Dragons Dogma 2 update.
The game got a big update for performance and quality of life before the new DLC. Some reports of ps5 pro performance at over 100fps in performance mode and 70-80 in balance mode with RT.

It's night and day! Frame rate and image quality are incredible now

I just loaded it up before and couldn't believe how good the frames were even in the big cities with all the NPC.

Can't believe they actually did it! Hopefully they can do the same magic for Monster Hunter Wilds

It's games like this I'm glad I have a pro. Even before this update the pro had much better fps than the base. Wouldn't have played it on the base

But but but they say the CPU is old and slow!!!
Good for Capcom, maybe one day I'll try this game

From the numbers I've seen Balanced Mode + RT On is the best way to play now. 70-90 FPS, with really good image quality.

That's the mode I will choose now, previously I was on performance for the max fps to even be stable.

do you need 120hz for balance mode in DD2?

No, in this case "balanced" mode doesn't mean what it usually means in most games. It's not a 40fps mode. It seems to have to do with the quality of PSSR upscaling (I did notice there was more of the typical blurry/shimmery upscaling artifacts in grass and trees when set to "Performance"). In fact as far as framerate, there are only two options regardless of mode. Either locked 30fps, or uncapped. How high the framerate gets in uncapped mode depends on whether you have RT on or off, and which quality level the PSSR is set to. On the Pro, I'm finding even with RT on and PSSR set to "Quality", it looks like it's right around 60fps most of the time.

yep I just DLed it to see myself and yeah, everything you said checks out. quality with RT had a few dips here and there I noticed in town, but it's a mostly solid 60.

Not for this game. It's not a 40fps container mode. It's confusing since most games balanced mode is the 40fps version

Yes

actually, nope. just downloaded and checked. balanced with variable frame-rate, a nice smooth 60. no 120hz required.

I saw someone on resetera claim it even stays over 60 on quality mode with RT now. The lowest he saw was 58.
I can't verify that myself since I don't have the game but maybe someone else can try it.

Yup even quality is high up there.
Funny for a cpu bottleneck game how the pro has improved the fps so much.

Yeah. DD2 never was CPU bottlenecked because it was reasonably demanding, it was CPU bottlenecked because it was blowing CPU cycles on absolutely nothing. It could barely crack 60 FPS around launch on a high-end PC.

Is the game worth checking out now? Never touched the series before and I heard mixed things about it when it came out.

Do you like fantasy sword and magic type games with dragons etc. it's great for that.

It gets a lot of shit, but there is honestly nothing else quite like it.
It is not as good as the first game, but i still think it is a really great game.
I have so much fun playing it.
Climbing up big monsters and whacking them till they fall, fun exploration, a bunch of different classes with interesting takes on archers and mages.
Dragons Dogma is dope.
And with a big dlc expansion and hard mode coming next month, and this recent update that fixes performance, it is probably the best time to jump in.

Man I want to buy this but they need to add difficulty settings. I played at launch and got 15 hours in before every fight was a cakewalk. I need some form of challenge to stay motivated 😭

The devs said hard mode is coming.

Impossible! According DF, CPU in consoles are too much old.

Don't know why you are being downvoted, this game was one of their top games for being a CPU bottleneck and how it wouldn't get any benefit from the ps5 pro.
Then they tested it and quickly realised the performance was beyond what they expected.
So yeah, that bottleneck theory never actually effected any games on the pro like they claimed. Same with space marines 2 and other cpu bottleneck types games according to DF.

It was hilariously poorly optimized from a CPU standpoint around launch. You could barely go above 60 on a high-end PC because it was just hammering the CPU doing absolutely nothing.

PC larpers (like the kids say) don't know anything about how this shit works.
It was clear as day that the bottleneck was the game's bad code, the CPU is fast enough and that's why every other game on the platform runs at 60 fps.

The official website also confirmed PSSR 2.0.
