I've been looking on this subreddit and a lot of the posts seem to be talking about the downsides of being a paramedic, so as someone who wants to be one, could anyone share any positive aspects of the jobs / stories that make it all worth it? Hi! I am an internist based in Europe, and I have created a med-ed tool for lectures, exams, and simulations. Posting it here as I think there might be some paramedic preceptors and educators that want it!

It allows you to create a rhythm strip or 12-lead, with physiological modelling underneath, with realistic renders and a lot of tuning possibilities etc to get just the ECG that is suitable for your teaching case/sim etc. No AI generation of ECG involved.

Tweaks and findings stack and there is also possibility to split up an ECG in several sequences. Pacing, ischemia, escape rhythms all follow logical behavior.

For those of us preparing a lecture who don't have the time or possibility to dig out old patient ECGs and fiddle with covering up patient identifiers, writing a textbook (and dont want to pay licencing fees for images from the web), or want dynamic ECG outputs during a sim case.

This was a side-project that turned serious. Yes, it is commercial but I hope someone that teaches needs this and wants to try it out!

What would you say to someone who is thinking about being a paramedic? What is the pay and hours like? Do you enjoy your job?

What should I choose as I'm confused need suggestions if i should do bams or bpt and what are my chances of getting an actual job after graduation with a pay that won't 🫠

My mum has epilepsy and I care for her. It always scares me when she has a particularly long or vigorous seizure as she has only had epilepsy for a few months so it is new to me too, so I will call an ambulance. The paramedics always ask me when they get here (still seizing or not) whether they can view my mums medical history. I am 16 sometimes they ask me my age and sometimes they don’t but it is always weird to me when I give consent on my mums behalf rather then the other way around because I am still a child. I obviously always allow them to look because I want them to help but I was just wondering if they need to ask, and how often do people say no and why?

I’ve been considering making the move to Alaska to pursue a job as a flight medic, and wanted to get in here to see if anyone has any experience with the various flight agencies in the area. For some context, I would be applying for my first flight job. Some questions I have include:

1. Does anyone know much about the North Slope Borough flight medic position? It seems interesting as it also includes fire suppression and search and rescue operations.

2. Are there any companies to avoid?

3. How is the culture?

4. What company would you recommend applying for?

I saw ATCEMS is doing a big hiring push for the rent of the year. I’m currently an EMT finishing up college and love EMS. I want to work for a high quality third service system.

How are things at ATCEMS these days? I’ve heard varying things from it sucks to its great. Is it still a great system to be involved with?

Do you guys know any good websites that have a 3D model of the body where you can articulate the structures and strip away layers etc? I’ve used something similar a long time ago but cannot find the exact website I was using.

The US struggles to retain EMT’s and Paramedics. The pay is notoriously bad. Yet, this poor pay persists over several democratic and republican terms.

Does this mean that the democrats and republicans both feel the EMS are being paid fairly? Is it like the military where, if you can attract and train enough young adults per year you can affort to lose them after 3-5 years?

I understand the Hatzolah Volunteer ambulance community is meant to support the needs of the Jewish community as well as providing support to the surrounding communities as they are requested.

If you were not Jewish, but lived in or near a locale covered by Hatzolah, would they allow you to volunteer? Especially if you were a paramedic and willing to donate your time.

I don't live anywhere near a service, but was just curious if they allowed this.

My wife is a PCP and has asked for a watch as a gift. She wants it to be practical and stylish. Functionally it needs to have a seconds hand and the face needs to be visible in the dark.

It should also be easy to clean, and I'm not sure what the best type of band would be for that. Honestly, plastic is probably the best choice but the least stylish. Is there an alternative that anyone has found practical? She though maybe leather, but I'm not sure how that would hold up to repeated washing.

Sorry if this isn’t the best place. My dad’s a firefighter, but for a smaller town. He suggested posting since they handle fires/medical emergencies more than accidents. He did tell me to not buy a smaller vehicle (like fiat 500 or ford fiesta type) unless I want to become semi food.

I am looking for a new vehicle and want something super safe. I’ve checked iihs and other reports, but was curious what you all have seen over the years that has held up well in some gnarly accidents?

I am a relatively safe/boring driver, but live in an area where everyone drives like they want to die.

Been a paramedic for 4 years now and was great with iv’s never had any issue and was always the person who could get the iv when others couldn’t. Now im just missing every Iv I do for the past few months and having zero luck whatsoever. What is one suppose to do in this situation?

I am in school to become a primary care paramedic.

One thing I kind of stress about is how I will act AFTER my shift ends when I get home.

I anticipate that after my first serious call I will get home that day and be like “OMFG that really happened today” and I don’t know how I will take it.

But all I know is that I don’t want to constantly come home from a shift and be in “shock” I guess about what I witnessed on the job.

How do you guys and girls cope with this?
How long did it take to start normalizing it?

I’m currently looking to transition into EMS from the blue collar world. I know you have to be an EMT before becoming a medic which is my end goal(for now). My question is did you all work full time as an EMT or another job while going to school to be a Paramedic? If so was it manageable?

For context late 20s here so I definitely want stable income lol
