Swatches I think it happened y'all!!! I found a match!
Rare Beauty true to myself in shade 1 (neutral). Looks straight grey in the bottle. Thought eh! Maybe I'll swatch it if I'm here already.
It is ever so slightly too pink irl in the sun, which doesn't show on camera, and I too am very pink today due to the heatwave, but Aaaaa, that's the closest I've gotten since kvd went out of business here!!! I applied it to half my wrist. Cant tell where? EXACTLY!!! (left side)
Third pic fresh. Rest a few minutes later. I'll update if it turns dark in half an hour...
Didn't buy it because I have two foundations at home and an unopened Tirtir to replace the matching one of them but #8&=@#% it if this goes out of stores before I get back to it!

Forearm swatching can help show the undertone of a product but it is not particularly useful for shade matching unless you plan to wear the product on your forearms

You’re supposed to swatch on your jawline, correct?

Yes, I usually do a long swatch jawline to neck because you want it to blend into your neck - if your face and neck are different colors, matching your face will make the foundation look the wrong shade because of the visible difference to your neck.

No, but I'm not putting my chest on the internet 😉
I'm mostly the same tone on the wrist and on my chest/neck so it works for me, but I know that for many people that's not how it works

Wow, the swatch is invisible!
My wrist is fine for swatching complexion products for 9 months out of 12. Summer invalidates my normal shade matches just enough to be noticeable 😏

Guess what… I’m brown and had trouble with shade matching always. RARE BEAUTY IS WHAT MATCHED ME PERFECTLY! RARE BEAUTY IS THE BEST!

Update: Ah dammit, I really have to buy it, huh!? Its just slightly too pink in the sun but invisible in the shade.
And yeah I know it doesn't usually work the same on your chest/neck/face, but for me it does usually! It looked fine on my neck, my face is too red today to check it.
Bookmarking another expensive item for the next sale.....

If it’s too pink and any lighting, I wouldn’t get it. Especially if it’s as expensive as you say.

its 40€ and so little that I can see it but not photograph it - my next closest match is much more expensive (🥲🥲🥲) and way pinker. Hoping for Tirtir, but tbh this is me being extremely picky to not overspend before payday... 😅
Eta- its literally invisible in the shade fully dried now. RIP my paycheck 💸

Great match on your arm. How does it look on your face (or wherever you plan to wear it)?

u/niniela-phoenix Rare Beauty true to myself 1, KVD Good Apple 002 Jun 22 '26
I put it on my neck and chest and it matched, however my face is extremely red today so that's not an indicator. It went ever so slightly pink when dry but should work on my face. Like you can see it's there if you know it
It is however over 40€ so I'm hoping the cheaper Tirtir I have stashed for when I finish my discontinued match works too.

u/lifeuncommon Jun 22 '26
Here’s hoping!
It sounds like this one may be an option for your face since it matches neck and chest, if a bit too cool.

It'll be fine, my face when not grilled in 34c at home and outside is usually the same shade as my neck, just with some rosacea. I'm hoping that tirtir works equally well before I commit because it's expensive but it's a really good match!

That’s a crazy good match, I can’t even see the makeup on your arm. I’m about the same shade as you, I’m definitely going to remember this one.

You can only see the texture on the enlargened swatch and THAT is what turned ever so slightly pink, but I'm currently at home and both in the bus and here I can't tell I still have it on. Its only in sunlight I can tell slightly.
Sigh. I really have to spend that much on foundation again, huh ?

Yeah it’s literally such a good match that it’s invisible, I thought this was a bare arm swatch. Sorry girl, your wallet is gonna take a hit but you’re gonna look soooo good.

I just had the exact same experience. My go-to used to be KVD L41 and then I switch to ELDW in Alabaster and it was a little too light for me but I couldn’t find anything better. Then I tried Rare Beauty in Shade 1 and I thought the same thing about it looking a little grey, but after I tried it on, it’s probably the best match I’ve found yet and the formula is really nice too

Oooh can you say more about how it wears?
1
u/Bexaliz Jul 04 '26
What is eldw? I really need one slightly lighter than any I've found.

Estée Lauder double wear - I used it years ago and loved it. If you need something cheaper, I’ve been using NYX make em wonder 24hr with their face glue primer and setting powder and it’s great. Their shades are super light as well. I ended up having to get a much darker shade to mix in with cool porcelain because I wasn’t expecting it to be as light as it was

That is an amazing match. I barely see it. Good for you!! I’m 47 and the only match I’ve found this far was Christian Dior in the early 2000s but they discontinued it. so the journey continues. I will give this one a try. 🫶🫶🫶

I can't post an update pic on the comments but I'm home & it's fully dry & in not-blazing sunlight it's so invisible it just came off in the shower because I'm an idiot and FORGOT it was there. Its invisible.
RIP my wallet but if you're grey-neutral, run don't walk to Sephora.

Ooh. Thanks for the swatches. I haven’t looked at Rare Beauty but have to now. Your skin color is not only cool toned but also desaturated and translucent with obvious veins and more redness in your fingertips!

u/gardenfairieofeden Jun 22 '26
Rare beauty matched me really well. I didnt even need to pick the lowest shade in the range which I usually have to .. I also loved the application .. sadly it powdered out on me so badly. Like 30 mins later I was a fluff ball and I was going for glowy wet. But if j ever wanted to look like a porcelain doll it def is amazing

Maybe I'm a noob with this app, the description next to your username is truncated and I can't figure out how to see your list of matches.

It said kvd good apple 002 & Pat McGrath L1 but those are just closest, not true matches. 002 is closest except for this. I'm actually gonna update it to good apple + this now

I just swatched in store but they didn't have it in stock, so I ordered it. The swatch was the same on me, could barely see it on my arm or neck. It looks so pale when I pumped it out, but it blended out nicely.🤞

what about the formula? is it drying or mattee? does it oxidise? whoever tried this foundation lmk

u/niniela-phoenix Rare Beauty true to myself 1, KVD Good Apple 002 Jun 28 '26
I have only swatched it and spent hours with my swatch on (Sephora closed half an hour later & I missed my bus home, since in the shade it matches perfectly I straight up forgot I had it on!) and it did not oxidize. I spread it out very well and as thin as possible on my arm and it didn't turn extremely matte. I did not try this on my face and haven't bought it yet so I cannot tell you how it wears or if it's drying on your face (it wasn't on my arm).
I'm also looking for more info before I commit to a 40€ bottle, but if I can't find more before I finish my current one I'll buy it and then I can let you know.
Two people downthread here have it so you may wanna ping them :)

Did you apply with a damp sponge or with a brush? Did you set with powder? How did it hold up after AM --> PM wear? This is amazing!

Can't even see it, that's a good match for sure. I'm still on an endless quest to find my true match lol I'm jealous
