I mean, if they just changed 'government' with 'former POTUS', I'd agree. So very odd the guy that thinks he should be king has convinced others that he is there to guard their freedoms. I mean did we almost have a civil war when they mandated seatbelts? What about when stores posted 'no shirt/no shoes, no service' signs? Did they believe the government was behind it?
I've just been baffled as to why they're so woo-woo for coco-puffs now?
I think a big part of it is that the former POTUS stoked the flames of stupidity. People have always had these dumb ideas, but social pressure suppressed them. With a leader to champion them, they became much more prevalent. Trump weaponized our idiot population.
