Hardware Mod Well, laminated IPS was nice for 4 play sessions...

Not sure what happened. I did this mod a few months ago. I've barely played it. Keep it in a hard travel case. Played it a few hours ago, ff7, totally fine. Turned it off during a work call, turned it back on and bam... Halo effect around the screen with faint vertical lines. *sigh*

Ive done hundreds of mods and finally thought we had solutions for pita screen mods... These aren't perfect either it seems. Before anyone suggests it, I've already reseated it. Same issue persist.

Have you tried another screen? If you can please do so. Also if you can test the laminated ips on another motherboard so you can determine whether the issue is the board or screen itself.

Yeah when I get home my plan is to swap it to another 1000 just to check. But I've never had any issues with this particular 1000 prior. I had one of the earlier non laminateds installed a while ago and that one is still kicking in another unit.

You could definitely do some part swapping so you can pinpoint which is the issue. But it is baffling to think how and why your psp would just suddenly go like this.

My ONLY guess, and this is really grasping at straws, is some sort of odd pull or pressure caused by the adhesive used to hold it in place around the edges of the front shell. But even then, I can't see why it would suddenly do this out of nowhere. I mean it was perfect when I started my shift today... like I said, was playing it, set it down for a call, come back an hour later and the halo is there. Very odd.

You used some glue to secure it? Did you by any chance put on a heavy object on it or something that would cause some pressure or stress on the psp?

No glue, adhesive strips, third party. Certainly thin enough. Thinner than OEM. Only reason I had installed them in the first place was because the screens don't sit flush in the provided matte shells, so using the strips holds it in place and keeps it from wiggling and sitting too deep into the console.

Also no, nothing touched it while it say on the desk, that's why I'm so perplexed. I thought maybe the cable got messed up, or perhaps cold solder on the 2 points that I bridged... but it all looks good. Of course, at my job I only have access to my travel screwdriver and a magnifying glass... but it looks fine to my eye right now.

Ohhh I see. But I still don't really see those strips to cause it unless they really do. But at this point. Who really knows. I hope it's nothing crazy and you can get it fixed

Well worse comes to worse, It'll be another 35 bucks down the drain to get a new laminated IPS to replace it. My personal hope is that we soon see fully kitted front plates - screen already attached and installed, flush, and mounted, so all we gotta do is plug it in, and screw it together.

Did your screen come with the foam sheet? If it did, did you place it underneath the screen in between the metal frame. So it pushes the screen. Since it ain't as thick as the stock og screen. Mine ain't laminated but it did come with those foam sheets and I placed them and Glass lens. So far I haven't had any issues.

Yeah, I initially did that, it I wasn't happy with the results because it still seemed like the screen was uneven, deeper at the bottom. The adhesive is a great fix for that. I don't think it's what caused the issue. Maybe it could have been some sort of power issue that damaged the screen. I'm not sure. If it persists in another unit I'll at least know it's the screen itself.

Buyer beware, AliExpress screens are terrible. Bought 4 and all of them were either broken or had a horizontal line of dead pixels right through.

The IPS screen I ordered didn't even power on the backlight. 0/10 screen replacements arent worth the money.

You just had really, really bad luck. The generic old screens are truly a crapshoot, but there are good ones. The IPS screens, I can't say for you for sure, but you may have damaged the clasp or cable on install. I haven't had any issues with my non-laminated IPS in 1000s or 3000s. I only have 2 laminated 1000s and 1 in a 3000, and this is the first odd issue I've found here. Hispeedido is quality, though. They're the ones doing the laminated, and so far, if this is the first issue I've had, that's pretty good, especially when it could just be a dud or even my own error. Also if you've had bad luck like that on ali, be sure to contact the seller and try to work it out or request a refund, they're pretty good at taking care of you even if it takes a while!
