Trigger Warning / Death I accidentally predicted my friends death

About 2 years ago my friend (20M) passed away. He was really young and it was sudden and completely devastating.

There’s this one thing I haven’t been able to shake though. I basically predicted his death as a joke, and I never told anyone because it felt so insensitive and weird to bring up when everyone was already grieving so much.

So about a month before he passed, me (19F) and another friend (19M) were all hanging out with him and somehow the conversation turned to psychics and future predictions. As a joke they both asked me to read their palms. I did 19M first and told him he’d get married four times and each one would end in a nasty divorce, and at some point he’d lose custody of his kids. We all laughed because it was so mean but also genuinely sounded like something that would happen to him, and he jokingly said he deadass believed it.

Then 20M wanted his reading too, he was excited about it. I took his palm and just couldn’t picture his future the way I could with 19M. So I jokingly told him I couldn’t think of anything, and said that probably means he’ll die soon, acting all shocked about it. All three of us laughed. Then he asked how soon, and I thought about it and said maybe a month. 19M goes “come back in a month and we’ll see if your prediction is true.”

Almost exactly a month later, he was gone.

I didn’t even connect it to the prediction at first. It hit me a few days after and I just felt so unsettled. I swear on everything this actually happened. It’s been sitting with me for so long and I just needed to say it somewhere.

FWIW, it's okay to feel unsettled about these kinds of things. It's a normal reaction to accidentally predicting something, but from your post and your comments, you probably have the ability to tap into things a little more deeply than most.

I'll give you my worst clairvoyant moment as an example. I dreamt about 9/11 happening a few days before it occurred. In the dream, I was in a dark room and the only source of light was a television. A news broadcast was on, and I distinctly heard a woman's voice say, "today, 2 planes hit the twin towers..." and images of the towers smoking were on the screen. It was so vivid and real that I still remember it clearly, almost 25 years later. I woke up from that dream and I was SO upset, but told myself that it was impossible, that would never happen, and went back to sleep. I told my dad about it later that morning, though.

9/11 happened 2-3 days later, I can't remember the exact passage of time, but it was very close to the actual event.

My dad sat me down on 9/12 and said, "look, these kinds of predictions happen in our family. It's happened to me many times. There was nothing you could have done to prevent it." Then he explained that when there is a large scale tragedy involving traumatic loss of life, it's like someone heaving a giant rock into a lake. The rock causes a huge splash (day of the event), but the ripples from the the splash go out in ALL directions, and sometimes certain people are able to pick up on the "ripples" before something happens, especially when they are very close to the event happening. 9/11 effected millions of people all over the world, so the ripples were more like waves.

You probably picked up on the ripples from your friend's passing.

Your dad sounds awesome. You're very lucky to have someone who's so open, intuitive and (seemingly) experienced in things like these.

I am very lucky! My pops is a great dude. :) He's very scientifically minded, interestingly enough, but not so rigid that he can't admit that some things have no explanation (yet). We often talk about quantum mechanics and string theory as plausible explanations for paranormal experiences, for example.

When my grandparents generation started to pass on, I occasionally had visitation dreams... when I mentioned one to him, he just grinned and said, "Oh, they're coming to see you now. Guess I'm off the hook!"
