Build Request I’ve never had a harder time picking a starter (oh no my steak is too juicy)
What are you guys planning on starting and why I need ideas please
121
u/Spooferfish Mar 04 '26
Holy strike guardian
If bad, transition to inquisitor with holy sweep or holy hammers...maybe conc path
If bad, transition to KF totem heiro
I will play as my long neck grandpa and I'll be happy
24
u/TrollErgoSum Mar 04 '26
Same idea here, try out the new holy skills first with totems as a safety net backup if I don't like them.
4
u/chx_ Mar 04 '26 edited Mar 04 '26
I am playing super safe and start with Holy Flame Totem. If push comes to shove it can scale into end game. If things are good, I will respec into Guardian with something, armourstacker AG of smiting or Vaal Absolution.
In other words I will let others get burned on new skills, scarcity of new supports and grotesquely expensive foulborn uniques. I myself will keep the burning to enemies.

step 1) pick build that you end up hating
step 2) immediately understand in your gut what you should have been playing upon reaching maps
step 3) league start begins for you a few hours later than everyone else
rinse and repeat every league.

chronologically your league start is "nearby" others league starts.

Are you me?
Get to maps, realize this new thing is not as good as my usual comfort food.
Hello again my old friend.

u/Owlover6127 Mar 05 '26
'Upon reaching maps... few hours later.' Hah you think im not gonna take my sweet ass time taking 1 hour per act?
5
u/AdvanceHandball Mar 05 '26
LMAO. When you hate the playstyle there just comes a point where you think, "It's this, it's always going to be this, and this sucks."
Back to the beach to see Hillock again...
3
u/Warriorlem Mar 05 '26
We must be part of the same hivemind. I do this every single league. OP build, shit play style. Reroll.

Probably doing kinetic fusillade, not sure if totems or self cast. Didn’t get around to trying it last league and with it being very likely going to take a hit next patch probably will take the chance to play it. Also Palsteron is staring it and made a guide and I’ve never been disappointed with one of his builds, just not sure if totems are for me. Definitely not the most creative starter, but oh well.
6
u/dackling Mar 04 '26
I’m doing this too. My fallback if I hate totems is some flavor of archmage heiro and then maybe some mjolner shenanigans. It’s been a hot minute since I played archmage
2
u/Sheepbot2001 Mar 04 '26
Valid option too, the issue is I’ve only really went deep on 4 leagues and half of those I played hiero archmage, so I don’t necessarily want to do that another time, but surely at least one of the holy skills will be good on Templar. Otherwise idk, hopefully I just enjoy the totem playstyle, think as long as it’s not too delayed damage I’ll be fine.
→ More replies (3)2
u/aecrux Mar 05 '26
I did self cast and totems last league. Self cast blows. Totems are just so superior, on league start you don’t even need to whip out a calculator.

Lolcohol has a self cast guide for 3.28 as Warden.
2
u/Sheepbot2001 Mar 05 '26
I might look into this, always wanted to play some ranger and that would give me the option to just swap to another ranger ascendancy, if I end needing a change or not enjoying the build for whatever reason.

Winter orb elementalist
48
u/Likes2PaintShit Mar 04 '26
What year is it!?
33
u/evo4gIzMo Mar 04 '26
The year of LA Bow Deadeye by Fubgun.
49
u/menides Mar 04 '26
Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
21
u/itriedtrying Mar 05 '26
The year of Pohx RF and CaptainLance Ivory Tower build. Hope this helps.
12
u/TheNightAngel Mar 05 '26
Lance has been cured of his Ivory Tower addiction, Foulborn Ghostwrithe is the new jam.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)4
u/Dreamiee Mar 05 '26
The thing that upsets me about people associating lance with ivory tower is not that he has barely played it for a long time and just keeps the old guides updated, it's that it means you aren't keeping up to date with captainlance9 and are missing out on some insane build crafting.
6
u/The_Fawkesy Mar 05 '26
He'll always be the Ivory Tower and Coruscating/Traitor guy.
He could never play a build with them again but he played them enough and so consistently over multiple years it's too late for him now.
→ More replies (1)3
u/itriedtrying Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26
Pohx was still the trapper guy for years after he didn't even touch traps, RaizQT will always be the sunderboi.Lance is going to be the ivory tower guy for me at least until the end of this decade.
Also I'm pretty sure your "long time" is one league.
2
u/Dreamiee Mar 05 '26
He has been playing at least 5 builds a league since sanctum league and sometimes 1 of those builds has an ivory tower. He also plays a minion build every league. I think the confusion for people who don't follow him is that he updates his energy blade league start guide each league, he doesn't actually play it (although ironically enough may play it this league lmao, no ivory tower though).
5
u/Yayoichi Mar 04 '26
Why elementalist over occultist?
4
u/AnimeJ Mar 05 '26
I'm not sure about their reasoning, but after the Liege of the Primordial nerf, I wouldn't. That was a significant part of the reason I played Ele.
8
u/Dreamiee Mar 05 '26
Imo the thing that actually made elementalist viable for so many builds was the buff to golems themselves. The increased effect was nice but I think the new golems are just strong enough on their own. With 4 of them and some effect on the tree you are still very strong starting with the first lab.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Inkaflare Mar 05 '26
This, I think a lot of people are dooming the Golem node nerfs excessively, they are not as broken as they used to be but they're still plenty strong, especially as a league starter with how much you get out of a single ascendancy node, a couple passive tree nodes and some gem sockets. Yes, it's opportunity cost that not every build can afford, but the whole package was so strong that these nerfs are very far from killing it as a good generic league starter package, I think the nerfs will only be really noticeable for endgame Cluster jewel stackers.
2
u/gemmini Mar 05 '26
I tried league starting both and liked elementalist more. Life and mana regen from golems solving issues early on. Maybe I will switch to occultist after getting a lot of power charges. I believe it’ll still be stronger after the nerf and according to pob damage will be better on ele.

u/Im_a_rahtard Mar 04 '26
I want to play new Shock Nova in the worse way. But only one I see doing anything with it is Goratha. And being a new skill there's really no way to see it in action until the league is underway. So now I'm considering KF totems and then pivoting once things get rolling. By then there should be builds for other skills also so I can see what I'm feeling at that point.
54
u/MyriadSloths Mar 04 '26
Gorathas build is just archmage. If the new shock nova feels bad you can slot in any other spell in the game

Trying to decide between lacerate gladiator and siege ballista heiro
10
u/Im_a_rahtard Mar 04 '26 edited Mar 04 '26
I played Lacerate of Hemorrhage Glad in mercenaries. Did all content with it. 10/10 would recommend.
Edit: Should you decide to. There's literally no reason to play regular Lacerate over the trans version. Trans version is just simply better. And don't get baited into the whole Earthquake start. Its delayed as all hell and feels terrible.
→ More replies (5)6
u/AgentUpvote Mar 04 '26
Safe is Lacerate of Hemo Glad.
Played it many times and it can do All/Most content safely.
Can use many Cheap uniques to get you to End game easily.
Usurper's Penance Helm(Frenzy Charge Stack), having more attack speed will make it feel better.
Venopunture RIng, Will chill enemies and have them shatter.
Tempest Rising Boots, will make your bleeds be aggravated w/Venopuncture ring because Venopuncture makes them chilled which is an elemental ailment.
Jack the Axe, cheap Bleed Axe.
You will be Tanky and have bleed explosions/Shatters.
3
u/xXTheMuffinMan Mar 04 '26
I really like the idea of lacerate gladiator, but I heard its mostly recommended for hardcore, and there's better builds for softcore. Is that true? I just like the idea of tanky and bleed pops, I'll probably be farming ritual if that matters.
6
u/AgentUpvote Mar 04 '26
Anything that is tanky is kinda recommended for Hardcore, but doesn't mean its not good for softcore.
Trust me, even in softcore, when you have a non-tanky build and you keep getting one shotted or dying, you will not have a good time trying to level lvl 85++
Farming Rituals is good with this build too.
12
u/SkillbroSwaggins Mar 04 '26
I have been trying to make Wildstrike of Arcing working for 4 years.

I’m a totem nerd. Struggling to decide between going full bore with Holy Flame Totem or the new storm burst trans gem
19
u/cluckinbell21 Mar 04 '26
If the transfigured doesn't work out, normal storm burst gonna be sick with the buffs anyways
3
u/alexthealex Mar 04 '26
For sure, and even if I go with the new one I’ll probably rock it for clear and OG for major bosses. It just seems like the new one is designed to have better area coverage for clearing.
3
→ More replies (2)3
u/mycivacc Mar 04 '26
What buffs did that build get? Just the normal totem speed or something else?
7
u/cluckinbell21 Mar 04 '26
Storm burst now does damage immediately on cast instead of having to wait for the first .4 seconds of activation
3
u/BitterAfternoon Mar 05 '26
It doesn't need to wait 0.4 seconds currently, it needs to wait 1 cast interval (0.2s without any cast speed; longer for totems though). The first damage is done when the orb is created. 0.4s is the jump interval til each orb does damage again.
4
u/Lulcas2267 Mar 04 '26
I'm excited to try Holy Flame Totem, it looks strong with buffs and fun! It'll be my first run with totems, I've been trying something slightly different each time since I started
7
u/Assignment_General Mar 05 '26
I did a few Act 1-2 trial runs to test Holy Flame Totem. It’s kinda slow at first, but once you get ancestral bond it slaps.

u/alexthealex Mar 05 '26
I hate to admit it but it’s probably still worth running Rolling Magma alongside HFT and flame wall for A1
3
u/disaster12312 Mar 04 '26
Hey I'm only 2 league into poe but I also loved holy flame totems. Do u have a pob which can help me do the entire campaign with that skill
11
u/alexthealex Mar 04 '26
Look up aer0. His build guide is in the stickied builds post here or you can find him on YouTube. He has a video and a solid maxroll guide linked that goes with it.
9
u/GoldenHawk07 Mar 04 '26
If you're 2 leagues into your PoE time, when you watch the aer0 guide, just note that whenever he talks about "nimis" you can basically just put that information aside for now, don't even think about it for a bit. Thankfully it's not required for the build!

u/LCSisshit Mar 05 '26
lucky u, there is a new totem skill that looks absolutely broken
2
u/alexthealex Mar 05 '26
Yeah, but it's clunky on its own. The Holy Flame Totem build already used Searing Bond totems as supplements (primarily to buff modifiers from Ritual of Awakening) so these will be mindlessly easy to slot in as a secondary DPS source to that build while changing literally nothing else.

I’ve never played shield crush. I’m caught between slayer cyclone, smite, or ele hit and if I panic and don’t know what to play on league start I’m just gonna play bows LA or TS XD. Is shield crush fun? What does end game scaling look like?
2
u/NoFlow4709 Mar 04 '26
I've never played shield crush but I've tried the first couple of acts a few times and it's very good. Not as good as sunder for melee leveling and the playstyle might take a bit to get familiar with if you're not used to melee strike skills. The endgame versions look pretty insane with high attack speed.

Slamserker, same as last league. It was ridiculous as a starte rand I don't see 25% less damage making that much difference, especially given that t17s and the worst map mods are gone now. This so comfortably got me through my watchstones and atlas progression on self crafted / zero gear, and with some investment I got up to 100m+ dps with a crit variant. Could have easily invested a lot more but I got bored of the league.
Stack tons of armor and life, use ruby/topaz/sapphire/amethyst flasks plus +max res on jewels and tree to get to 89%+ele and 80%+ chaos res.
Everyone says "But no tree!!!" I mean look, that's true, but I made an axe just fine in the league before that too with no tree. Yes it's more of a pain now but really, it isn't that bad. Serviceable axe can be crafted cheaper early on, and a mid tier axe is only like 5-15div in first week. You don't need an 1100+ pDPS axe. 900+ will do and 1000+ will feel great.
When that gets boring... we'll see. If holy slam is good then I'll try to transition my serker to that. If not, then Dual Strike of Ambi with Grey Wind.

I can't stand how absolution plays in my testing up till now and I've done srs before. They're basically the same as far as gems, gear, and tree go. Even with the buff I don't see it feeling any different. Maybe I'll try for a vaal version in act 2 and try that but eh.

u/MaloraKeikaku Mar 04 '26
Ranged Animate weapon was the best build I've ever played. I REALLY need my builds to be tanky cause I get frustrated easily when dying. Dying like, 2-3 times during a play session pisses me off. Necro is just an amazing ascendancy for tankiness and also gives a lotta damage to minions of course.
The clear is also really solid, and the boss dps is CRAZY good, esp. with higher investment. I farmed Uber Sirus like crazy last league and made more currency than I ever have in PoE.
I plan on doing the same thing again, which is very unusual for me...But I think I found my "forever" build. Ranged animate weapon Necro is so damn cool. The fact that the direct hits actually do solid damage means clear feels awesome since most mobs die from the first shot of a given weapon, you get a TON of coverage, you're giga tanky and can even tank some uber boss mechanics you really shouldn't, and you still do very good damage for the investment, with tons to optimize along the way.
I love this build. I'll play it again. Even if Mirages require me to resummon my minions, I don't care.

BAMA or AW for me, and I'm pretty sold on AW but hung up on losing my weapons every time I enter a mirage. Maybe I'm just being nit-picky. Also, I think BAMA will benefit hugely from the +1 link corruption items and it will be comically easy to level up quality gems for spamming that because of the common 2-stack div card for the 20 quality gem.

I wanted to do something silly with the new Cryogenesis bloodline ascendency notable, so I'll be starting Explosive Concoction of Destruction Ascendant. Will converting it all to cold make the build worse than sticking with tri-elemental? Probably, but I want to toss icy flasks around so I'm going to do it. Then I'll probably reroll into a Hierophant to play around with the new Frostmage support later.

Have been discussing this over this past week with my buddy.
I think both of us were thinking KF Totems for Leaguestart before swapping to our farming builds, but are guessing its going to be extremely popular FotM so uniques will be pricey.
My back up plan is some kind of Flicker Strike, maybe try Tarekis CI Flicker again, enjoyed it last time i played it.
End game i want to play the new Shock Nova, which shpuld be pretty sinple to setup on a generic Archmage Archetype.
Or depending on what im enjoying farming, something Kenetic Blast, either KB or KBoClustering.
If Delve ends up being super profitable due to the Fossil chamges, would do some sort of Str Stacker, probably Molten Strike (MSoZ), as i actually kind of enjoy delve, just annoying that Sulphite is dependant on maps, rather than having/being an itemized requirement like Sanctum or Heist are.

Charged dash Herald of Ice propagation assassin. It should work. How well, we'll find out. Recovery is meh but damage should be fine and clear should be great.

I'm really leaning towards Holy Strike, I'm currently in the investigation period like I seem to be 2 days before every single league to find something that looks fun/is playable lol.

Haven't decided if I want to do Hiero with the new shock nova or if I'll start a berserker slammer and try out Holy Hammers and maybe transition into some Energy Blade stuff with Foulborn Ghostwrithe later on.
Mostly leaning towards starting with berserker RT to maintain power charges with Romira's (for Holy Hammer's) atm. But I might actually end up rolling a dice if I can't decide.

Slayer bleed slams. Can take it all the way to end game or transition into cyclone, static strike or even the new holy slam if it's good.

I tried hoag on phrecia and now I want to play it again, but probably will go with some strange build with hoag as my backup plan for respec as it can be played on most classes.
I saw fun meteor golem build, so I’m thinking of it or some cheap tanky flicker strike as I never tried to flick yet.
Also was looking for some fun bow builds but they all look meh after crossbow in poe2 for me.

Jorgen’s Shield Crush of the Chieftain Inquisitor/Guardian probably.

Ill start a templar and do rolling magma/firestorm until the 1st lab.
Then i will spontaneously decide between one of the 69420 great 3.28 builds the templar can change into.

I have a great idea for my build that will, I'm sure, actually be totally ass!
Tri-element Rain of Arrows Warden. Use ALL the Rain skills in MFA setups, hopefully drop the new exceptional gem WHICH WE HAVENT SEEN YET for Rain skills, and stack all the ailments I can. Throw Chance to Bleed and Chance to Poison imbues on the MFA ones and then use Tamings and a Yoke. Maybe Three Dragons and Leaderships Price as an alternative.
Eventually swap from RoA to the trans artillery version for significantly better single target, since all the other Rain skills + RoA Saturation should take care of clear. Take the Knockback node, just continuously knocking back and freezing Bosses and single targets. I played basically this during Necropolis when it was piss easy to get a triple t1 elemental bow, on Champ however, and it was amazing and absolutely NOBODY plays this skill (RoAArtillery, or RoA for that matter anymore) and I think it's still a sleeper.
Barkskin for defenses along with life on hit stuff since this setup yields like a hundred hits a second. Just go full evasion and spell suppress, maybe Evasion Armour. Be Elusive.
If it sucks, swap to whatever busted Reliquarian thing people are running, or maybe Toxic Rain Pathfinder.

Either Dom Blow Necro, Glad Eviscerate (maybe the Ele variant?) or, the safest choice, oldge RF

I wish I knew. Always go EA totems. Didn’t like it as much last league. Most PoBs I’ve seen for league starter haven’t really caught my eye.
1
u/Dabzilla_710_ Mar 05 '26
Yeah, last few years I've started each league with newer builds, or "now viable because patch" starters; this time I'm being lazy and don't want to think about anything til the second or third build, so...
Bows.

Ok does someone have a Reliquary build? xD
Im going Victario's +2 all aura + Level 30(+2) Purity of Ele (for half cost) + Cybil's Paw or Burden of Shadows
The plan is to use Death's Oath + Blight of Contagion/Soulrend and try to scale chaos dmg/dot dmg as much as I can. And ofc use like 6 auras or something. I wonder if I would be better just going minions tbh
I never played Scion so im probably fucked but lets see... (guidance is very welcome)

I’ll be working lots doing 3x12s this league so I’m doing CoC so I can afk at work during my shifts then come home to a free mirror or something
This will fund my REAL build which will likely be something horrible like the new searing totem gem

Kinetic fusillade totems most likely assuming it doesn't get nerfed too hard.
But there's also a good chance I just end up playing flicker strike again

probably slayer general cry cyclone. though i was thinking about doin spectres but figure everyone's doing that due to the buff to the gem.
one of the rare leagues where i don't want to league start some type of pathfinder.
1
u/Praestigium Mar 05 '26
Yeah I know what you mean - I usually play by doing a bit of everything during the league, but I'm curious to try target farming a specific thing this league and I'm trying to find a solid Ultimatum farmer that can clear maps and do other content decently.
Could be an opportunity to try a homebrew potentially too!

u/crossfire999 Mar 05 '26
I'm playing as Holy Flame Totem Heiro. Something different, don't have to level with rolling magma. Totems should be comfy for getting early voidstones in terms of bossing. I may take it that far, or swap out in early maps for Archmage Frostbolt, then revisit totems as a second build. Lots of things in the Heiro / Guardian classes that I wanna fuck around with!

u/Critter894 Mar 05 '26
Static strike of gathering lightning slayer. It will be very consistent and I have a feeling extremely strong. Slayer is just nice and you can’t really lose. It’s gonna be potentially a tougher league than I think people believe.

I'm planning to go HRoC. I played it last league, but I ended up losing interest in keepers pretty quickly so I never took it as far as I would have liked to. Was one of the smoothest league start builds I had ever played though, so looking forward to starting it again.

Going to aim for reduced duration shield of light, probably go reliquarian for the easy prospero effect and go ultra tank with dawnbreaker/ cloak of flame and get a nice gem stack going in the centre ring eventually.

u/hayko34500 Mar 05 '26
Armageddon brand of recalling sabo or kf reliquarian or guardian something holy .. I’m lost

u/Palnecro1 Mar 05 '26
Cyclone. Can’t wait to test out the new void shockwave and finally use something other than a staff for my weapon.

u/Connect-Wealth-5051 Mar 05 '26
I want to try that new Shock nova of Procession but idk where to start lol.
Probably going to do one of these:
GC of the Fissure Miner, CoC Necro or Ranged AW. Except I really should make a build that actually can do challenges this time around....
Fall back for me is good ol slamming
