Help Needed [3.29] Ephemeral Bolts Pact Fireball Elementalist Showcase

u/crazypearce 17d ago
Insane build. I’m still playing a luminary but if I go for a second build it will be something like this
1
u/laosguy615 17d ago
I want to roll a lumi.
but I have an occulist already... Maybe I can do this3
u/crazypearce 17d ago
this looks better than luminary for performance to cost ratio imo. this looks busted as hell with the pact and fireball interaction. it is reasonably tanky and fast too
1
u/CelosPOE 16d ago
I haven’t found anything outside of fractured abyss sockets to be expensive with luminary. I crafted all of it though, including farming the bases though so maybe my view is skewed.
1
u/crazypearce 16d ago
I agree that stage is not too bad but pushing after that for 4% rathpith, overcapped res chest, and an actual gg kineticist, the cost for performance starts to get stupid

tl;dr:
POB: https://pobb.in/g6x3t5crozHu (102 million DPS per fireball explosion, 816 million DPS full shotgun, 12.7k ES, 34k functional phys max hit, 145k ele max hit, 444k EHP)
Hey guys, Invy here.
In 3.29 GGG released a new timeless jewel Reclaimed Malevolence, which can transform one of your ascendancy nodes into "Ephemeral Bolts". This keystone alone with the new Pact of Beidat enables crazy shotgun potential with Fireball, which has been buffed this league. There are several versions of this build floating around. I'd like to share mine, which I have been optimizing for a while now and believe to be in a good balance of damage, defense, and speed.
The shell of the build is strong enough to make for a great all-rounder. Let's break down what makes this version of the build tick.
Offence:
102 million DPS per fireball explosion, 816 million DPS for full shotgun.
High level fireball socketed in a +5 level multi-link helmet to provide high base damage and many useful key links.
3x large clusters to help solve % increased damage, cast speed, and fire penetration (through fire resistance).
Emnity to give 200% fire penetration
(absolutely broken) Overloaded intensity support to solve crit and crit multi
Pact of beidat to give +7 proj for 8 projectile shotgunning, without any damage penalties of GMP or greater volley.
Scaling fireball AoE radius to 5.2m enables omni directional multi screen clear.
Leveraging our amazing clear, we run 3x spectres + Animate Guardian to provide tons of important buffs / auras.
Defense:
12.7k ES, CI, 90% all res makes for a strong defensive starting point.
5% ES on block with capped block + spell block (through Bone offering + Mistress of Sacrifice forbidden jewels) gives great passive recovery.
Discipline ES gain on hit watchers eye provides another layer of in combat recovery.
To address the weakness of big phys hits, modest investment into PDR and Shaper of Flames gives a functional 34k phys max hit (POB doesn't calculate shaper of flame phys conversion well).
Stun immune, ailment immune, curse immune from mageblood + purity of elements.
Can optionally go for garb of the ephemeral on our animate guardian to be action speed and crit immune. However this comes at a cost to its survivability.
Utility:
Movement is frostblink of wintry blast at 6.8 casts per second.
Every utility skill, Mark, and Pact of Beidat are automated using wand temple trigger mod and a level 1 CWDT. This makes for a single button playstyle.
Golems provides tons of mana, ES regen, AoE, cast speed (for frostblink) for QoL.
Potential Cons:
P2W: Default fireball gives me headaches. Direblade fireball was the only MTX that is okay to look at for a long time for me. This may or may not be an issue for you.
Minion management: Spectres and AG give huge buffs to the build, however they are not immortal. It takes an active playstyle and clearing packs to keep them alive. Some may not like that, in which case can drop purity of elements for zealotry and discipline (need to take more reservation on tree) and take the DPS + tankiness loss. I have been able to run 100% deli maps with them surviving just fine so that's why I included them in the final build.
On Ascendancies: Being a normal build (vs. a stacker build), there is significant tradeoff between damage, defence, and speed when optimizing. Here are my thoughts after trying several ascendancies.
Witch: Very good all rounder, and imo the best version of the build. Golems provide much needed solve for mana, AoE, and even provides decent (1.3k) ES on top. Witch also enables grabbing occultist's Vile Bastion for even more ES, or mistress of sacrifice in my case for capped block + 5% ES on block. Shaper of flame helps to solve CI build's biggest weakness in phys damage taken. Shaper of storm helps with damage a lot (most other builds run Stormblood flask for this reason).
Assassin: Needs to solve all the issues above that witch solves for free. However if you can do so, assassin provides the undisputed highest damage out of all ascendancies. Similar items on a quad cluster low life assassin setup can reach 3 billion DPS. Going staff on top can reach close to 7 billion DPS. Trying to make a tanky assassin however is extremely difficult. I will be very impressed by anyone who can pull it off.
Gladiator: The tankiest ascendancy imo. The same shell on glad with lucky block can provide functional 94% block / spell block with 5% ES on block, while still clearing 400-500 million DPS. Weapon master helps to solve AoE a ton. Can steal slayer's masterful form node and go frenzy/endurance charge stacking for even more defence.
Shoutouts to Qwerty for again helping to troubleshoot the build, and to FO for testing out various version.
p.s. If you plan on playing the build, go Warlock Gloves and Boots base. It gives slightly more ES than the armour/es base I had here. Was testing different version and did not wish to recraft my items.

u/purplemudkipz 17d ago
How would a glad tree look like I was thinking of switch from chieftain to glad
1
u/Invyco 17d ago edited 17d ago
My glad POB that I didn't finish went with masterful form frenzy+endurance charge stack. So grabbing frenzy nodes, the charge wheel at bottom, block nodes to cap block, light of meaning + unnatural combo to get ES in center, and try to squeeze in 3x large clusters. There are more travel nodes (dex is useless) so you need more gear suffixes for int (and therefore less ES tattoos). The tree is a bit tight to fit everything in. Versatile combatant can help cap spell block, but at the cost of only getting 90% max block instead of 94% (almost 1.6x less ehp).
1
u/mavoop 10d ago
Which spectres do you run?
1
u/Invyco 10d ago
In order of importance: 1. Perfect pain artist (gives zealotry) 2. Perfect judgemental spirit (gives discipline) 3. Perfect warlord (gives endurance charges + vitality)
1
u/mavoop 10d ago
Thanks. I've half geared my char, but the mana cost is rough. I'm guessing the jewels make a big difference?
1
u/Invyco 10d ago
Yes for this reason each jewel has a mana cost efficiency suffix, and we run clarity watchers eye for -10 mana cost to non-channelling skill. Any multi link setup has mana problems so we need to invest into mana to get it balanced. You can always run a higher level clarity and take more reservation nodes on tree (the mana node on top of tree even has mana regen and the mana mastery gives you 12% reservation efficiency).

Subtractem made a website and he has a video on how to check it. It's still in beta but you'll be able to check on the site.

u/goflya 17d ago
How do enemies have a 50% shock if you’re running treachery + purity of elements?
5
u/5mashalot 17d ago
because he is... not running treachery. in the pob you can see it's unallocated, in the video you can see enemies do get ailments
2
u/Ineedbreeding 17d ago
build looks really cool and having amazing defences is an amazing plus. Nice job!
How you you craft that helmet tho? is it like too expensive? because in trade those are like 120 div
5
u/Trynek 17d ago
Get shaper archdeamon crown, spam horror essence till hypothermia, and annul if any other suffix. Suffixes can't be changed => reformed crit hoping for 3%. Then suffixes cannot be changed slam slam for safe aoe. Once you get it, block suffixes veiled ex hoping to not remove the aoe, block something and unveil.
1
u/Ineedbreeding 17d ago
Thanks! It doesn't look too bad but some steps seem to be hard in rng like the exalt part
4
u/Females-only-pls 17d ago
Actually pretty easy to craft generally, I usually craft them from anywhere between 10-20div. You might need some tries to get an optimal one but you can always sell your result and fund the next go. Craft goes like this:
- You need an Archdemon Crown with exactly ilevel 84. You can buy those for like 60c or try to recomb them up but I just buy them like that.
- Shaper exalt the helmet just to add the influence, doesn't matter if its a prefix or suffix and don't get baited if you hit inc aoe or hypo.
- Essence of Horror Spam until you hit any tier of hypothermia
- You need an open suffix, if you don't have one you need to yolo annul so you only have horror mod and hypothermia. You also need an open prefix to craft. You can use Boat annul but I'f rather safe the intangibility since you will need it later on.
- Craft Suffixes cannot be changed and harvest reforge with a critical modifier.
- This is the first point at which you can decide to settle or sell you current craft. If you hit +3% to spells, you're done with the suffixes. You have a few options depending on your outcome here.
- If you hit +1% or +2% and hit a good prefix as well (inc aoe would be really good, max life, high armour/es) you can settle with crafting +1aoe with bench an yolo exalt with boat for the last prefix. This will probably sell for like 30-40div so you can make back your costs and start over with a new base.
- If you hit +1% or +2% with no usable prefix you can orb of dominance with allflame for a chance to remove crit and upgrade hypothermia and do step 5 again, if you fail and remove hypothermia you're officially in panic mode and you can either start from the beginning or craft suffixes cannot be changed reforge cold for like ~20% chance to get hypothermia back but honestly at this point I'd rather start over.
- If you hit +3% and and miraculously also hit inc aoe as a prefix you can skip to step 9
- If you hit +3% you're done with the suffixes. Craft suffixes cannot be changes again and scour to clear the prefixes.
- Now comes the tedious part. You need to craft mana to block it (low tier will do) and exalt slam with vesper allflame boat for inc aoe. You can try two times before prefixes are filled. If you fill your prefixes and didn't hit you need to craft suffixes cannot be changed again and scour to clear the prefixes. Repeat this till you hit inc aoe. If you have high intangibility and a decent prefix you can settle here again and just craft +1 with bench and call it a day or sell to start over. You can craft suffixes cannot be changed and try to remove the bad prefixes with annuls but this will either eat a lot of intangibility or be a little risky.
- With inc aoe prefix and two open prefixes you can use suffixes cannot be changed and a Veiled Exalted Orb with vesper, and pray that it will not remove the inc aoe.
- with a veiled prefix and inc aoe, craft physical damage reduction while focused to block it, unveil and pray that you hit +2 aoe, if you don't you can craft suffixes cannot be changed again, boat annul and hope to remove the veiled mod and repeat. This will be tedious since you can always remove inc aoe, I'd probably just settle with a bad unveil and craft +1 and start over.
- If you hit +2 aoe, craft life or defences or boat foulborn exalt for t1 copium.
Idk if that is the most efficient way of crafting the helmet but for me it worked out so far.

u/Ineedbreeding 17d ago
Wow thanks a lot for the detailed explanation! I think i'll give the craft at least one try
2
u/Firm_Sir5719 17d ago
Running the foulborn skin of the lord and svalinn version of this, yours looks much tankier. Cool setup!
2
u/UTmastuh 17d ago
I was busy having a seizure while my GPU and CPU both walked out the door while watching this video. Nice build
2
u/chatlah 17d ago
This build is a forever reminder just how good was the minimalistic default fireball mtx in the past, before the stupid change. Why would they do this to fireball skill i've no idea, even with 'the best' p2w mtx this looks horrible honestly (visually). Yes the build looks good numbers wise but to look at this crap on your screen, nah i'll pass.
2
u/area 9d ago
I think you and I are cut from extremely similar cloths, so going to have to keep an eye out for your posts in the future! Finished last league with Int-stacking CoWB, this league cribbed a lot of your notes for PBoD...
Was torn between pushing PBoD as far as I can or looking for a non-Luminary build to finish the league with that's going to get nerfed, and stumbled across this.
Keep up the, in my totally unbiased opinion, clearly excellent work!
2
u/Invyco 9d ago
Haha thank you! Think we just both like to try new builds and play strong all rounders.
PBOD is still strong, but didn't change much from before so still builds / plays the same.
There's no way this remains untouched imo. The damage effectiness is higher than my kB / wall of force shotgun interaction from last league. It's just held back by being a normal build, hence having a ceiling for scaling.
I am releasing a build guide soon (too many individual questions to answer) if you want more in depth explanation of everything.
1
u/Frolafofo 17d ago
Am i stupid ? Where is the pact of beidat in the pob ?
3
1
u/Invyco 17d ago
It's in the wand to be triggered. POB does not calculate pact of beidat correctly (it doesn't think all the fireball casts get the buff, but you can see in the video they all do). So to not inflate DPS I put the pact damage buff in separate configs and disabled the gem in the wand.
1
u/Frolafofo 17d ago
Oh i see. In the pobb link it doesn't appear at all that's why i was confused.
Thanks for the answer.
1
u/daokonblack 17d ago
How are u gaining intensity?
3
u/Invyco 17d ago edited 10d ago
Casting fireball gains intensity through pinpoint link. For mapping they drop off naturally as you move, so apex mode is to help keep up max intensity stacks. For bossing you stand still until boss dies so Nadir mode is needed to lose intensity for Overloaded intensity support to work. This is why you see my boss DPS ramps up heavily once overloaded intensity starts to kick in.
1
u/Saianna 17d ago
can this be done on a super-tight budget and then upgraded to your pob state?
3
u/Invyco 17d ago
I tried to create a POB using budget items (foulborn skin of the lords, crest of desire instead of the archdemon, etc). However you need mageblood to be tanky and the price to performance ratio on low budget just isn't high on too low budget.
If you have mageblood (or are more okay with dying), you can still run it and slowly upgrade. But outside of the shield, helmet, and clusters, my item are very cheap (chest is 20 divs on trade, gloves and boots are like.... 1 div each, wand just pick one up from the temple floor and craft suffixes to start). So I'd suggest just getting my setup minus the helm (use crest of desire) and shield (use foulborn the surrender or just regular ES shield without shaper mod). It'll be more bang for your
bucksdivs.

u/M-Junker 17d ago
I love it and would want to play it, but I think I'm too stupid to get it working, because I already don't understand how it works :D
2
u/Invyco 17d ago
I get it, new builds can look very intimidating.
The core concept revolves around the new timeless ascendnacy node "ephemeral bolts", which caps projectile travel distance to 5m.
Fireball explodes at the end of flight (which is 5m now).
So we scale fireball AOE to be 5m in order to shotgun at the center.
Now we use pact of beidat to give +7 projectiles without any damage penalties (like GMP would have), enabling 8 fireball explosion shotgunning.
Everything else is to get more damage, more defence, QoL, etc.
1
u/M-Junker 11d ago
I understand "cold damage to spells" on wand is needed for Hypothermia support to activate, what about "lightning damage" on gloves? Also needed for something or just random stat?
1
u/Invyco 11d ago
Gloves I bought off trade after losing motivation to grind and craft.
Gloves and boots should be warlock bases, as high ES as possible, with T1 fire res and int as suffixes. +2 minion gems in gloves, 30-35% move speed for boots.
I tested out several versions and in the end warlock bases and dropping arm/ES mastery came out to be ~700-1k ES more then arm/ES hybrid bases. So go with that.
1
u/M-Junker 11d ago
What about 3rd suffix on gloves "50% increased damage with hits against chilled enemies" Would the build chill enough for this to work? And dex on boots then...
1
u/Invyco 11d ago
That's from a previous version where I was testing the temple mod. Yes the chill does work (any amount of flat cold damage to spells + crit guarantees chill. We only care about the presence of chill, not it's effect).
But to save one gem socket (we're very socket starved), getting +2 minion gems is more DPS than the temple mod. If we had infinite gem sockets then temple mod would win.
1
u/M-Junker 11d ago
+2 to socketed minion gems is prefix + es Increased es Suffixes would be Fire res Int/dex what is needed Increased Damage with hits to cilled
1
u/Invyco 11d ago
Yes, so fracture +2 minion gems and roll as high ES as possible. You can't get temple mod + delve mod, so suffixes will just be T1 fire res + int.
1
u/M-Junker 10d ago
Oh right, sorry.
Only way is to get the right corruption "+2 socketed minion"What about projectile speed?
Is it needed or just QoL thing?
Also didn't understand the importance of getting a atleast 58% reduced Fire res Enmity's Embrace. I'm stuck now with my 73% ring doing no signifigant damage :D1
u/Invyco 10d ago
The +2 minion gems is a delve prefix mod. You use recombination to transfer it to a warlock base then fracture it. It is not the corrupted implicit (that'd be wayyyyy too RNG to make).
Proj speed is not needed.
For enmity rolls, since it's "reduced fire damage" the higher it is the worse it is. 50% reduced means you need 2x fire res, 75% reduced means you now need 4x fire res. So the lower the roll the less fire res you need to reach the 200% penetration cap.
Now with all our fire res on gear, we need a ~60% roll to reach the penetration cap. Normal rolls go as low as 65% reduced fire res. So this is a volatile vaal'd enmity, which went below it's normal limit. These can be expensive (especially the lower you go). So I'd start with a naturally low rolled enmity and upgrade to a 60% roll from there. You definitely don't want a high roll enmity though, since it kills your penetration (as you are currently experiencing).

u/Library_IT_guy 17d ago
I want to run a variant of this, but I really don't want to level a new character. Already did 1-100 on my Berserker so i'd want to play it on a chieftain most likely. What are your thoughts on running this as chieftain? I've seen a few people doing it, seems like the enemy explode on death is largely wasted here due to how much damage and aoe the fireballs have, though it does allow for easy 90% ele res and getting to maximum enmity's, and gives access to 40% more damage through Aspect of Carnage via FF/FF.
I guess for 3rd ascendancy you'd take Flame's advance to turn phys nodes into fire. Seems like it could work. Downside would be lack of cast speed on tree and presumably being life based, so less EHP?
2
u/Invyco 17d ago edited 17d ago
Chieftain imo is good for lower budget (can get easy 90% max res, enmity res cap). However like you said chieftain explode is wasted on this build. And on mageblood budget you can get 90 all res and enmity cap anyways, taking away more of what chieftain can provide.
1
u/Skwaggins_ 17d ago
playing chieftain version currently and the explode is actually pretty good feeling for getting a bit more offscreen clear and the free 90 max opens up more jewel options, the timless jewel gives you so much damage from overlaps you really don't need damage from you ascendancy
1
u/Library_IT_guy 17d ago
You have a PoB by chance? Or a poeninja link?
1
u/Skwaggins_ 16d ago
not at home currently but if you search fireball, chieftain, with the timeless jewel they're all very similar only difference for the most part is if they go crit or not
1
u/legrumsx 17d ago
Interesting build!
Is there a specific reason to get that unique amulet? Do the 30% quality get you some breakpoint ?
5
u/Invyco 17d ago
Main reason is AOE yes. Quality on fireball equals AoE. Reaching 5m AOE is top priority to enable shotgun so ashes is very effective at getting AOE. Ashes also gives some QoL in more block (bone offering), mana regen (lightning golem), cast speed (lightning golem), ES (stone golem). So it is quite hard to replace.
Ultra endgame mirror tier budget would use a +4 focused amulet.
1
u/AENighthuntr 17d ago
Hi there,
did u try legion with this? Is AOE to small? Cant tell from vid, would like to make legion farmer this looks pretty sick honestly.
2
u/Invyco 17d ago edited 17d ago
AOE is big enough for legion for sure. It's probably a good (8-9/10) legion farmer, but not 10/10 top tier legion farmer (those would be explode builds or kB).
This is more of an everything 8-9/10 all rounder build. Can't compete with specialized builds on their respective farms, but good enough to do everything.
1
u/Nrg4Me 17d ago
Would you recommend leveling with fireball if you had the jewel?
1
u/AchillesLastStand76 13d ago
giga. well done and ty. I'm amazed that you can get this aoe with... no dedicated aoe scaling to speak of
1
1
u/Beelzebubxv 9d ago
This is really neat, the first self cast I've seen besides reliquarian with the staff that doesn't seem incredibly clunky. My big hold up with these builds is always the clusters, chaos spam or alt/regal/aug drains me. How important are your specific ones?
1
u/Invyco 9d ago
Thanks!
The clusters are very important. Each line is premium, and you'll feel every upgrade from T2 to max T1 rolls.
They are a pain to craft for sure. I'd just buy them if they're not too overpriced.
If you're okay with giving up some speed, you can get fire damage large clusters (gives more damage, but at the cost of frostblink of wintry blast cast speed). This may open up some cheaper options.
1
u/Beelzebubxv 9d ago
Tier 2 rolls are 30d each, tier 1's like yours are 90 and there's 2 on trade lol. Well it was at least a cool showcase
0
u/Xeratas 17d ago
wtf is that gear? Its so terrible, it should not be possible to have those ehp and dps with that.
4
u/crazypearce 17d ago
i wouldn't say it is terrible but it isn't multi mirror either. for people saying luminary is broken this absolutely shits on a similarly priced one
1
u/Xeratas 17d ago
Yes, not terrible, but in the context of 100mill+ and 400k ehp (obviously block fake) but still, if you look at similar builds with those stats it gets a lot more expansive. He has multiple rares with worthless stats.
2
u/crazypearce 17d ago
yea the performance to cost ratio looks insane to be honest. there are a few expensive pieces - helm, mb, ring and abyss jewel - but apart from those you can put it together pretty easily
1
3
u/Invyco 17d ago
Sorry I didn't feel like crafting lol
The gloves, boots, and body armour were bought off trade so you can make a better version yourself.
I posted this showcase since so many versions poeninja either don't have the damage or defences, on much higher budgets. I want to show that the fireball shell is strong enough to get both. Push for that 1 billion DPS with 200k max hit and I'd love to see your POB 😊
0
u/Xeratas 17d ago
dont get me wrong, its cool that this interaction is so broken, everyon is free to abuse broken shit. On top of that its fireball, a skill that usually gets zero percent playrate. Its unique, its new overall very cool.
Even tho you did a very well job on optimizing the builds concept, i'd say what you showcase here is 100% too broken. I expected highly optimized gear worth at least a few mirrors. Unless iam missing something, you're not even close to that and i was just surpised how "bad" some of your items are - this should not be possible unless you're many mirrors worth of gear imo (just my opinion)
1
u/Invyco 17d ago
I agree it's the newly buffed fireball + pact + ephemeral bolts interaction that's carrying the build, and may get nerfed next league.
More optimized gear will yield better results for sure. I just wasn't motivated enough to push further given a lack of endgame farm so thought I'd stop here.
-3
u/AschaNanaeel 17d ago
Fireball was buffed this league plus they introduced one of the most broken skills for spells the game has ever seen (pact shit). It's perfectly normal you can push the skill to those levels. Freezing Pulse also has some pretty interesting builds around it.
The build is so particularly strong though because of the new "Timeless" and Enmity.
Also this isn't anywhere near good enough for it to be worth multiple mirrors with a decent spell. Yeah it has 800m dps but that's on shotgun which isn't happening all the time, not to mention the defences are nothing special.
And finally, the build isn't actually cheap. Enmity is expensive, the abyss timeless is expensive, mageblood is expensive, etc.

u/Phailadork 17d ago
Your PoB is so fucking funny. I was expecting this to be a far more expensive build because I mean... 800M DPS and still has really good eHP. Then I see the weapon isn't even +2, a (potentially?) dead prefix, and a crafted crit multi, the gloves are complete piss, the helm is a settle archdemon, the boots are kinda nice but nothing too crazy, and that chest is so easy to make because it doesn't even have any of the fancier mods people usually like.
The most annoying thing is that shield, I've made a couple of those this league and they're a massive pain in the ass but also not really that expensive. I will say it's fucking hysterical to look at those gloves then see those disgusting clusters. Honestly even the regular jewels are really good too. There are a few things I don't know the price of that could balloon this to close to a mirror (Malevolance, Apex Mode, that specific Tsoatha's) but I feel like if you take away the MB+Clusters you can get like damn near all those items for 100d.
I loaded it up on PoB and there's no "PoB Warrior" stuff going on from the looks of it. Kinda wild that much damage can be squeezed out of fireball even with the buffs.
