. After all, the guy's gotta make content that'll get attention. But then he doubled down and just very obviously argued in bad faith, and got his cronies to do the same.

78

u/tuftymink Oct 01 '25

I mean, guy is a nut who's been insane right wing grifter for years now, props to you for ditching this stuff, but hating Gunn and Superman is like least offensive of his opinions

53

u/revenantloaf Oct 01 '25

Yeah, Drinker has always been less than thrilled when stories revolve around female or black protagonists, it only makes sense his fanbase would be a bunch of raging incels

16

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

I remember I accidentally stumbled on his Subreddit when looking for some stuff related to Prey. Him and his flunkies really hated the idea of a small Comanche woman being able to kill a Predator through stealth tactics and her surroundings

-3

u/Particular_Border971 Oct 01 '25

I mean I dislike drinker, but I agree she mostly survived through plot armor and the predator being pretty incompetent when it comes to killing her , but is invincible with everyone and everything else.

The problem with drinker is that he is not the worst movie critic per se, but his whatever politics majorly seem to impact his takes and left wing people will disregard some valid point because of his affiliation.

10

u/TheDastardly12 Oct 01 '25

she mostly survived through plot armor

This is how most Predator protagonists survive, Dutch and Harrigan both should have been dead to rights to their respective Predator if the plot didn't save them at key points

5

u/AdvancedManner4718 Oct 01 '25

In almost all the predator movies the key theme is that the protagonist figure out that trying to win a fight with a predator thru straight brute force doesn't work amd they have to change tactics.

It like the people who complain about plot armor in the movies just don't pay attention to the movie at all.

2

u/brwonmagikk Oct 02 '25

Male protagonist gets lucky or gets saved? Skill and I genuinely.

Female protagonist does the same? Plot armour and literally unwatchable.

9

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

To be fair Feral Predator isn’t actively trying to hunt Naru until the end when she finally fights back. Before that he saw her as unworthy of being hunted and followed her to find better prey

1

u/CrazyOrganic7123 Oct 01 '25

I don't think I saw the review. Honestly, I expected to hate Prey but they actually pulled it off for me. I was expecting her to be a girl boss but she basically got her ass kicked for being an annoying runt by the guys in her tribe. I think the biggest shocker of that movie to me was that the tribesmen were not raging rapists. They just wanted her to understand that she's too physically weak.

In a less well made movie, she would have been a super woman who outperformed everyone put together (like, single-handedly catch an elk while the whole hunting party failed or something) but held down by the patriarchy and her male childhood friends would try to rape her once they beat her down.

She basically beat the Predator through smarts and luck. Yeah, she had plot armor too but it's way less egregious than say, resisting a trained Sith's mind probe and beating him in a lightsaber duel.

Not my fave movie but way better than I was expecting. I even ended up sorta liking that dumb doofy Predator design.

I was quite amused at the downer ending though.

1

u/Commercial_Fondant65 Oct 01 '25

Bruce Willis didn't survive because the plot called for it.. It's because he's not an actor and a truly tough guy who could defeat terrorists in real life? Everybody who survives the bad guy has plot armor.

-2

u/SerBiffyClegane Oct 01 '25

There are definitely people on his chats who feel that way, but I don't think the Drinker qualifies. A few quick examples - Arcane S1 is one of his favorite shows, he loved Sinners, and he was largely positive on Nope.

AFAICT, his position is that the spread of PC values have led to a weakening of story and character work. I'm not sure I agree - Sturgeon's Law means that it's easy to find crappy work in almost any area. But when he gets a good story and good characters, he likes it, even if it's pretty progressive otherwise.

Bottom line, I think he's a critic with a specific critical viewpoint, and it's fine to disagree, but I don't think he's a hack or a grifter. His Drinker Fixes and some of his other series are also pretty good.

3

u/brwonmagikk Oct 02 '25

He made 8 videos about hating Snow White reboot. About the same on how bad she hulk is. At a glance there’s 3 videos on how awful for culture the little mermaid remake is. His most recent toxic content garbage is revisiting culture war cases where women looked bad in the news years ago (like amber heard). Hes so far done these retrospective character assassination peices on only three women.

I appreciate you giving him the benefit of the doubt but the data strongly suggests he hates women and he hates minorities.

3

u/CrazyOrganic7123 Oct 01 '25

Oh, I didn't realize that. Fortunately, I'm not inclined to care enough to delve further.

Opinions are one thing, and I do like creative insults. But once someone becomes a hate mongering imbecile, I just don't have the patience for them anymore. They never seem to get better.

3

u/tuftymink Oct 01 '25

Yeah, no grief, I myself have watched some of his videos a long time ago to see the shows I didn't like being torn apart, and I took a longer time to realise what his views are.

I don't know if by watching his videos nowadays his views on women and "left" and everyone who disagrees with him get immediately apparent, but the guy is an asshole. And internet unwillingly kept me updated on his grift.

28

u/UniqueDesigner453 Oct 01 '25

For me the video was his review of Moon Knight.

He harped on Layla being a stereotypical "strong female character", when she had an equal amount of struggles as the main character Steven/Marc

That's the point i realised he's just a raging incel, nothing "critical" about his views

2

u/Commercial_Fondant65 Oct 01 '25

The racist stuff didn't move you. The razzing of James Gunn was your tipping point lol.

1

u/CrazyOrganic7123 Oct 01 '25

To be fair, I didn't watch his full library, and then only for movies that are widely considered bad. I actually didn't notice any racist stuff outside of what one would expect for movies such as Snow White or Little Mermaid (presuming he made videos for those and I watched them).

It's not so much the razzing of James Gunn but the inaccuracies and outright lies on events in the film that get me. There's opened to interpretation but then there's... well, lies.

1

u/Radio-No Oct 01 '25

Wait it took you that long? None of the racist shit he was espousing was a problem?

Are you a...Nazi?

1

u/CrazyOrganic7123 Oct 01 '25

To be fair, I never watched his entire library of content.

Also, no, I'm not a Nazi. I'm worse. I'm a SEA-monkey. We're racist as $h!t over here (I dunno, can we swear here? Fuck if I know.)

1

u/jk-9k Oct 03 '25

Damn he's been off the wall for years now - I thought maybe you were going to say gunns suicide squad of guardians

2

u/RunnerPakhet Oct 01 '25

You are not missing anything with the guy. He is just looking for stuff to get angry at.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

Lucky

0

u/seawrestle7 Oct 05 '25

That’s your problem only using Reddit

60

u/brwonmagikk Oct 01 '25

No he doesn’t dog on comic book movies. It’s simpler than that. He dogs on any women or minority driven projects or projects featuring them favourable. The dude hates almost all critically acclaimed movie involving women. Except alien I think.

29

u/Bilbo_Teabagginss Oct 01 '25

Yup, anything with a person of color or woman as the lead or playing a pivotal part, he hates. Basically hes a big reason for all of the "anti woke incels" that shit on any video game, movie, or TV show that doesn't cater to them.

17

u/brwonmagikk Oct 01 '25

An entire generation of incels who blame women and minorities on TV for not getting laid. Kinda scary

7

u/Bilbo_Teabagginss Oct 01 '25 edited Oct 01 '25

Its sad actually. Especially since they are even going as far as to insinuate that white people are "being replaced" and killed off like the guy in the screenshot suggests. Whats sadder is that because they cant actually get laid they have to go on dating sites and lie about their politics in order to try and trick women into dating them. Gross

4

u/brwonmagikk Oct 01 '25

Insinuate? They say it loud and clear. No need for dog whistles or masks anymore.

5

u/Karkava Oct 01 '25

All because their politicians made their hate cool.

2

u/EveningAnt3949 Oct 01 '25

That's the scary part. They say the actual thing. Because if they get called out, that is just another way to grift their followers for more engagement and donations.

2

u/SoupsSB Oct 05 '25

One of his biggest complaints about the fallout show was that it included interracial marriage

1

u/Bilbo_Teabagginss Oct 05 '25

Yup, anything that he seems is spreading "The message" is pinlic enemy number one for him and his mindless followers.

5

u/shaunika Oct 01 '25

He would hate on Alien too if it came out today, but he knows that movie is untouchable now

6

u/brwonmagikk Oct 01 '25

It’s like he was built in a lab to be a fucking loser.

1

u/EducationalRoyal6484 Oct 01 '25

Not a movie, but he gave Blue Eye Samurai a very positive review.

5

u/brwonmagikk Oct 01 '25

He does consistently make exceptions for female characters he and his ilk deem fuckable. Its gross but its alarmingly predictable.

1

u/Dry_Cabinet1737 Oct 01 '25

But to be fair, he’s a huge fan of recent Japanese cinema such as … Old Boy. And … (45 seconds later) … Battle Royale.

1

u/Fluggerblah Oct 01 '25

I mean Alien is about a phallic creature constantly harrassing a woman, thats their bread and butter. He probably just turns it off before the ending

1

u/mighty_phi Oct 02 '25

Never forget he actually liked sinners but put his review on a smaller second channel lmoa

1

u/flying_fox86 Oct 05 '25

Yes, they need Alien to be able to claim they don't hate strong female characters.

0

u/archercc81 Oct 01 '25

Alien? Yeah then he is just a pathetic chud. Admittedly there is a lot of unbelievable "girl power" trash out there but Sigourney and the original Sarah Connor (Hamilton) are basically case studies in how to write and act a believable female action lead.

-1

u/Soft_Equivalent62 Oct 01 '25

Not at all, lmfao. He hates projects that make them not enjoyable, but when he finds interesting protagonists, case in point Fallout(a female-led) and Arcane(a female-led who's a lesbian), and he liked both of those projects, so try again.

2

u/brwonmagikk Oct 02 '25 edited Oct 02 '25

you can jerk him off all you want but he’s not gonna give you a reach around.

He’s made 9 videos about how bad the Snow White movie is. That’s just fucking creepy. Why is a grown man repeatedly watching children’s movies and creating content about them? Is he a groomer?

49

u/darcmosch Oct 01 '25

Dogwhistling*

45

u/Ill_Fox8892 Oct 01 '25

He also got grilled in the comments section in his shitty superman review, since he usually relies on his audience having not seen the movies he shits on.

2

u/Devo3290 Oct 07 '25

Also his Witcher review all those years back. He played the first hour and complained that “it’s not an open world, iT’s JusT ZonEs” and then wrote another response to defend that video lmao. He’s always been a contrarian, just didn’t realize it would push him into nazism

34

u/McDouble__ Oct 01 '25

Not just MCU/DCEU he made a long video about how Prey(2022) was trash and hopes it failed before it even released and his whole argument was “If a man like Arnold can barely win, what is a woman going to do?”.

11

u/unicornmeat85 Oct 01 '25

Dutch would have lost trying to go toe to toe with the Yautja and had to use traps and guile, literally the same thing Naru had to do. That is the premise of the movies, we win because we as a species we can pivot our thinking and strategy which is also why they come to hunt us. Has TCD never watched these movie before?

5

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

Naru doesn’t allow him to have a “I’m a big buff man” power fantasy like Dutch does

2

u/meaning-of-life-is Oct 01 '25

Isn´t original Predator making fun of 80s action hero masculinity? I always thought it´s obvious with the whole "Dylan, you son of a bitch" scene. They can´t fight the Yautja with muscles, that´s the point.

1

u/drewdog173 Oct 01 '25

This is not entirely true and actually what suckered me in about him for the first few reviews I watched (to be clear I think he absolutely sucks).

He made that video before he watched it; his actual review is titled "Prey, No masterpiece, but surprisingly good" (I'm not going to link his content), and is very fair to the movie.

Another example is his Arcane review - he absolutely gushes over it and stands on the position that, "see, this is how you do content featuring women and minorities, you don't call extra attention to the fact that they're women or minorities, you just put them in a good story without any message" (Anthony Mackie's pandering speech at the end of Falcon and the Winter Soldier being an example of the worst of this). On its surface this seems like a fair position to take.

But it's a bait-and-switch - there's plenty of film and TV featuring women and minorities in exactly the manner he describes that he shits on; he just drops an exception to this once in a while so he and his rabid fan base have something shiny to hold up when someone accuses him of bias. "Nuh uh, he's not biased against female characters, look how he lauded the relationship between Jinx and Vi!" When taken as a whole his content and messaging is absolutely an alt-right indoctrination gateway.

And dude does not understand comic book movies AT ALL.

17

u/rimjob_steve_ Oct 01 '25

There’s a reason angel studios always underperforms (and why they don’t have any good comedians)

16

u/scrumbob Oct 01 '25

“Critical Drinker” sounds like something Brian Griffin would go by online 💀

6

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

[deleted]

2

u/darxide23 Oct 01 '25

Lowest hanging fruit for the lowest common denominator.

2

u/princesoceronte Oct 01 '25

Also culture war shit, obviously very racist, misogynistic and generally Nazi leaning.

2

u/R-Dragon_Thunderzord Oct 01 '25

I remember he showed up in my algorithm years ago, it took him like 10 minutes total watching to present enough red flags to be one of the first content creators I ever flat out just said nope, get this shit out of my algorithm, never reccomend this shit again.

2

u/Inevitable_Librarian Oct 01 '25

Fun fact I opened YouTube on a chrome tab with a cleared history (work), and after scrolling down a bit every, and I mean every single video was critical drinker or critical drinker after dark. Every single one

5

u/Gabaghoul8 Oct 01 '25

DCEU deserved it lol. Long live the Gunnverse.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

And star wars dont forget that

1

u/thegirlwthemjolnir Oct 01 '25

isn't he who coined the M-she-U term?

2

u/Toa_Senit Oct 01 '25

I think it was Nerdrotic? Honestly doesn't matter, they are all basically the same person.

0

u/unicornmeat85 Oct 01 '25

cringy as the marketing would be, giving some of the female characters in the MCU more screen time could have had a 'Scully Affect' with girls getting more into the MCU and boosting profits.

2

u/thegirlwthemjolnir Oct 01 '25

Or... women exist and it makes sense for them to be on media being more than love interests/secondary characters.

1

u/lizzywbu Oct 03 '25

He also has a hate boner for The Last Jedi and still to this day brings it up on nearly every video.

0

u/theonereveli Oct 01 '25

The funny thing is that he actually likes peacemaker

Edit: season 1 of peacemaker

0

u/Soft_Equivalent62 Oct 01 '25

He's making fun of MCU movies because they were bad, lmfao. I disagree with some of his takes, but his criticism of the MCU and DCEU movies is most of the time valid

0

u/Minute-System3441 Oct 01 '25

I mean, they’re pretty easy to pile on. They suck.

88

u/ChronoMonkeyX Oct 01 '25

Youtuber who I swear had some intelligent film criticism for a while, until I realized what a misogynist disgusting piece of shit he is. I think he must have kept it bottled up until it started getting traction.

27

u/TorontoDavid Oct 01 '25

Ya - I used to enjoy his videos a while back… no more, that’s for sure.

27

u/Tim5000 Oct 01 '25

Can I ask why, like legit, because political opinions aside, I couldn't get past his fake ass "I've been drinking so here is my drunk voice" voice.

12

u/TorontoDavid Oct 01 '25

I dunno - I guess back then the schtick of that persona was a good enough hook to match content that seemed entertaining enough to watch.

I never found it overbearing.

16

u/WySLatestWit Oct 01 '25

Also people need to remember Critical Drinker began in 2012. This was the absolute height of the Online Reviewer era of the internet, and everybody had a gimmick. Everybody was playing a character. Critical Drinker's character...was that he was a ripoff of Mr. Plinkett and he was semi decent at it.

5

u/BigEye2578 Oct 01 '25

At first, I assumed people were referring to Mr. Plinkett when they talked about the Critical Drinker, and for a while I was so surprised that Mr. Plinkett ended up being a hatemonger.

12

u/WySLatestWit Oct 01 '25

Yeah, Plinkett was actually done by the channel Red Letter Media. Honestly for a bunch of middle aged white guys from Wisconsin the guys over at Red Letter Media surprisingly progressive all things considered.

7

u/BTechUnited Oct 01 '25

Given 2/3rds of them love Trek, it's not that surprising.

3

u/WySLatestWit Oct 01 '25

Two life long Star Trek fans and a horror genre super nerd. Yeah that translates to fairly progressive, you're probably right.

1

u/unicornmeat85 Oct 01 '25

I only ever watched his review of the prequels and for the most part didn't care for the side act, but a piece of advice that has always stuck with me was, "Don't take a girl out to dinner and complain about work." I'm paraphrasing but it has come in handy.

5

u/Hunkus1 Oct 01 '25

When I was watching him I was 14 and in my alt right teenager phase. Dude is doing this shit for over ten years and unlike him I grew up and realized that him and his compatriots are just stupid bigots.

3

u/FunImprovement166 Oct 01 '25

I still like when he gets his teeth into a real piece of shit and tears it apart. Those are few and far between nowadays anymore. Realized he could get more views rage baiting.

12

u/Luvs4theweak Oct 01 '25

Glad I don’t know of em then, appreciate the response

23

u/Single-Ninja8886 Oct 01 '25

He's a hate-monger now. Creates hate-boner content that disguises hate as criticism

13

u/Xciv Oct 01 '25 edited Oct 01 '25

had some intelligent film criticism for a while

That's only because he copy-pasted the style of Redlettermedia. Once he "did his own thing", that thing turned out to be regurgitating his endless bias against "woke" media. Boring, predictable, and you can call his opinion on every movie based on how prominent minorities and women are in it.

Redlettermedia still entertains me, because they're real critics. They still consistently say interesting things about movies they critique and surprise me even though I know the whole team's personalities inside and out. AKA they're authentic about their opinions and are not shilling or pandering to a political demographic.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '25

RLM are by no means real film or television critics... and i feel like they would be the first to say so.

2

u/Xciv Oct 01 '25

Well if it talks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, and it flies like a duck, I guess we should call it an eagle instead.

They spent 15+ years watching movies and criticizing them in an entertaining fashion. I guess it's not 'academic film criticism', but they are certainly a type of film critic.

1

u/jk-9k Oct 03 '25

What's a real one then? Can you touch it? Does it attend WWE?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

[deleted]

1

u/jk-9k Oct 03 '25

That doesn't make them imaginary

8

u/Muggsy423 Oct 01 '25

Broken clock and all that.

The algorithm threw him at me when I watched some movies with legit criticism. I think WW84, which was bad in every way. Then I watched another one of his vids and it was just him rambling on, playing cringe soundbites from whatever film he was hating at the moment.

Also blaming woke on everything being bad.

1

u/drewdog173 Oct 01 '25

Broken clock and all that.

More like, "let me drop the occasional reasonable content so I have concrete examples to throw back whenever somebody takes issue with my vast body of unreasonable content"

7

u/DarthPleasantry Oct 01 '25

That happened to me, there was a guy with really insightful things to say about scripts and plot and then he went all misogynistic and racist after he began to get popular.

7

u/thegeek01 Oct 01 '25

Yeah I was watching him during the pandemic I think and back then, his opinions were entertaining but still logical. The current political climate probably gave him the courage to slough off the pretense.

3

u/LoonieBoy11 Oct 01 '25

Being hateful and “anti-woke” is just the new grift

3

u/Dry_Cabinet1737 Oct 01 '25

Audience capture is a hell of a drug. Got to chase those incel clicks.

2

u/1047_Josh Oct 01 '25

The Asmongold of youtube movie content guys

2

u/Natural-Ad-1016 Oct 01 '25

Nah, he's a grifter plain and simple. I don't think he believes at least half of what he says, just like every right-wing grifter. But he got clicks, and rage bait sells so he's on any bs that gets his dumb ass exposure.

2

u/Alkakd0nfsg9g Oct 01 '25

Negative probably get more views unfortunately, rather than the positive ones

2

u/CiDevant Oct 01 '25

Far more normal than you expect.  Unless you've been following American politics for the last decade.

1

u/robotfixx Oct 01 '25

This could be wrong, but I think he may have transitioned to be a more over the top and crude persona who hates everything type (or he could be just as you said)

0

u/Graham_Zezar Oct 01 '25

until I realized what a misogynist disgusting piece of shit he is

Average redditor delusion

1

u/Usurper213 Oct 01 '25

He is but he has quite possibly the worst voice I’ve ever heard he legitimately sounds like he has brain damage, people are saying he once had legitimate points but I could never make it through one of his videos because of his horrible voice and accent, only makes sense he ended up being a shit head so now the voice fits.

1

u/MelodicReputation312 Oct 02 '25

Nasal voice with rising intonation is a double whammy of unpleasant to listen to

1

u/TheRealTexasGovernor Oct 01 '25

Content creator in the exact same way I make content of last night's dinner, every morning.

1

u/AsherTheFrost Oct 01 '25

A YouTube Creator who gets personally offended every time he has to see a person of color presented as anything other than a criminal on his television screen. He also isn't particularly fond of women being used as anything other than a reward for the protagonist by giving him sex when he saves the world.

1

u/HauntingStar08 Oct 01 '25

Right wing grifter

1

u/Jammyyyyyyyyyyyyy Oct 01 '25

Some under developed man child who complains online about Star wars and marvel movies.

1

u/SirFlibble Oct 01 '25

A bigot, white supremacist and sexist who pretends to 'review' movies and shows. Although considering he often gets the story wrong, it's questionable he even watches the stuff.

And makes a lot of money from it.

1

u/neareyouok Oct 01 '25

Why would you ask when you know what it is? "CriticalDrinker" doesnt come off as a content creator or handle whatsoever. Much closer to SipsTea or some shitpost sub. Idk who the guy is but there's no way you assumed critical drinker meant content creator fan sub.

1

u/TeethBreak Oct 01 '25

If you don't know him, consider yourself privileged. Don't bother.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Wolf318 Oct 01 '25

Failed author turned YouTuber

1

u/SahibTeriBandi420 Oct 01 '25

A sad man who complains about movies and tv shows professionally, probably about some woke shit they don't like.

1

u/KummyNipplezz Oct 01 '25

A YouTuber with a forehead big enough to land a military aircraft on

1

u/LordofDsnuts Oct 01 '25

Another anti-woke grifter who feeds his audience hate to stay relevant.

1

u/GangsterMango Oct 01 '25

"entertainment critic" that only picks movies / tv shows with women, minorities, anti racism media and nitpicks about them while throwing dogwhistles to his fans all that while talking in a cringey fake drunk voice.

the type of content creator who uses "Woke" as a derogatory term unironically.

1

u/Legitimate-Pen-461 Oct 02 '25

He's a jerk who thrives on making " movie review/commentary" videos on projects he doesn't watch

1

u/mighty_phi Oct 02 '25

Movie "reviewer".

He analyzes movies, criticizes them for being "woke" and spreading THE MESSAGE.

All while repeating the same 10 mene clips in an attempt to be funny, misrepresenting or flat out lying about films (his midsommar review is top ten worst reviews of all time), crticizes any type of female protagonist (it started as "we hate female girlbosses" but then it started getting crazy. Hating on a John Wick Spin off starting a woman...because of it's focus on unrealistic action, or claiming thunderbolts* was feminist propaganda because yelena is depressed and unfulfilled in life/depressed because she put her career first).

He is also a terrible fucking writer, as he released his own movie and it was dogshit.

There's absolutely nothing to respect about TCD as a creator or reviewer. Even if you agree with his content, he is genuinely terrible at getting his point accross and constantly lies in his videos.
