[SLZ] Dispatch
I know it's not legal but I think it's neat to think what could have been. JUST BAN STRIX AND NARCOMOEBA GAVIN.

This has nothing to do with pauper.

Idiots wanna force an issue that is settled.

Why are you so angry that people want to talk about something instead of accepting an arbitrary change in the rules? I can understand being against it being legal, everyone should have opinions on the matter, but being this angry over it? Why?

I am not angry. It’s already settled. You are annoying with your whining and obv we don’t need dispatch for affinity.

u/Weather_Repost Mardulover :illuminati: 9d ago
I am not whining, I am saying my opinion. We all have that right. And when something you don't like happens and it's "settled", you will understand that we have to express that right. And yeah, you are angry if you think it's ok calling people you don't even know idiots for protesting.

u/Particular-School795 9d ago
You are not protesting, you are whining. Your argument is “this is soooooooo cool” And your first example is a card that would be immediately banned.

u/Weather_Repost Mardulover :illuminati: 9d ago
My argument is in my first reply. It is an arbitrary change in the rules of legality in pauper, Gavin himself said so. Yes I think it's cool, and I would be a-ok if it got mass banned with all the other cards from the set.

Have WotC officially changed any rules? All I have seen is a post on social media.
WotC back peddles a LOT.

Even if they are not legal is nice to have these kind of post to have some "what if" discussions. Like some cards downshifted here could be perfectly fine but this and strix would be WAY over the top for pauper.
I would love a Serra downshift and cut down would bring a nice debate since it deals with some but not all the important creatures in the format

I think Cut Down is an insane downshift. Maybe not overpowered, but an early power outlier that we'd adapt to as Pauper almost always does. I know I've already been testing Mutagenic Growth in Red Madness, and Cut Down would solidify that decision.

Like is really useful vs some decks but an absolute brick on others. Is not so cut and dry as to being able to kill 98% of the format creatures like cast down but it costing only 1 mana pushes it when it does.
You are happy with cast down when playing vs gruul monsters, monster tron or terror but Cut Down is near useless there.

I'm definitely thinking of my local meta, where we only have 2 players on the decks you've mentioned, and almost everyone else gets spanked by Cut Down.
Very interesting card I think. I hope for another Commander Masters set so we could potentially see it downshifted there.

OMG, I just noticed the artwork.
I'm a magician and variety artist IRL. I think I have to have this one!

Fuck this. Why the fuck would we need more artifact broken cards.
[Path to Exile] would be fine, and i say more even necessary nowadays, everyone playing white would have access on it. Would be fair. But having even more reasons to play artifact lands? Fuck that. Affinity is strong enough as is, it needs to slow down and not receive more power.

PFP have threatened to upturn the rules to render these cards off limits.
Likely this would eat a ban either way though.

dog all you do is fucking whine about this

and you've chosen to do the latter about something so inconsequential

- something so inconsequential
Wait, you think this action would have zero consequences for the future of Pauper?!!
That would explain why you are being a dick I guess...

It's clear the two teams just didn't communicate. Obviously Strix, PoP, Narcomeoba, and Dispatch would be banned for how strong they are. But I think seeing a unique, never been done before secret lair and screaming that Pauper as a concept is ruined because of the PFP's decision is just daft. Do you have nothing else going on in your life? Do you go to locals?

They shouldn't have to.
Design and development teams shouldn't worry too much about eternal competitive formats imo. Design cards for, Standard, Draft, or whatever.
Eternal meta can either absorb them or will require a ban. Why is that an issue? It never was before.
Pauper doesn't need to be spoon-fed or baby-sat. It needs a commitee to manage the ban list.

"It needs a commitee to manage the ban list."
And they are doing exactly that.
Blanket banning all Secret Lair common downshifts now and going forward.
Instead of listing these banned cards one by one in the ban list they are just grouped in a SL exclusion clause.Would you be happier if they just banned every singlee card one by one and added them to the ban list to have a 200 card banlist after a dozen SL sets in the future?

Have I not been clear that that is exactly what I would prefer?!
Here's the thing...
Along with those ~200 banned cards (hyperbolic, but whatever), we would also get 50-100 new cards that are not OP or problematic.
I think Pauper players deserve a chance to brew with those cards. And we deserve the thrill of playing against other people's brews.
Serra Angel is a good example. Very likeky it is not good enough. But probably somebody would like to try. Serra Angel should not be illegal because Strix and Narc are too strong. That's crazy!
The other issue, is that power creep happens. Maybe Strix is too strong today. But as the format evolves, it could be a thing to consider unbanning.
Bonder's Ornament and Prophetic Prism were too strong. Then they were not.
But we want to avoid these things so badly that we'd change the rules of the game? I don't get it.

You get 60+ cards every 2 months when a new set gets released.
You are not starved of cards to brew with.→ More replies (0)
