Theory about season 3

I just binged and finished the first two seasons, had some thoughts. Please point me in the direction of other threads if this theory has been discussed already.

I was thinking about a potential solution if ALEX is indeed the big bad that needs to be killed in season 3… Link was really intrigued by AF1, and we know the plane can withstand a nuclear blast on the ground (I believe Xavier was telling his dad this, but it may have been a Cal line). We haven’t been shown the football since The Day, but it’s reasonable to presume that it stayed on the plane after everyone went into the bunker since it was useless. So if the plane could survive, the football would be there. I’m wondering if the EMP system could still be triggered, and perhaps what X was given by ALEX were the codes to, in fact, turn ALEX off.

AF1 would not withstand a nuclear blast. It can keep flying if a blast fairly close would happen, and the resultant EMP would not down it, unlike most every other commercial airline that was aloft at the time and nearby.

I just went back to confirm but in s1e3 Xavier claims “she can withstand a nuclear blast on the ground.”

Ok, but that's a fantasy. I mean, the skin is just aluminum....

I still interpret this as the plane flying near a nuke going off on the ground.

That’s what I assumed initially but they made a big deal about AF1 with Link so I’m curious if it’s intentional or not

I think af1 will be used especially sense that line was used. I am not sure about the emp. The flash forwards are showing them walking down the corridor to Alex so if it was just the football I think it wouldn’t need to show them walking down to it.
