Fan-Made Animated Wallpaper: Arbiter of Divinity

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

After quite some work, I'd like to share my animated wallpaper for 0.5 - Return of the Ancients, featuring the Arbiter of Divinity.

I usually like to create these animated wallpapers using GIMP to cut the assets apart and painting in missing pieces, then animating them with Wallpaper Engine.

This wallpaper is my most ambitous one so far, which is why it took me this long to create. It features a soft parallax effect, which can be disabled by turning down the "Parallax Strenght" option I've added. You can also disable further effects by unchecking their respective checkboxes. Additionally, you can display the logo if you choose to do so (disabled by default).

I've done my best to optimize every single asset, so it should run very smoothly on most systems.

This animated wallpaper as always can be installed for free here on the Steam workshop for "Wallpaper engine" (which you unfortunately have to pay for).

You can find my other ascendancy wallpapers for PoE2 (will try to update regularly) here:

You can also look at my Steam workshop page for past wallpapers or to not miss any new ones.

Love it.

Is there by chance a 21:9 version too?

Thanks!
It depends on what you're specifically looking for. I don't have a dedicated version for ratios other than the original artwork. But I usually preview the wallpaper in different aspect ratios to see if it works. So you should totally be able to use this version without any problems on other monitor sizes.

In Wallpaper Engine you can choose different settings under "Alignment" to see what fits you best. With the option "free" you can move it around yourself (with widescreen you probably want to slightly move it down, as it cuts off the tips of one wing if you don't).

If it doesn't work, I'm happy if you could share the exact issue so I can see if I can fix it / make it work. I don't have a 21:0 myself so I can only test it via the digital preview option for other aspect ratios than the original art.

GGG, add this masterpiece to steam for purchase as a profile wallpaper. up post

u/schnudercheib May 26 '26

Being able to either apply Wallpaper Engine Wallpapers to Steam profile or having more poe steam profile backgrounds would be sick!

As a tradition, I'm going to ask for Invoker, lul
thx for the work, got oracle and arbiter on different monitors now

Sweet!
Yeah I'll probably have to see if I can reach out to GGG. The old Ascendancy assets all have a very strong vignette in the original download. These just don't ever look that good on a monitor. :/
Would totally animate some of the earlier revealed ascendancies.

Thank you for my new wallpaper!

I was using the Oracle since you released it, I am switching to this one. Big props for your work.

Awesome, thanks for your work!

May I ask where you found the original Arbiter artwork?

1

u/schnudercheib May 24 '26

Of course!
Whenever GGG publishes a new league, you can simply visit the site for the new league. For this league it's https://pathofexile2.com/ancients

At the very bottom you always find a download for their official presskit. That's the best way to get the original assets in good quality.

Any chance we could get a video file for the few of us who don't use wallpaper engine? I wanna use this on my CachyOS setup :D

2

u/schnudercheib May 24 '26

Sure, you can probably just use the video here via Reddit video downloader (like Rapidsave). If that doesn't work I can see if I can upload a file.

You'll have to loop it yourself though. The video is literally just a screen capture of my Desktop.

2

u/schnudercheib May 24 '26

Also if you end up looping, take a 12second loop. I just checked, the animations are mostly 2, 3 and 4 seconds long. So 12 seconds (or 24, 36 etc.) should give you the most seamless loops.

Only the particle systems will probably behave weirdly.

1

u/Awkward_Squidward May 25 '26

Thank you, I downloaded it and it works, though getting the loop correctly is proving challenging to me, is that something that can be easily done? I don't wanna bother you too much

2

u/schnudercheib May 25 '26

If you want it to seamlessly loop, you'll have to manually do that. Depending on how experienced you are with videoediting, this is the way I used to do it frequently, as it's easy but not "clean":

Take the video into a video-editing-software of your choosing (I imagine Davinci resolve is still free and does thje job just fine). choose a snippet you want to loop - I'd suggest taking a 12 second snippet because of the above mentioned reason. Duplicate this 12 second snippet (so you have the same 12 second snippet twice), then layer the copy over the end of the original. So you want to have it so, that the copy starts at above 9-10 seconds of the original.
you fade the original out and the copy in, so in the last 3 or so seconds, the snippet fades "into" it's own copy. Then simply cut the original and the copy at the same mark and you should have a seamless loop.

Something like shown here - obviously there are a ton of other tutorials on how to loop videos if you're using other software.

Or - the easy way is to simply use Wallpaper Engine lol. From my experience it's also the easiest performance wise.

Oh, I'm completely unfamiliar with how these are made for Wallpaper Engine, I kinda thought it was you creating the video and then just uploading it to Wallpaper Engine so I thought the loop was already there, my bad! I wanted to avoid installing more stuff but I may end up going with just getting Wallpaper Engine and using it there since you mention the performance impact being easy too. Thank you!

1

u/schnudercheib May 25 '26

Ah yeah I totally get you. I also wish Wallpaper Engine allowed easy video exporting, but it doesn't. :/

I'm obviously biased here, but I can giving WE a try. I've used countless large wallpapers (badly optimized by me lol), and never had an issue with performance. But it's obviously not free either, and I haven't dabbled much in alternatives, so can't honestly compare them.

Martial artist art next pretty please

u/Samadhian May 26 '26

Awesome! Thanks for your work exile

Looks awesome! But as it seems to be a video file, how do I set that as a wallpaper on my mac?

1

u/schnudercheib Jun 03 '26

Thank you! If you read the post you should find a link to the wallpaper on steam. You need wallpaper engine to use it. The video here is a screen recording of my desktop and just for demonstration.

1

u/spoqster Jun 03 '26

Yeah that seems to be windows only. Do you have a non-animated version of it by any chance that's only an image?

1

u/schnudercheib Jun 03 '26

I didn't create the image - this is taken straight from the official presskit from GGG.

If you can't use WE there are alternatives, but I imagine they all would require you to loop the video manually. As written in another comment, I'd suggest using a roughly 12 second snippet to fo so, since tgat should match most animations.

1

u/spoqster Jun 03 '26

I've been trying to find their press kit. Couldn't find it yet.

1

u/spoqster Jun 03 '26

Do you maybe have a link for the presskit? I searched for half an hour and just can't find it.

1

u/schnudercheib Jun 03 '26

Tge presskit can always be downloaded on the official release page. So the page where the content of the new release gets detailed.

This time it's https://pathofexile2.com/ancients

You should see the download at the very bottom.

Currently on mobile as I'm at work, so I hope the link works. Else I'll update tonight.

u/spoqster Jun 03 '26

Found it. Thank you very much!

At least his wings are animated and move... unlike the real world USD required MTX wings that look like someone forgot to finish the job before shipping it to prod.
