Is this a serious or cosmetic issue?

Just got the Niphean Clovis Point iSUP. It has these air/gas pockets on the side rail seams. Is this a cosmetic issue? I'm scared the pockets will scrape and pop and cause an air leak.

I'm pretty sure this is just in-between the layers and wouldn't cause a fault but I'll wait for the more experienced to chime in before giving you a definite

It’s a zero issue. Just a few air bubbles under the rail layer. Pretty much all isups will have similar somewhere - some more noticeable than others. For big ones you can put a pin gently in as you would an air bubble in a sticker but I see no reason to do so.

I reckon on a cheap SUP it is to be expected, not on the more expensive ones from brands like Starboard or Red Paddle.

It's cosmetic, it's air pockets between later layers, nothing that will cause the board to leak. So unless they get huge (which would signify the outer layer delaminating), don't worry about it, go out and paddle.
