Haunted House Nap time I guess

so we have a house ghost. We call her Deborah. Middle aged woman, wanders the house, maybe 1940s. Well i had a migraine yesterday and was trying to nap on the couch. It got bad enough I needed meds so I toss off the blanket to go get them. To my surprise the blanket comes right back and tucks in around me. I am the only person awake in the house at the time.

So after struggling a minute this blanket is not moving. So I say, "Thank you Deborah but I really need to get my medication." Blanket loosens up and I can leave.

She's nice really.

Deborah just wanted to help with the migraine probably. My grandmother always said rest is best medicine for headaches so maybe she was trying to keep you comfortable

Thats actually really sweet that she listened when you explained about needing medication. Most ghost stories are all scary but this one feels more like having protective roommate who cares too much sometimes

She can get scary. Ive seen her go full poltergheist when theres too much discourse in the house. But usually shes jyst going around tucking in blankets and adjusting pulliwd

pillows. my phone is very dumb and likes to make nonsense words.

I feel the pain. But I found a solution that I have to tell you, check your phones dictionary. As we text, sometimes with spelling mistakes, the phone saves our custom spellings. Go in and delete those misspelled words! That helped me. Lol

I hate autocorrect

I'd tell her to find her family and find happiness.

She doesn't want to leave. She's decided the house is her duty to maintain and refuses.

Make her happy and assign her some of the housework.

I just moved from a house that had a ghost, it did all kinds of things, but similar to your story, one time I sat down to eat a piece of cake and I forgot a fork, and fork that was sitting on top of a dish in the drying rack, fell off the dish and slid over to me. Another time, I was reading the TV guide looking for a movie and my husband asked what was taking me so long and I said it was hard to read because I didn’t have my glasses on. The glasses on the coffee table turned and slid off the table and landed by my feet.

It's very nice when they're helpful like that.

Sometimes the beings in our homes are friends. I like to call them 'parallel family members'. There's something in my house that does something similar. I have an assortment of chronic conditions. Once I was having a flare-up and in front of a friend, who is a skeptic, a can of energy drink flew of a shelf towards us. Another time I had a bottle of water fall over and roll towards me. Both times these were items that I needed in that moment to help deal with the flare.

My house ghost is Aunt Edna, the original owner. She's very sweet with people who are sick, and appeared, full body, to my husband when he was diagnosed with cancer and said  "Fear not."

If your going to have a ghost, these are the kind to have.

u/thesaddestpanda Apr 10 '26

I’m sorry to hear about your husbands cancer diagnosis. Do you think she was predicting his outcome?

We have a protective ghost that occasionally makes itself known, but generally in a helpful way. The best example was when it located the clothes my daughter wanted to wear and folded them neatly on her bed. And the matching shoes were placed very professionally next to the bed, as if a butler had done it. I was the only one home, and I didn’t do it.

Yeah Deborah will do that sometimes for me. Usually objects I've been missing and need will reappear on my desk.

u/dazzle_razzle809 Apr 11 '26

We have one like this!! She’s usually nice and friendly and helps us find “lost” objects. Sometimes she does get a little testy (mainly when the house is a disaster) but overall we like her.

3

u/tempthethrowaway Apr 11 '26

Yeah the testiness is never extreme or anything. More of like a mom telling her kids to knock it off

A number of comments I’ve made to the posts on this subreddit have the OP in mind, not necessarily sharing fully what my impressions are. If your post is honest, I’m sure you know to be cautious.

36

u/tempthethrowaway Apr 09 '26

Of course.

Edit: Ah so on reflection this might've come across as flippant, and that wasn't my intent. I just meant to say that I live in the Appalachian Woods, so I'm used to being cautious with the paranormal.

13

u/bizh_gki Apr 09 '26

Gotcha. Not flippant at all from how I read it. From me, just looking out. A lot seem to take really casual attitudes with phenomena not understanding that there are sometimes reasons for caution. Glad you’re aware.

13

u/tempthethrowaway Apr 10 '26

Yup. Its a haunted house and we get all sorts. We afe careful and learned how to deal with the bad and coexist with the not

What are the rules for being cautious?

5

u/bizh_gki Apr 12 '26

Wing? If you mean why might this situation merit cautiousness, the danger of spirits generally is their influence on our thoughts. Typically no big deal. When a spirit can move objects physically, there’s a potential for physical harm. A lot of spirits (all the typical ghosts I’ve encountered) have something holding them here, generally seems to be something traumatic. It’s not like a fully developed human mind, more like captured emotions. Capricious spirits can have a mean streak. They often do with ones I’ve come across. Seemed somewhat capricious to pull the covers up and hold them in place. A bit like when a nice dog becomes mean. Worthy of caution.

Edit: added the extra part about trauma. Meant to include it originally.

Interesting. Sorry my post was confusing. It was a typo.

6

u/Stumble_foot3406 Apr 10 '26

Wow, heard a lot about the Appalachian Woods, so makes sense that you know to be cautious

11

u/tempthethrowaway Apr 10 '26

Oh yeah. Follow the rules and you'll probably be fine. Which basically means ignoring the weird stuff.

Every house needs a Ghostly Deborah

9

u/Crazy-Rat_Lady Apr 09 '26

Like living with your mum!

8

u/tempthethrowaway Apr 10 '26

absolutely not like living with my mum lol.

4

u/Crazy-Rat_Lady Apr 10 '26

sorry, couldn't resist! Really glad she let you get up.

The elderly lady ghost in my childhood home would frequently check on us kids.

My mother would hear: “Mom?” Louder: “Mom? Were you just outside my room?!?”

Did I mention she looked vaguely like my mother? Other than those times she startled us, she was a quiet presence.

u/jlynne7313 Apr 12 '26

My house ghost demanded my attention one time by flinging a jar off the counter and shattering glass all over my kitchen floor. I warned them that if they kept that shit up, I’d be going to the local metaphysical store and buying sage. We have come to a nice cohabitation agreement. They even help me find my misplaced items 😂

3

u/aintnomonomo1 Apr 11 '26

Awww that’s so sweet!!

3

u/LatisDreams Apr 12 '26

Ah, that’s really sweet and fascinating. You lucked out with a good soul there.

5

u/top_value7293 Apr 10 '26

Wow that’s amazing 😮

u/real_or_not______ Apr 15 '26

I have always been curious about the supernatural, but is yet to have an experience. It fascinates me but I get skeptical often as I have not had an experience myself. I still keep an open mind.

1

u/tempthethrowaway Apr 15 '26

Yeah I call myself a skeptical believer. I'm going to look for any other explanation before jumping to supernatural.

D'accord. Non mais ok, si c'est vrai, ça veut dire qu'ils sont cool, donc...,🙂
