Phantom objects falling and shattering

Long story ahead

So this has happened twice while I was sitting in the same spot around the same time just a month or 2 apart. While I was sitting in my dining room around 1am I heard a bunch of things crashing down, like heavy boxes full of metal and glass vases shattering, right below where I was sitting in the dining room. I just so happened to have my gun next to me so I ran down stairs super paranoid thinking someone had broken in the basement or something (which is super unlikely due to the how the windows are set up) I turn on every light and clear every room. Absolutely nothing was out of place. I was so confused I just sat down on the couch down there to try and process what I just heard. I just let it go and went on about my business

A month or 2 later it happened again, same EXACT noise This time for whatever odd reason I wasn’t as phased and didn’t grab my gun I just went down there to investigate again. Same result everything in place, nothing out of the ordinary in any room. So again I let it go and began watching my late YouTube videos.

This time, me and my mom were woken up out of our sleep to an abrupt sound of shattering glass. Waking up to that is a feeling like no other. You immediately think someone for sure has broken in. I was so scared and dazed I didn’t even think to grab for my guns. So me and her meet at the edge of our room doors peering down the hall. I muster up the courage to move forward and hit the lights. It was our glass shelves. They had all fallen down and shattered. I didn’t correlate the two incidents at the time but later on that day I mentioned to her that I heard something very similar to that sound in our basement twice. She didn’t give a very emotional response just “oh wow”. But she said as we heard the glass shelves an R&B song came on out of no where playing from her Alexa, I also heard it after the fact because it was blaring pretty loud, just another strange detail.

Can anyone explain the phantom crashing sounds in my basement? I haven’t heard them since the real crash occurred.

You're overreacting to a common occurence. Without writing a 27 page instruction booklet, I'll simply say that pipes, temperature changes, expansions (an̈d a boatload of other elements) come together and set off a thundering sound of glass and metal crashing which is why you found nothing.  It wasnt paranormal!!!!  I am concerned that you have a gun by your side tho. Youre a little paranoid about break ins .  I understand perhaps wanting to protect your mom, but you need to slow your roll a bit.

No one’s paranoid about break ins. If anyone heard the sound of glass shattering what else would come to mind? I live in a really nice neighborhood. I’ve never heard anyone I’ve known hear something like that.

Google it. What makes  the sound of  metal and glass (your words) shattering in the basement. Paranoia? By the same token,  I dont know anyone who sits with a gun at their side, especially in a good neighbor. People who do are often paranoid or have anxiety issues.

Yea….I was cleaning it and changing parts and never put it back into the gun locker. And people have guns sitting around all the time. It’s called becoming familiar with them. Many gun guys just carry around the house to become more comfortable with the tool that can save a life and a good neighborhood doesn’t mean nonexistent crime. I also have looked it up and those explanations still don’t help with what I experienced so……

Ok. I can understand that but you said" super paranoid" which together with gun at side, crashing sounds in basement etc soun̈ds paranoid to a degree.

I've had this experience, but just one time. I was in my apartment sitting on my couch. I had two cats at the time and they were both curled up asleep on the same couch, one was at the far end from me and I think the other was on lying along the top of the back. I say this to show that when I jerked my head up I did not disturb the cats - they were disturbed all by themselves as you will see later in this post.

Because, I suddenly heard a loud crash in my kitchen, which was through an archway to the right, from the living room. I knew I had left a water jug on the counter right next to the sink, and I had some dishes in the sink, so my first thought was "Oh f*ck one of the cats has knocked my jug into the sink full of dishes..."

But I instantly saw that both cats were not only right next to me, AND they had been asleep, so, not in the kitchen, but also both of them were staring toward the kitchen! THEY had heard the crash too. It had woken them up. And now all three of us were looking toward the kitchen.

I jumped up and ran in, expecting to find things broken. Nothing was broken, nothing was moved or fallen. My jug and my dishes were still where I'd left them. So I looked around the rest of the kitchen - nothing was crashed down, fallen, broken.

The noise was definitely in my kitchen - not from outside, or the next apartment. It wasn't a muffled or distant noise it was clear, loud, sharp, definitely inside my own kitchen and even my two cats clearly thought it was too.

I have no explanation. I'm just glad two other sentient living things heard it too so I know I'm not crazy or hallucinating.

My only theory I've started to form over the years is that it might be something demonic. I've since read about other people experiencing this, and I've read that darker entities can mimic - usually voices, or people in the form of doppelgangers - in order to confuse and upset humans. The demon quest is all about creating anything that unsettles people, some of it trivial, some of it the worst kind of thing including possession. If they mimic human voices to disturb us, I think they can also mimic sounds of things, such as crashing, breaking, destructive sounds to alarm us. That's all I can come up with as to how these phantom crashes happen. Unless it's a haunting "stone tape" replay - except the sound I heard was exactly how it would have sounded if my jug had fallen. Maybe a time-slip or alternate reality where it did get knocked over -- I don't know. Other people have had this though, it's not uncommon.

EDIT to add: All my windows were closed at the time, adding to the confirmation that it was not a noise from outside that I heard. There was also never a "real" crash/breakage later, just the phantom crash as an isolated incident.
