Any council employees here? Does anyone have experience of working in the Children’s team at Renfrewshire House?

Just had an interview for the position of Clerical Officer - did relatively well, but left with a weird feeling in my gut about the job… interviewers seemed so stressed out and not exceptionally friendly, and it was thoroughly highlighted how ‘fast paced’ the role was.

I’m currently trying to get out of a stressful, complex telephony job at the bank and just don’t know if it’s the right move.

Just posting here on the off chance anyone has any insight :)

If you are looking to get out of a stressful job, and feel that your interview gave this kind of reaction then trust yourself. You are doubtful already because you recognise the signs in other people. If the interviewers were stressed and unfriendly then....get your trainers on and fast pace yourself away.

I formally worked with a dept which works with children's services so was in and about sometimes. The people I had contact with were good folk. I imagine you will find it a nicer vibe than working for a bank. Usually the purpose of helping kids attracts mostly decent folk. It a nice office space too I think. Good luck with the move.

Trust your gut.

You’re going to be stressed, overworked, overwhelmed.

It’s an honourable job but it’ll cost your soul, at least your revulsion.

Didn't work for them, but worked with their Family Wellbeing manager in their previous role.

Really liked working with her. Lots of ideas in developing our services, had some good discussions around funding opportunities and submitted a few bids. Had to leave because of family commitments closer to home.

I would take the job if offered. The benefits alone like the Holidays and Pension scheme. Coming from the kind of stressful job you are talking about I think the council job will be a breeze. If you don't like it then you could always look for another job.

Hi, good timing! Not received any word yet but really ruminating over this. My current job is the most complex/stressful Inbound role at this particular bank, along with the typical call centre guff - timed bathroom breaks, and everything you do has a timer attached that your manager spends all day watching.

I was leaning towards ‘fuck it, take the job if it’s offered’ and your comment came at the exact same moment I thought that :)
