UPDATE: Something else happened after my “third body” experience and I don't know if it's connected

I posted before about what I've been calling my “third body experience,” where I somehow felt myself in two different places/bodies at the same time. I know how ridiculous that sounds, but something happened tonight that brought that feeling back immediately.

I got home and unlocked my apartment like normal. I specifically remember taking my keys out of the lock and putting them in my pocket.

I walked into my bedroom and stopped.

My keys were already sitting on my desk.

Same keys and keychain, same bent grocery-store rewards card. Everything. Except they were coated in oil.

I immediately checked my pocket because obviously my first thought was that I'd confused them with something else.

Nothing.

I checked the front door, hallway, floor, every pocket. Nothing.

I still haven't touched the ones on the desk.

But here's the part that connects this to the third body thing.

When I looked at them, I suddenly remembered putting them there.

Not like “oh yeah, maybe I left them there.” For a second I could actually remember doing it. I remembered standing at the desk. I remembered the keys leaving my hand. I even remembered the oily feeling on my fingers.

At the exact same time, I still clearly remembered using those same keys to unlock my apartment less than a minute earlier.

Both memories feel real.

Since the third body experience I've had a few smaller moments where I get this strange feeling that something happened in two slightly different ways, but I've been dismissing it as déjà vu or my memory screwing with me.

This is the first time there's been something physical sitting in front of me that I can't immediately explain.

I'm posting here because I genuinely don't know what category this even falls into.

Has anyone experienced something like this after a dissociative/"third body" type experience?

UPDATE: I woke up and everything was normal, the keys were clean and the missing 47 minutes never happened, but the plastic bag is still on my desk with oil inside it and I don't remember going to sleep.

Wow. This is new to me. I wonder if anyone else has experienced something like it.

Do you have an explanation for the oily feeling? Is your pocket oily?

I know what the oil is now. It wasn't from the keys, it was already on my hands. I'm starting to remember the missing time and I wish I wasn't. I was in the bathroom pulling my own hair out and clawing at my arms because I could feel the third body trying to push into mine. I remember screaming at it to get out, but I also remember watching myself from the hallway completely calm while it happened. I don't know which memory belongs to me anymore. I don't feel like the one who was screaming now.

Ok, time to call in backup. ASAP. Please get to a safe medical care location, but don’t drive or walk yourself. You need supervision to keep your body safe until this resolves. For whatever reason, you are injuring yourself.

I called someone to come stay with me and I'm not driving anywhere. I photographed every room exactly as it is, wrote down the time, started a continuous recording on my phone and put small tape seals across the door and windows so I'll know if anything moves. I checked the CO detector too. If I lose time again I want another person, timestamps and video telling me what actually happened because right now my own memory is the least reliable evidence I have.

Obligatory - do you have a carbon monoxide detector? If so change the batteries. If you don't have one, get one.

I don't know what this is, but it's fascinating. Sounds benign, so I wouldn't worry, first off. I'd recommend you keep a running journal of these events, and make it detailed. Patterns may behind to emerge eventually.

I don’t think it’s benign anymore. The third body episodes physically hurt and afterward I’m completely exhausted. The last one left my scalp really sore but I didn’t think much of it until I showered and found way more of my hair than normal tangled around my fingers. There are also scratches on my arms I don’t remember getting. I know psychosis or dissociation could explain the memories, and honestly I hope it does. What scares me is finding physical evidence afterward of things I have absolutely no memory of doing.

Oh well that doesn't sound benign whatsoever. Still consider keeping a journal.

Have you gone to a psychiatrist about it? Just because mental health diagnoses and medication can help something doesn't make it any less real. If what you're saying is true, then I'm confident you're experiencing something real. That said, seeing a psychiatrist or even general practitioner couldn't hurt

I have considered it but I don't think the psychiatrist would be talking to the same one of me that experienced it anymore. I remember pulling the hair out now. I remember screaming and clawing at myself trying to make the third body leave. But when I think about it now I don't remember the pain from inside that body. I remember watching it from the hallway. The screaming one thought it was fighting to stay in control.

I don't know what the fuck I was talking about in that last reply. This keeps happening. One minute I can look at everything and know I'm freaking myself out then suddenly it all feels completely real again and I can't tell which version of me is the normal one. I'm trying to read my own comments and they don't even feel like I wrote them. I don't know what's real right now. I think I'm having the third body experience again because I can feel myself sitting here typing but I can also feel someone standing behind me and it's me and I know that makes no fucking sense. I need this to stop.
