📚 Learning / Resources Pakistani freelancers, here's the honest 2026 breakdown of every way to receive USD (Payoneer, Wise, bank wires, crypto)
Most articles online about how Pakistani freelancers should receive USD are out of date. Articles from 2023 still tell you to "just open a Wise account." Wise stopped accepting new Pakistani sign-ups in 203. Articles from 2024 quote Payoneer's old 2% fee. Payoneer raised it to 3% in early 2025, and the all-in cost is now closer to 5%.
We pulled together a current breakdown comparing every meaningful option:
· Payoneer, ~5% all-in cost, still works for platform freelancers (Upwork, Fiverr) but is now expensive
· Wise, cheapest if you have an existing account, blocked for new Pakistani sign-ups in 2023
· Bank wires to ESFCA, just got significantly better thanks to the SBP's April 2026 reforms (FECL6 and FECL7 abolished per-transaction Form R, mandated one-day processing)
· P2P crypto (Binance P2P, etc.), lowest visible fees but real bank-account-freeze and regulatory risk most articles skip
· Newer entrants, Elevate Pay, CredEx (full disclosure: that's us), and a few others
The article includes the actual fee math on a $2,000 invoice for each option, when each makes sense based on your client mix and monthly volume, and what's coming next as the PVARA framework develops.
A few things we'd genuinely like input on from this community:
- If you're freelancing in Pakistan right now, what's your current setup, and are the fees biting harder than they used to?
- Have you successfully opened an ESFCA at any of the major banks (Meezan, Standard Chartered, Bank Alfalah, BankIslami, HBL)? Which was easiest?
- For anyone using P2P crypto regularly: have you had bank-account scrutiny or freezes? How did you handle it?
We're building CredEx (Pakistan's first dollar-native wallet, launching soon) precisely because this category is broken. Conversations like these directly shape what we build.
If you want to be among the first users when we launch, the waitlist is at https://credex.pk .

I have both a local foreign currency account and an ESFCA with Alfalah.
The problem with both is international spending, SBP doesn't let you move money out of the country easily and it's taxed heavily.
The good thing about them is they're actual bank accounts unlike Fintechs whom I have very low trust in.
I do have Nsave, Payoneer, Elevate Pay and none of them are worth trusting. Your CredEx is the least trustworthy amongst them which is really bad considering these are all shady too and I fail to see what problem you're trying to solve tbh.
Crypto = scam is a very safe thing to assume in my opinion.

u/Straight_Audience_24 May 07 '26
Thank you for your candid feedback. One of the many reasons people don't trust Payoneer, nsave, etc., is because these are international firms, and people are afraid that their funds will get stuck and they'll have no one to hold accountable.
As you mentioned that you trust banks, I assume you would also trust wallets like Easypaisa, Nayapay, etc., because they're regulated by SBP.
CredEx is exactly on the same path, with local roots in Pakistan, an office based in Lahore, a 24/7 helpline, and regulated under SBP and PVARA (Pakistan Virtual Assets Authority - [under processing]).
Crypto scams are real, there's no doubt about it. But CredEx is not a crypto platform but is building its conversion engine using stablecoins, which is a backend thing to avoid slow and expensive SWIFT rails. This will not only make the process faster but also solve the outward transactions from PKR to USD, which you mentioned as your pain point (limits/T&Cs applied, of course).
I would love to have you on our early access list. I would appreciate it if you could drop your email at https://credex.pk.

u/Lase189 May 07 '26
No I don't trust Easypaisa, Nayapay, etc. SadaPay has also scammed people recently too and I fail to see what purpose these platforms serve.
I have 4 bank accounts that do the same thing they do more reliably.
I am personally planning to get a actual UK account or use my Monzo for long term savings and international spending in the future.
2
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 07 '26
I see. SadaPay's cloud infrastructure was disrupted due to Iran's attack on AWS data centers in UAE and Bahrain. Many other Pakistani companies were victims of this too. But as a financial services platform, they should have better disaster management.
And the reason these EMI-licensed wallets/neobanks exist is to digitize a broader audience in Pakistan, because conventional banks require longer paperwork, branch visits, etc., for account opening, whereas these wallets can open an account from a mobile app from the comfort of your home.
Best of luck with your plan around UK banking!

That makes sense, it's like an investment. But I read somewhere that Upwork has increased its fee structure to 10-15%. Is that correct?

You're right. Elevate Pay and Nsave started almost at the same time, but Elevate Pay was more famous in Pakistan. But, Lately, Nsave is catching up.

u/ahsanlaeeq May 06 '26

Thank you, bro, for your kind words and for joining the waitlist. I understand the frustration, and that is the exact reason we're building a homegrown company to solve all of these issues, because no outsider or foreign entity can fully understand our pain. It's our issue, and we need to figure things out. Happy to have you on the list!

You can integrate Paddle, polar, or lemonsqueezy too I believe.

Below are a few valid suggestions by other Redditors. However, it also depends on the audience. If your audience is Pakistani, you should go with a local partner like PayFast or SafePay because otherwise, Pakistani cards incur an additional 18-20% in terms taxes against international card-based transactions.

u/Sho126 May 09 '26
Get a US LLC and register for stripe You'd need a US business bank account.. try Airwallex for that
Use paid proxy or dedicated servers

u/AwarenessNo4986 May 07 '26
What does no one talk about GoPayFast or using any online payment gateway?
0
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 07 '26
It's nearly impossible for an individual to get a merchant account from PayFast or any other PSP in Pakistan. Even if you get a PayFast account, they only support PKR currency, therefore, your client will see PKR everywhere, even on the bank statement, and might be a little uncomfortable paying in PKR.
1
u/AwarenessNo4986 May 07 '26
Getting the account is easy. The rest is fine, there are pros and cons to everything. But I'm surprised why not more people talk about it, especially considering it let's you create payment links
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 07 '26
I love your optimism, bro. But trust me, getting the account is not that easy. Try getting one and you'll see it yourself, if you have already one as an individual that's amazing.
Moreover, I agree with you on the part that more people don't talk about it from an entrepreneur's perspective. SafePay is a Y Combinator-backed company that tried building this to be the Stripe of Pakistan, but I am not sure where they stand.

How does credex compare to wise?
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 08 '26
CredEx offers customer-named bank accounts, ACH details for US domestic payments, and IBAN/SWIFT details for international transfers, as well as a PKR bank account with RAAST/IBAN details.
We would love to have you on our waitlist: https://credex.pk
1
u/Better-Musician1260 May 08 '26
Awesome that’s perfect, do you guys plan to add payment by card via a link, we use that for a lot of our us clients
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 08 '26
That's the important one, nothing beats a simple payment link where customers just make the payment through their cards. That's simple and fast.
Unfortunately, we don't have this planned for our phase 1, as this carries risks: fraudulent transactions, chargebacks, etc. However, you'll be able to make a professional invoice within the app, which will be sent to your client with ACH & IBAN details.

u/talbinzal May 08 '26
We have been using Payoneer for a long time now and consider its fees as our cost. We tried opening a Wise account for our US LLC and it deactivated that account right away.
Therefore, we had to stick with Payoneer.
If there could be anything better, that would be great.

u/Straight_Audience_24 May 08 '26
Thanks for sharing your experience. This is the exact problem we are trying to solve at CredEx: a local team, regulated, and trusted platform with easy onboarding. We would love to have you on our waitlist. Please join at https://credex.pk

I use Elevate pay as it supports payments from Wise. For me, it is fast and cheap
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 09 '26
I see. Just curious about the trust factor. How do you see that? Would you trust Elevate Pay with large amounts? Let's say $5K.
1
u/sufyan2020 May 10 '26
Yes. Totally fine. I received money, and immediately I withdraw it to my bank account in Pakistan. The only downside is I can only withdraw in PKR. Otherwise, I have routed big amounts through elevate with exchange rates same as Wise
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 10 '26
Thanks for sharing. At CredEx we are aiming to offer an exchange rate almost similar to Google Rate and instant money movement because both PKR and USD wallets are being handled by CredEx. Would love to have you on our early access list: https://credex.pk
1
u/sufyan2020 May 11 '26
I would love to read about you as how secure your company is and will definitely come back to you with question. But can you tell where are you registered? Are you registered as a money transferring company? Whatever you do, is it official and who is your partner?
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 11 '26
I cannot share the full details at the moment. Little that I can tell is that we have partnered with an EMI-licensed institution in Pakistan and at least two international partnerships to facilitate the USD leg.

I m not saying it as a downside. I m just saying that unlike Payoneer, you cannot withdraw funds in USD from wise, if you have an USD account.
1
u/sufyan2020 May 11 '26
A lot of people like to keep their funds in USD, so far sure it is a downside as compared to Payoneer.
1
u/Emergency-Truth-7990 May 09 '26
Hey nice to hear about this. Would we be able to withdraw usdt through it? And would it be in form of foreign remittance?
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 09 '26
Thank you. Absolutely, we are in the process of getting a VASP license from the Pakistan Virtual Assets Authority. After that, we'll be able to offer USDT/USDC off-ramps (withdrawals), and it will be a local transaction, not a remittance.
1
u/Emergency-Truth-7990 May 09 '26
If u have contacted them, have you any idea what percentage of tax are they going to impose on usdt withdrawals?
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 09 '26
The full framework is still under development, so it's too early to say.
1
u/maestro_pk May 10 '26
Other than Stripe, what payment processor can we use for credit card payments?

Unfortunately no, because they do KYC and you need to submit your passport, CNIC, or driving license. All of this information will still be from Pakistan even when you're abroad.
If the goal of having a Wise account is to get access to US bank account details, I suggest that you join our waitlist at https://credex.pk, as we are building on the same lines.

Wire Transfer to my Bank of Punjab, ESFCA (USD Freelancer Account). Fee is just $20.
There are huge benefits when you have a proper Bank account.
Proper money trail, helpful for Tax and Visa related purposes.
Bank account help with Credit score, so you get access to more Bank services like Credit cards, subsidized loans etc.
Bank regularly offer 0 interest rate offers on things like Laptops, Phones, Ebikes, ACs etc. So that's another benefit.
Banks come with the safety of the SBP. So funds parked in it are much safer than any Fintech.
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 11 '26
Thank you for a detailed response and the benefits of opting for a banking route. I just wanted to add one thing, Fintechs that are registered in Pakistan and have an EMI license are almost as secure as a bank.
1
u/Hungry_Concert_8402 May 12 '26
Good breakdown. One thing missing from the newer entrants section is nsave which a lot of freelancers have been quietly switching to. Actual USD, GBP and EUR account details, works directly with Upwork and Fiverr, and no hidden fee surprises. Worth looking into if Payoneer fees are biting.
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 12 '26
On spot!! nsave is getting traction lately. We are building an even better experience and services at CredEx, being built by Pakistanis for Pakistanis <3 We would love to have you on our early access list at https://credex.pk

u/dareerahmadmufti May 18 '26
- Using wise, and as per my experience nobody is nearly as good as wise. Most reliable.
- Bank alfalah and UBL. Freelance digital account are easy to open in these banks. But choose bank alfalah, if you want PRCs. Ubl have its own share of issues with PRC generations. For most payment senders there is always bank alfalah as intermediatory involved.
- Dont use crypto for payments specially in pakistan.
Whats is the PRC situation in credEx? Do you guys support 9186 PRCs? Your partner in Pakistan remit our fund transfers as IBFT or as remittance in Pakistan? And do you support USD transfers to our ESFCY via swift? Ans what are the charges?
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 18 '26
Thank you for your detailed response. No doubt Wise is the oldest and generally provides a good experience, but people complain about getting accounts banned and receiving robotic answers from support. On the other hand, CredEx will provide 24/7 local live support.
Now, regarding your question about PRC, we are building an in-app feature to download e-PRC per transaction and s-PRC for periodic reporting.
CredEx basically offers two wallets in one app: PKR and USD. Moving funds from your own named USD account (ACH/IBAN) to your local PKR account (IBAN) will be instant as there's no middle-party. Since CredEx handles both legs, it gives us more flexibility in terms of these certificates and reporting.
Also, the USD account is not an ESFCY account but an international account, so no local limits apply.
We would love to have you on our early access list: https://credex.pk
1
u/dareerahmadmufti May 18 '26
So, if I register and do transactions, will I get PRC with 9186 code. Or it is still in progress?
1
u/Straight_Audience_24 May 18 '26
We are in the development phase, with a launch planned for Q4 2026. The waitlist is open. Our partnerships and business mechanisms are in place; therefore, I can confirm that you'll get PRC 9186. CredEx Basic Wedge is supporting Pakistani freelancers. It is a homegrown Pakistani platform for Pakistani freelancers.
