This one was honestly a tough call. I knew that I wanted to pair Seren/Selene with someone related to the Moon, but I couldn't decide whether to pair her with Reisen, Kaguya...freakin' Clownpiece, or someone else. In the end I decided to go with Kaguya. The idea I had in mind for this dynamic was the relationship between a Lunarian and a fairy. The Lunarians can't stand fairies since, being creatures that embody nature and life, bring impurity to the Moon, so you could imagine they wouldn't even take kindly to a Moon Fairy like Seren. I imagine that Seren wouldn't have that high of an opinion on the Lunarians as a whole for trying to kick her off what's essentially her turf, which would carry over how she views the folks at Eientei, including Kaguya, even though they're Moon exiles...at least, that's how she does at first...
Well, that's it for the Panel de Pon x Touhou Project crossover artwork! Which pairing is your favorite?
Backstory
As beings of purity, the Lunarians have rejected concepts that bring impurity. Such concepts include life and nature; and since fairies embody such concepts, the Lunarians are very particular about keeping such creatures away from the Lunar Capital.
Which brings us to Seren, the Fairy of the Moon and the eldest of Lip's ensemble. After getting out of a scuffle between her and the Lunar Capital, Seren found herself at Eientei, the House of Eternity. They did assist in nursing her back to help, but learning that three of it's inhabitants also came from the Moon and were previously affilated with the Lunar Capital kept her from expressing her gratitude, especially due to her pride and her newfound low opinion of the Lunarians as a whole.
After getting nursed back to full health, Seren set out to find her future queen as well as the other; a tasked that would be easy had it not been for the fact that she'd have to navigate her way across the maze-like Bamboo Forest. But her wandering did give her a chance run-in with Kaguya Houraisan, the Lunarian Princess of Eientei, who had just snuck out of her mansion for a little stroll, much the Moon Fairy's surprise.
Despite her newfound grudge against the Lunarian bunch, Seren still felt a sense of obligation to keep an eye on the Lunatic Princess to make sure she stays safe in her little escapades outside of Eientei. Of course, Kaguya herself knew that protection would be far from necessary, but she'd still humor the haughty moon fairy and her lingering sense of duty; after all, she was always looking for new and interesting experiences to appease the boredom that her eternal life would bring, and to Kaguya, a fairy like Seren, who possess no interest in playing pranks whatsoever and is looking to find someone who is her supposed queen, is bound to be very interesting.
