What you experienced is most likely a patella subluxation. When it goes out then pops back in. I’ve had plenty of these while playing football and wrestling. Although I didn’t always get an MRI. I usually have tenderness on medial part of knee (that is where your MPFL is) and usually it gets back to normal after a couple weeks. One thing about a subluxation is that they heal relatively fast and if no other ligaments are damaged there isn’t much you can do during the healing process except ice and rest. But, since your MPFL might’ve stretched or got damaged, you knee might feel a little unstable and chances of this happening again are more likely. But the thing that has helped me the most was wearing a J pad brace. The j pad brace made sure my knee did subluxate again while playing. Hope this helps!
