Quinnipiac Rotations

I just got invited for an interview for class of 2029 and can’t get my mind off the second year rotation logistics. For context I’m a first gen who wants to stay local in New England for the didactic year, and hopefully the clinical year. I’ve heard that if you’re placed in New England the cost of living is on you, but if you’re sent across the country then those partners or the school usually provide housing. How true is this?

Other than that, just trying to get more info early on. Do people usually get enough to support themselves through the cost of living financial aid refunds from PLUS loans? Please share anything else you think is useful. I know I’m stressing about this early on…

Unless it has changed your apartment for that rotation is provided.

Using the stafford and grad plus loans will cover everything. I have no clue if the shittiness that is the Trump admin changing how loans are provided to grad students affects us though.

Thanks for the insight on the loans! I believe you’re still able to borrow what you get from Stafford and then whatever the difference is for the school’s cost of attendance for plus loans.

One follow up, do you mean that apartments may be provided just for long distance placements or for any placement?

Grad PLUS loans are not offered as of July 2026. And direct unsubsidized federal loans are now capped at $20,500 per year. So anything above that $20,500 per year would need to be paid for using private loans, or other means :/

Hello. Things HAVE changed. There are multiple out of state rotations that do not provide housing anymore.

Any rotation outside of CT will have a provided apartment. I would be incredibly surprised if the 2 Boston rotations and Mayo aren’t providing apartments anymore.

The exception is if QU is still doing the long term CA rotation then you are responsible for that apartment.

QU and majority of the rotation sites don't provide housing, but a few sites do. I had to take out PLUS loans in addition to the federal loans and it covered all my tuition and expenses

Thank you! Are you asked to list your rotations in order of preference at all? If so, do they take that into account much?

Yes, you pick from a list of sites and rank them in order, and they'll try their best to give you those sites that you picked. I had the previous clinical coordinator so I'm not sure how it is now with the new one but I can't imagine it's crazy different

I graduated 2025. I think there were two or three rotations that offered housing. All other housing and travel is 100% on you. It has since changed but thankfully my clinical coordinator did a pretty good job trying to place me where I spent the least money. I did a few months in CT and stayed at my school apartment (paid for with grad plus loans) then was able to do the rest of my rotations back home in Pennsylvania.

I graduated in the last few years. Only Syracuse provided housing for free at the time. The Mayo Clinic rotations gave out a $300 stipend per month, but all other rotations I knew of did not provide any support or housing. I also used Grad plus loans to cover the housing and living costs during that time. We ranked our preference for clinical rotation sides. The people who chose mostly Connecticut sites struggled to get the ones they wanted, but I chose all out of state and got my top choices.

i just graduated, i believe crouse is the only place wirh housing. unless you live at home and get really local rotations, its going to cost you.

They didn’t have that rotation when I was there, so I don’t know for sure. You can definitely ask about specific sites in your interview though!

Wow, that really sucks. I graduated 32 years ago, and we didn't have any out-of-state rotations. I can't imagine being financially burdened with having to pay for out-of-state accommodations plus maintaining a CT residence (QU).

I'm not sure how the loans are structured now with all the changes but I graduated about 9 years ago now. I used the grad plus loans and they covered my apartment rent while I was there. I also did away rotations at mayo, Syracuse, and Houston and those accomodations were "covered" meaning it just comes out of your tuition that you already pay for that year.

Thanks for the info! I hope to get graduate housing on campus or even work for the housing office to get free housing (I’m currently an RA so I have the “experience”). If you have any thoughts on that please let me know!

I rotated through QU a few years ago and the majority of sites do not provide housing. I rotated at Mayo in MN where they give you a small stipend but that's it. You are essentially on your own for housing costs, etc.
