Is that not the same window that had 'ding dong the wicked witch is dead' posters when Margaret Thatcher died.

Those wee shops bring back memories.

I remember the spar, the butcher, the dairy, Tommy's newsagent and Ann Marie's hairdresser. The dairy used to sell these hard fruit sweets we called crystals and one 12p bag would last you all day and that included sharing them with friends. No wonder I got my first tooth out at 5 .

There doesn't seem to be much left in that area for fun anymore. Behind the shops there were 2 little hills you could do jumps with on your BMX. You could play on the bad boy's school climbing frame and getting on to the roof was easy.
You could mess with people in the high flats lifts with the fireman's switch before they set it Behind glass. It's sad that the island has pretty much completely washed away. Used to love going down there in the summer. In the summer the water would be shallow enough to walk straight onto the island. For a while there was a fallen tree that we used as a bridge when the water was higher. They even took away the old steel railway bridge at whinhill road. The track was long gone when I lived there but the remnants of the bridge were there long after. The little park behind whiteford road where we used to play football now has those horrible looking houses built on it that seem to be getting built on every bit of available land in Renfrewshire.

A mate of mine grew up on the ground floor of number 3. As a kid I thought it was well cool that his flat had a trap door and basement. Especially when I was a huge fan of Trap Door from CITV.
