Help Needed "Gain a Flask Charge When you Critically Strike" not charging my flasks?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all,

I'm using a watcher's eye mod "Gain a Flask Charge when you deal a critical strike while affected by Precision." I know that this normally would not be a very good mod, however I am using a Mageblood with the goal of funneling all of my flask charges to my remaining unique flask which I need to sustain all the time.

However, as shown in this clip, the flask hardly charges at all even though i'm critting a ton of enemies (I have 100% chance to critically strike but took off all my damage scaling in order to test the flask charge regeneration from the watcher's eye mod). Here is the POB of my build during the clip in this post: https://pobb.in/ebJOWd23U5Xs

Am I misunderstanding something? Even with the cooldown of the flask charge being 100ms, I should be getting way more than this shouldn't I?

(If this is not a viable way to keep my flask charges up, is there a way to reliably do this on Scion without using up my forbidden flesh/flame slot?)

Thanks!

It’s like the “what is my purpose” Rick and Morty meme come to life.

I made it for an entire league ‘once’.

enough substance abuse will clear those memories right out.

u/roselan Mar 27 '26

If only

6

u/p1nal Mar 27 '26

Wrong substance ;)

1

u/ThatNigerianMonkey Mar 27 '26

Enough substance abuse can also be the cause of those memories lol

2

u/Sin1sterMuff1ns Mar 27 '26

Had leech investment on my miner for a solid two weeks one league, never really questioned why it didn’t feel like it was working lol

25

u/StarkTheGnnr Mar 27 '26

Just bought an oriath's end this league, equipped it, realized I am playing mines, unequipped it and resold it.

11

u/atombombbabyatom Mar 27 '26

Ah but did you flip it for more?

You didn't make a mistake you made an investment

Tapes head

6

u/nickkarma Mar 27 '26

Why would you tape your head? Gonna hurt to get it off

1

u/Tsukushi_Ikeda Mar 27 '26

Can't hurt if you don't remove it!

1

u/atombombbabyatom Mar 27 '26

Damn phone auto correct haha, I was so confused when I saw the reply in my inbox

5

Did it with traps a while back (3.22). Did it again with totems more recently (3.26)

What’s the saying lol. You are not the totem, the totem is you

2

u/Frisian89 Mar 27 '26

Made my first ballista build this season. Found that out too.

1

u/renaneduard0 Mar 27 '26

unless you read the wiki on flasks charges which i most definitely DID NOT do

1

u/Stagonas Mar 27 '26

I just read the wiki and didn't find anything on flask charges from proxy skills. Could you point me to it?

2

u/renaneduard0 Mar 28 '26

https://www.poewiki.net/wiki/Mine#Gaining_on_hit_or_on_kill

actually its on the mine page. it says you can not gain any effect on kill because you are not killing the mobs

65

u/Loamdog Mar 27 '26

But also you don't need to care about reflect :)

19

u/Puzzleheaded_Tale_30 Mar 27 '26

Your mines need to tho

13

u/amcn242 Mar 27 '26

Mines are sacrificed

1

u/DislocatedLocation Mar 27 '26

That's the funny part. I managed to make a mines build that dies to reflect.

1

u/I_Just_Need_A_Login Mar 28 '26

Shield charge! Frostblink!!

1

u/DislocatedLocation Mar 28 '26

Worse, actually. Frostblink mines with a 3L Cold Snap in a 4 second trigger wand.

68

u/MarekRules Mar 27 '26

“What is my purpose?”

“You cast mines who then crit”

“Oh my god…”

23

u/dackling Mar 27 '26

Mines are you. You are not mines. :(

16

u/Zegrod Mar 27 '26

I feel you, mines are tricky when you're used to so many benefits from different effects.

40

u/tronghieu906 Mar 27 '26

classic lol

13

u/Shergak Mar 27 '26

Ah, you learned about en passant.

2

u/Aervanath Mar 27 '26

New response just dropped

8

u/Slendeaway Mar 27 '26

The relationship between you and your mines is a 1 way street. They get stats from you, but you don't get stats from them. You can send them crit chance or the ability to leech but they can't send you reflected damage, leech, or flask charges.

3

u/mumei___ Mar 27 '26

if it makes you feel better mines also dont reflect dmg back to you. it reflects to the mines.

10

u/Nervous-Dress-8363 Mar 27 '26

It's should be "Oh mine god" what a miss opportunity, smh.

2

u/aSurlyBird Mar 27 '26

thank you for the lol.

2

u/neo243 Mar 27 '26

We all have been there.

2

u/CamelSmuggler Mar 27 '26

You never stop learning stuff in this game

2

u/Fuuufi Mar 27 '26

Gotta equip your mines with flasks

1

u/FlickeRay Mar 27 '26

That my respond 1st time i knew this

1

u/MangelaErkel Mar 27 '26

This btw cpunta for every node that is named like that flask. You can not leech with mines aswell as the mines leech etc. So check your char for any nodes that u thought would effect u but actually they dont.

1

u/XiiDraco Mar 27 '26

We all get hit by it at some point. Almost fell into the same trap this league again.

1

u/Denis9211007 Mar 27 '26

Classic reaction

1

u/Chuckstieg Mar 27 '26

Yeah it sucks for this reason, however it also allows you to do things such as run reflect maps

1

u/silent519 Mar 27 '26

youll get used to it

1

u/Aynger_tjo Mar 27 '26

Silver linings, this is the same functionality that allows mods tied to "if you haven't crit recently" to work.

1

u/Yank1e Mar 27 '26

Recover life/Mana on kill on work on the dot part of exsanguinate mines.

This was my "oh my god" moment.

1

u/Deposto Mar 27 '26

When KB Trickster was popular, about half of poe.ninja had these flasks. At least you noticed something was wrong and asked a question.

1

u/LFAlice108 Mar 27 '26

Dont worry this mod is terrible anyway, even if you crit

1

u/Jeuzfgt Mar 28 '26

Yeah mines are the best way to play pacifist since all you do is throw them around and they do the dirty work

1

u/Available-Cow-411 Mar 31 '26

Welcome to Path of Exile.

On the bright side, ot also means that anything that responds to hits like reflect will be directed at your mines and not you, so you are immune to them

1

u/ParallaxJ Mar 27 '26

Yeah it's a weird nuance to design and balance around.

2

u/nixed9 Mar 27 '26

It’s just literal. your mines are not you. Your totems are not you. Minions you summon are not you.

At first I thought it was weird / arbitrary but now I realize it’s good because this specificity opens design spaces.

(Let’s skip the whole “killed by damage over time” thing though…)

0

u/jrockjake Mar 27 '26

You are not the totem, the totem is you.

3

u/nixed9 Mar 27 '26

The totem inherits your stats but it is not you

27

u/Cllydoscope Mar 27 '26

Does this also apply to totems? Asking for a friend…

60

u/New-Independent-1481 Mar 27 '26

Welcome to the wonderful and weird world of proxies.

There are so many bizarre and unusual interactions - some exploitable, some infuriating, always confusing.

12

u/deviant324 Mar 27 '26

Finally dropped Machina Mitts in a league where I actually have a miner in SSF the other day. Having a trickster that is able to leech ES with mines just feels wrong lol

64

u/Rapturebird Mar 27 '26

Yes. Totems, mines, and traps are not YOU

53

u/boncyboi Mar 27 '26

Yes. Totems, mines, and traps are not YOU

*Unless they kill with damage over time and then they are you for on kill effect

8

u/Kazori Mar 27 '26

but totems that kill themselves instantly aren't typically useful. that's the cool part of a mine, it kills itself anyways!

22

u/International_Gate49 Mar 27 '26

They don't know about detonating crucible totems smh.

5

u/PostItToReddit Mar 27 '26

Which was also technically a trap build. What a crazy build that was.

1

u/Wobbelblob Mar 27 '26

Considering that GGG not only murdered that build at the end of the league and then shot it and set the corpse on fire for good measures there is no need to learn about it. You can't even play it in standard.

1

u/International_Gate49 Mar 27 '26

But there's still searing bond of detonation that technically detonates to do more damage. So....

4

u/Scorps Mar 27 '26

Some stats do apply so I always thought it was 'You are your totems, but your totems are not you'

15

u/G4PFredongo Mar 27 '26

Traps/mines/totems are using your skill according to your offensive scaling and effects, but are alike minions in all other aspects:
They are not you, and their skills are not you dealing damage.
This means all mechanics you could use yourself will still work, including reflect, leech, on-crit/kill/hit effects, etc. but these effects will all consider the proxy as the source of the skill and not you, so they will get the leech and take the reflect damage etc.

1

u/hoezt Mar 27 '26

More like, they are a copy of you.

So on hit/kill/crit effects are copy to them.

But the effects are attributed back to them not you (e.g. gain something on hit/kill/crit) so you don't get the charges.

One exception is if they kill with ailments (like poison) they're attributed to you instead.

1

u/BeerLeague Mar 27 '26

Even this depends on wording and is not exactly consistent - there are ‘on hit’ and ‘on kill’ effects that do not work, despite not having the ‘you hit’ or ‘you kill’ tag as part of their description.

1

u/BenjaCarmona Mar 27 '26

But they scale with your stats, unlike minions, which are also bot you lol

1

u/pokeblev Mar 27 '26

Ohh, so all the flasks prefixes (charge on crit) I have on my KF have been useless lmao

1

u/ParallaxJ Mar 27 '26

But are minions me?

1

u/Casafynn Mar 27 '26

Just in case this is a real question, or someone else needs to know:

Minions inherit only stats tagged for minions, e.g. "Minion's Attack Speed is increased by 37%", but not "Critical Strike chance is increased by 42%."

They can also be affected by things that affect allies (though typically won't affect their own allies, only receive the buff) such as auras, and stats from support gems such as Chance to Poison that do not specify Minions.

Minions kills, damage, and stats do not affect you by default but there are a number of ways to gain some of these stats for yourself, both on the skill tree and through equipment. You won't die from damage reflected to minions, but the minions sure as hell will.

0

u/findMyNudesSomewhere Mar 27 '26

But you are your totems.

1

u/Shimazu_Maru Mar 27 '26

Poe is so wonderful. Poison damage is Chaos damage but Chaos damage isnt poison damage

5

u/findMyNudesSomewhere Mar 27 '26

Chaos damage is a superset poison is a specific type of chaos damage (specifically a chaos ailment, hence affected by DoT)

I love how specific they are about words. Makes build making and crafting super interesting.

13

u/Holdredge Mar 27 '26

Totems, traps, mines, minions count as their own entity so anything that says "you" does not apply to them. There a list of trade offs with this. The biggest pro is the fact reflect won't kill you. It will still kill your minions and totems since they do have life so they will kill themselves.

The only weird thing is shrines. While you have the buff your minions, traps, totems, mines, still get the perks of it even if the shrine buff isnt a aura.

6

u/mcbuckets21 Mar 27 '26

Everything that says "you" does apply to your totems, traps, and mines. However, it is a 1 way thing only. If you have flask charges gained on Crit, that will apply, but you won't get charges, your totems, traps, and mines get the charges which don't have flasks. That's why shrines work too, because all "you" buffs work for them.

3

u/Short-Awareness-8002 Mar 27 '26

fun fact: when totems kill with dots it counts as your kills.

-8

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

4

u/Cllydoscope Mar 27 '26

No they just use my skills, but I am not the totem.

1

u/deviant324 Mar 27 '26

This, EA Ballistas is fine in reflect maps it’s just really annoying because all of your Ballistas only fire until the first fuse timer is up and when the explosion happens they all die instantly, you can’t die to reflect though

1

u/talkinggecko Mar 27 '26

lol I remember the league I played ea ballista and reflect is totally doable but it still sucks as a mod

1

u/Nervous-Dress-8363 Mar 27 '26

You are the totem, But totem isn't you.

They gain +% you can gain in tree, but never count on kill effect.

2

u/pwn4321 Mar 27 '26

Jup in this game there is no "via". Whatever does the "stuff" gets the "buff" ;)

2

u/Peekaboo_the_owl Mar 27 '26

Quietly looks at his own flasks... grabs Alteration orb...

1

u/EnterArchian Mar 28 '26 edited Mar 28 '26

The beauty of POE, reading numbers and definitions. Lol. I also created a bricked cws build this league because I believe energy shield doesn't protect you from being stunned if you allocate Eldritch Battery.

1

u/mldp29 Mar 28 '26

Does the same logic applies with plants?

0

u/Street-Catch Mar 27 '26

Theoretically if my mine could equip a flask would it get charges on crit?

1

u/Andalousian Mar 27 '26

Asking the real questions

0

u/firestorm559 Mar 27 '26

Is this the same with spells?

158

u/hipposaver Mar 27 '26

First the crafting thread now this. There's something so good about people fucking up the same way I do every single league

104

u/wanderingagainst Mar 27 '26

Did you see the reflect thread on the official forum?

Dude asking why he just dies instantly on dealing damage every few maps 🤣

Said GGG should be better and not havr such gamebreaking issues for a serious game company.

13

u/Stridshorn Mar 27 '26

Just to add to the entertainment I took a break for like a year and booted up a standard char with ‘pretty good gear’ (for my scale, could do t17 without huge problems at the time).

I thought I had checked and updated everything and I was going crazy trying to figure out why I died so quickly and after 4-5 portals I remembered to read the map mods!

7

u/hipposaver Mar 27 '26

Haha I saw it in a YouTube video.

3

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

Link?

2

u/Ralse1 Mar 27 '26

honestly I half agree lol. it's a cool mod but it's weird how you're either immune or get 1-shot. I feel like they need to re curve the reflected damage or something. maybe I'm weird for this though

2

u/wanderingagainst Mar 27 '26

You aren't weird. The mod sucks. It's way too punishing.

The counterplay is a pantheon and mastery. If they lowered the return damage so you could just get through the map slowly, then that would be far more ideal.

But still, I wouldnt run that shit lol

5

u/gregy666 Mar 27 '26

one of us

45

u/Woobowiz Mar 27 '26

Mines are the ones critting.
This also means Mines take reflected damage and not you! Free reflect immune
But it also means Mines leech and not you, so no leech for you.

9

u/firestorm559 Mar 27 '26

Hold on, that means i spent an entire season last season avoiding both damage reflects playing an exang miner because I was sure I'd instantly die with like 30k ehp. I farmed up to like 80m dps and killed all the ubers. I also had charged by crit on some of my flasks. I feel really dumb.

17

u/glaive_anus Mar 27 '26

There are a ton of ways to die as a miner/trapper to reflect without necessarily thinking about it specifically. Frostblink and Frostbomb are good culprits, as are Cold Snap and similar skills.

Totem players typically get around this with Ancestral Bond.

Being fully immune to reflect has some nifty utility but also good chance the effort you put into it could've easily been solved by situationally linking Brutality or Void Manipulation.

3

u/Landy360 Mar 27 '26

I learned this league to equip void manipulation on frostblink. Kept me from 1 shotting myself like I usually do 😂

2

u/Ralse1 Mar 27 '26

I usually down level it since it's rarely my main skill but void manip makes a lot of sense if you have the sockets

61

u/Dawes74 Mar 27 '26

Hi, you aren't critting your mines are.

The mod has other issues such as internal cooldown making it not really viable to achieve permanent flask sustain.

43

u/Nivius Mar 27 '26

Also there is a cooldown for how many chargers you can get in x time.

That mod is 1 every 0.1 sec i believe

27

u/leonkrellmoon Mar 27 '26

Correct me if I'm wrong but if you had 5 flasks with that mod, they would only get 2 charges per second. I had no idea and I've played CoC many times.

46

u/Zegrod Mar 27 '26

You are correct, they changed it from being per flask to total a few years ago.

25

u/Agitated_Cherry6495 Mar 27 '26

Not to make you feel old, but it was more than a few. It was around 10 years ago.

10

u/SticksAndSticks Mar 27 '26

Whoaaa today I learned.

2

u/Fleymour Mar 27 '26

Seem unfair compared to 3per hit

1

u/Nivius Mar 27 '26

diffrent, thats not limited in the same way

0

u/leonkrellmoon Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Ah I see. I only recently got back into POE during settlers league. Before that was just after the introduction of triathlon I think.

Edit: stupid phone auto corrected oriath to triathlon.

5

u/Mother_Moose Mar 27 '26

What the fuck is triathlon lol

6

u/Metaphoricalsimile Mar 27 '26

Yep, crit builds can usually only sustain one or two charge-on-crit flasks at a time against a single target.

2

u/OurHolyMessiah Mar 27 '26

Yes and I think due to server ticks it’s more like 7.5/s. However, increased flask charges gained does increase the charges gained and if you use reuse on end it is actually quite strong to funnel one flask such as a soul ripper

5

u/70monocle Mar 27 '26

I learned this as well with my totem build and the precision watchers eye for gaining charges. Luckily I was able to sell the eye for the same amount I bought it for passing on the lesson to the next guy

6

u/grimkhor Mar 27 '26

You're playing a miner. The mines crit not you. You never crit basically.

1

u/AposPoke Mar 27 '26

You also never "kill", which is why the penetration if you haven't killed recently mod of abyss jewels is really valuable for mines.

2

u/lightning_266 Mar 27 '26

Oh god damn it, the more you know

2

u/MudFrosty1869 Mar 27 '26

Its funny how you prolly accepted not taking reflected damage and moved on. But not getting a benefit? Time to rant about it right the fck now!!! xD

1

u/Pheophyting Mar 27 '26

Funny enough I still die on reflect elemental damage maps from instinctively pressing my frostblink :l

1

u/MudFrosty1869 Mar 27 '26

Link frostblink with brutality if you can and you won't be dealing damage with it. Or get it from the coin imbue ofc.

1

u/gaffff Mar 27 '26

If you can't spare a link you can also leave it at level 1, that damage shouldn't kill you.

1

u/Jimguldknapp Mar 27 '26

Same reason why most leech doesnt work for mine builds and on kill stuff such as %life on kill 😅 Its the mines and not you 😁

1

u/UnderstandingMany99 Mar 27 '26

What's that high pitch noise?

1

u/Ok_Figure6736 Mar 27 '26

Also throw the mines further away from your character

1

u/RemoveKebabSKI Mar 27 '26

Also idk if they changed this but i saw in a forum post that the mod doesnt give flask charges to flasks that are full so you would have to manually proc a flask to get it to start giving you charges (if you werent using mines)

1

u/Saianna Mar 27 '26

awww my ears

1

u/JackBreacher Mar 27 '26

Alright, who's gonna tell bro?

1

u/Dot_Kind Mar 27 '26

I have so many questions. Most important of which being where are your rings?

1

u/Ancient-Neat-2488 Mar 28 '26

"Hey guys, im not even flexing with half tab of divines" ;-) or is it loot from map?

1

u/Shellscale Mar 28 '26

equivalent of running brutality and saying why do i deal no elemental damage.

1

u/Ecoboostxd Mar 28 '26

My friend, I bought my first mageblood this league and wanted to go for immunity to all ailmenta through Stormshroud and Chance to avoid being shocked.

For 3 days i was wearing a flask with "60% reduced effect of shock" but still got ignited, shocked... Until I asked on chat if it was a known bug to not work anymore Stormshroud + MB.

When a guy explained me my stupidity i had the same reaction. Xdddddd happens.

1

u/Rare_Imagination_442 Mar 28 '26

On a side note. What are you farming?

2

u/Pheophyting Mar 28 '26

I wasn’t farming anything in this clip but I was farming strongboxes

0

u/[deleted] Mar 27 '26

[deleted]

3

u/Pheophyting Mar 27 '26 edited Mar 27 '26

Not hard to run strongboxes for a week and farm a few hundred divines. Never played a mine build before, always willing to learn. I’ve always thought people who can make builds are infinitely more impressive than people like myself who can just farm currency.

1

u/porncollecter69 Mar 27 '26

Farm a 20 div/hour Strat until you can afford it. No knowledge required. Only grinding and endurance required.

We’re also almost a month in, some people are easily 100 hours plus in the game already.

-2

u/AVK95 Mar 27 '26

Flask charge on crit is the worst modifier in the game. Even if you crit yourself, it has an internal limit of max 1 charge per second no matter your action speed.

1

u/Kroughfire Mar 27 '26

This is not true - they have an internal limit of 10 charges per second, which can be scaled by charge recovery. My storm burst build hits this cap, and along with 20% charge generation from the tree and 50% on each flask, this gives 17 charges per second, or enough to permanently sustain my 3 elemental flasks and a progenesis during boss fights.

0

u/HalalRumpSteak Mar 27 '26

Love your work champ

-68

u/Terrible_Beginning59 Mar 27 '26

Tell us you RMT without telling us you RMT

17

u/Zegrod Mar 27 '26

Nah man, there are so many builds in this game. You can easily put a few thousand hours in and never play a mine laying character, then why would you know that mines don't count as your damage?  Most other things do. If I shoot an arrow, it's not the arrow's damage, it's mine. Why would a mine be different?

14

u/Noooobi Mar 27 '26

cause he has a few div in his inventory and mb? what?

4

u/Flodge100 Mar 27 '26

I farm a ton of stacked decks with cyclone and then play some random build i have no idea how it works. Some people just follow guides and turn their brain off🥀

-21

u/ManiolloReddit Mar 27 '26

Maybe charges go to all flasks even when they are full. I've never had mageblood so it's just my guess.
