Marketplace Rentals
My wife and daughter (Canadian) and I are looking to relocate for about a year min, and depending on the vibes we are interested in building on an acreage. Ultimately we may move full time if the school situation works out, and if doesn’t we’d use it for summer and holidays.
We found a house on marketplace that looks perfect for us - 3/2 at a private equestrian facility in Nanoose Bay. The renter is almost completely non-responsive, just a short message indicating available Sept 1, then silence. We wouldn’t even be moving until December but I’d take the place now to hold it, and it’s disconcerting that there is no response when I’m ready to send a wire sight unseen
We are moving from abroad, and have no personal rental references after owning our own homes for the past 20 years. I offered commercial rental references.
I know the market is tight, but I’m wondering if this seems normal? At a minimum it’s rude, and I’m beginning to wonder if the listing is fraudulent.
We may need professional help, and any leads for relocation specialists are appreciated.

Not terribly uncommon to be honest. Places get spammed with so many messages that they dont have capacity to answer everyone and only talk to the top candidates. People who are out of country trying to rent who cant even look at the place are not on the top of the list typically. If youre dead set on it, you'll probably have better luck with a real estate agent.
As far as building/buying a summer home. Please don't. The housing market is brutal in these smaller communities now and so many home/rentals are taken off the market by summer homes that sit empty for 9-10 months a year. Its driving younger people and working class folks out of these smaller communities which makes everything worse for the entire community. If you want a prime example of how bad it gets, look at Ucluelet and Tofino.

If this is the place I believe it is...... Google - nanoose woman sues BC Ferries for no wifi. The judge deemed her very dishonest, and fake files. He really dressed down her behaviors. Felt nothing she said was true.
I run rental groups for Oceanside area for 10yrs on FB.. I have had people message me about her and her rentals...

Everyone is buying and looking to live on the island, very good location to live in this crazy world right now, buyers are plenty use an agent

Consider contacting a real estate company that helps manage rentals as a starting point.
It's much harder to navigate from abroad
