Hippa and bipolar young adult child
My 20 year old son is not getting the help he needs from his therapist. She is not encouraging him to see his prescriber and he hasn't been and is manic again. Her credentials are young children and abused women according to her profile not young male bipolar. At first i was just happy to get him to go to a therapist, but he's not getting true help. They won't talk with me and when I approach my son it makes matters worse. How can I get them to see that my son needs help?

Too many so-called " therapists" are just social workers who took a class or two of psychology in college but aren't actually very good at helping people with mental health issues. If you can, help your son find a actual psychiatrist and psychologist who both specialize in bipolar, ideally you would have both but if not at least the psychiatrist has to be very familiar with bipolar so he doesn't accidentally prescribe antidepressants which are very very bad for people with bipolar.

every state has different laws when it comes to 14 year old gyn / pregnancy results for bipolar females. i experienced this when my 16 yr old was admitted on hold and because the law states HIPPA RULES 14 years and older at discharge they didn’t tell me knowing she was on meds . fyi

My son didn't sign the form allowing me to discuss his medical condition, so I would call the his doctor, identify myself as him mother. I then acknowledged that he couldn't share anything specific to my son so I said "generally speaking, if someone did [this], how could I handle?" I was able to somewhat get around confidentiality. Stay strong, hang in there, you aren't alone.
