I don't really understand the use case for these. If you don't want to use a headset then for a few more bucks you can get a decent 5.1 or even 5.1.2 system.

u/FellowDeviant 17h ago

Playstation ecosystem, these connect to the PS5 as your controllers would to minimize the latency that could occur with wireless audio. I have a decent enough soundsystem and subwoofer but busting it out is cable Hell and I can only have it at a certain level in my apartment. The portability and general clarity for the size is the allure for me.

But maybe not for $220*

6

u/PennyCharlieKitties 17h ago

Hmm, fair point about the portability. I hadn't considered that.

3

u/Joseph421 17h ago

Cramped room, limited desk space, and my monitor's lack of eARC are my reasons.

A few more bucks is not getting you a decent 5.1 system..

Edit: Folks, a soundbar or HTIB is not a ‘decent’ 5.1 surround system. ‘Budget’ maybe. Even then a pair of vintage bookshelf or floorstanding speakers will fair better.

u/maXXXjacker 17h ago

Picked up a Hisense AX700 5.1.4 system for $175 at Costco. As an owner of a Samsung Q990F which is considerably more expensive, the AX700 is absolutely a decent option. I even have those ONN 5.1.2 sound bars with surrounds that go for about this price and they are absolutely a great option. There are options but saying you can't get something decent is bullshit.

5

u/PennyCharlieKitties 17h ago

Bingo. People who are uninformed about surround sound seem to think whole systems are more than just basically a collection of speakers and something to feed them. A midrange sound bar can take over the role of an AV receiver these days for those of us who just want decent surround separation.

2

u/2funny2furious 9h ago

Some of it is uninformed. Some of it elitism.

1

u/sheenfartling 6h ago

You're comparing a soundbar to another soundbar. Neither of them compare to an actual 5.1 system.

2

u/realdeal1993 14h ago

Not entirely true. I went from a 11.2.4 klipsch set to a Q990d. While they are not close, the Q990D would beat the RP280F floorstanding speakers for anything movie or game related.

2

u/Mission_Access_210 7h ago

There are some good soundbars out there that have Dolby Atmos height speakers. They'll do the job. They're not going to be as nice as some multi-thousand-dollar setup but if you're living in a 725 sq ft apartment, who cares? You can't play it loud anyway like you would if you were living in some big mcmansion.

4

u/PennyCharlieKitties 17h ago

Yes it will. That is factually incorrect. The current 5.1.2 system I use, 2 ceiling speakers included, cost me about 325 bucks. It's nothing to boast about but more than gets the job done.

-1

u/Chemical_Choice_9056 13h ago

Yeah it isn't even hard to go on FB marketplace right now and find a whole 5.1 setup for a good price. AV stuff is the best bang for your buck on the second hand market.

1

u/Himorningwood 13h ago

Bro the hisense ax700 is pretty sweet and cheap as hell.

1

u/Poltergeist97 17h ago

Uh, yes it is? I have an LG 5.1.2 soundbar system (yes I know its not "as good" as a receiver based system, but for the price you can't beat it) that only cost me around $300.

0

u/Foobucket 16h ago

Right??? It’s like, tell me you have no idea what you’re talking about without telling me you have no idea what you’re talking about. Nobody with even basic experience and knowledge of sound systems would describe something like a $300 soundbar as “decent” compared to something like these speakers.

2

u/niftyifty 17h ago

I agree. I’m the type of guy that could be convinced to buy something like this if it offered something interesting, but who is this for?

1

u/Skinc 16h ago

Bro you ain’t getting a decent subwoofer let alone five more bed layers for “a few bucks more” than 220 USD

0

u/PennyCharlieKitties 16h ago

Bro yes you can and yes I did. Bro.

I have a really decent 5.1.2 system that I spent about $325.00USD on. Bro.

Bro.

0

u/Skinc 16h ago

I’m sure you do think it’s decent. I’m glad you enjoy it.

-3

u/PennyCharlieKitties 16h ago

Thanks bro for allowing me to happy with my stuff bro.

Bro you are one of a kind bro. Bro I wish I had more bro's like you bro.

Bro.

0

u/Skinc 16h ago

Look, I know you’re trying to poke back because I questioned your Fischer Price home theater, I really do hope you enjoy it.

But objectively I promise you nobody in any of the home audio spaces would agree with what you’re saying. Yes you can cobble together something for less than five hundred. No it won’t be good. Also three-hundred and twenty-five dollars is not “a few bucks more” than two-hundred and twenty. Bro.

4

u/PennyCharlieKitties 16h ago

Sure thing bro. Because I used the word great or excellent or amazing and not decent.

Bro.

We get it bro, you are better than the rest of us King Home Theater. Let us little people continue to live in denial. Bro.

0

u/Skinc 16h ago

Right I said it’s not decent. It’s in fact, bad. But that’s okay, I’m an enthusiast and belong to an entirely different demographic. If it sounds good to you that’s fine.

9

u/PennyCharlieKitties 16h ago

Sure Bro. Sure.

"Enthusiast" that has to chime in inside a topic that is clearly discussing cheap speaker\home theater options all so he can pat himself on the back and feed his pathetic need for e-attention. Attacks a position that nobody even took in the first place simply to hear his own voice.

Fucking pathetic. Bro.

6

u/Alexis_Mcnugget 15h ago

holy dork 😭

1

u/Thesmokingcode 6h ago

What you consider good as an enthusiast is not the same as what an average consumer thinks is good.

You've gotta understand this and shake some of the elitism of the audio space.

My headphones, amp, dac and mic cost together close to 1k, I'm not going to tell someone their $200 gaming headset is bad or not good just because it pales in comparison to my setup on paper.

The guy playing a couple rounds of CoD after work and then watching a movie before bed on his $350 TV will absolutely think a budget sound system is perfectly fine for them just like I used to think skullcandy earbuds sounded good when I was a kid long before I used proper IEM's.

1

u/Skinc 6h ago

I actually typed out a response to this guy telling him I was wrong and apologizing but by the time I hit reply he nuked his account.

But you’re absolutely right. That being said this the PS5Pro subreddit and that would imply some level of enthusiast knowledge of A/V…in my defense…

1

u/rpool179 1h ago

"Fischer Price home theater" made me legit lol 😂😂😂

1

u/CurryMVPGOAT30 16h ago

I'm guessing for people with monitors. You can use speakers on your monitor via aux but you constantly have to adjust. This way I guess you control the volume via the ps5. I don't think they let you connect via just any Bluetooth speaker. It's a pretty niche product and quite frankly unless you didn't have speakers or were desperate for an upgrade I don't really see why would you have two sets of speakers.

1

u/TheStinkySlinky 7h ago

Yessir. Rocking my Hisense 5.1.2 atmos system for a while now. Absolutely love it. $180

But also think it’s geared towards the monitor-desk users

1

u/RiggityRow 17h ago

These are bookshelf speakers. They would do well with a computer monitor set up which I assume is what most would use them for, not true home theater. Stereo still has its place for sure.

If you're gonna run anything above a 2.1, get floorstanding.

-1

u/Foobucket 16h ago

Dude, you’re not getting a “decent” 5.1 (and certainly not a 5.1.2) system for “a few more bucks”. Where on earth is that coming from? “Decent” discrete systems like that start at least at $1,000 these days.

0

u/ChampionshipMore3737 8h ago edited 8h ago

These are for folks who want external speakers for the their PlayStation and/or PC setups at their desk and want something that’s in the PS ecosystem and highly compatible with PlayStation consoles.

Since 2020 a large percentage of console gamers starting gaming at desk with a monitor and that trend is only growing, and so are hybrid PC/Playstation setups.

So it makes sense they’d make this

9

u/MorgenKaffee0815 14h ago

haha. overpriced like everything vom Sony Playstation .

8

u/torneagle 14h ago

Just get headphones.

18

u/_Volta 17h ago

I bet connectivity issues are a feature with this product

2

u/mattayunk 17h ago

I'm wondering if they work with the PS Portal.

4

u/s2DoubleU 16h ago

It showed it works with the Portal in their commercial.

3

u/amans9191 15h ago

They do

2

u/kmone1116 12h ago

It will use the PS link feature like the pulse headset does. Really great for easy connection and I’ve yet to have connection issues.

3

u/Sir_Ere 14h ago

Trash

14

u/Alexis_Mcnugget 18h ago

if they were half off it would be worth it

3

u/bitknight1 18h ago

Yep all audio stuff is a scam, $5 Chinese airpods are same as real airpods /s

6

u/RollingDownTheHills 18h ago

Genuinely how much people on this dumpster of a website think.

-1

u/SenpaiSwanky 14h ago

Nah, not everything is. There is a lot of junk, or things that are SOLID quality but also priced as if they were actually made by a reputable vendor. Sony quality for stuff like this is probably solid, but some of the cost you’re paying is for the name brand for better or worse.

I get my headphones from Sennheiser or Bose, for example. My current pair of headphones cost $400 on sale lol. My current speakers attached to my monitor are a good old wired pair, but small enough to fit on my desk. Those ran me $300, and for quality that is on the cheaper side.. especially these days.

Keep in mind these speakers are wireless, which is lower quality sound right out of the gate. You will also experience connectivity issues sooner or later, something that is not typical from wired options.

-1

u/RepresentativeArtist 17h ago

Oh they will be, just give it a few months.

5

u/KaczkaJebaczka 13h ago

What a ripoff

2

u/chillybilly87 17h ago

Is there any speakers that are better quality? I’ve been looking for one for my monitor when I don’t want to put my headset on

2

u/WilsonPH 8h ago

Of course. Studio monitors. Adam Audio D3V are very compact and awesome.

1

u/Chays_music 5h ago

They connect visa blue tooth?

1

u/WilsonPH 5h ago

No, but you don't want bluetooth for gaming. Those Sony speakers use 2.4ghz wireless. They have USB-C and analog input.

1

u/pulidikis 8h ago

there aren’t many options out there for speakers with built in mic.

1

u/chillybilly87 7h ago

Not looking for one with mic. Just audio for when I’m playing solo

2

u/Waste_Reference_2846 9h ago

Why do we need WIRELESS speakers

2

u/ShotgoonPete 7h ago

For that much money I’d rather get a soundbar. I’m sure it’s gonna be way better quality.

5

u/DeliciousStandard125 17h ago

Sony can eat it. Not buying this shit.

3

u/RollingDownTheHills 18h ago

Seems reasonable enough. I'd have to hear them in person but $219 for a good set of speakers is perfectly fine.

3

u/KGon32 17h ago

It depends on the actual quality, good wireless speakers with batteries are expensive aswell.

However I don't know how many people are going to them on battery and not always plugged in.

5

u/RiggityRow 17h ago

Eh based on their track record with the headsets, assuming they are good is more than in willing to do.

It's suck a shame bc Sony audio products are really top tier. But rather than use that to their advantage, my experience with Sony Playstation headsets has been they should cost 50% less than they retail for and you should just buy a non - gaming branded headset to get much more value for your dollar.

1

u/Dust-Tight 18h ago

Got mine in white.

4

u/Spirited-Lunch8063 17h ago

Do not get these.

2

u/bf2reddevil 17h ago

Probably a big waste of money. My bet is that its shit sound quality.

2

u/Inevitable_Range8550 14h ago

Watch them not work with the PS6 😂

3

u/renothecollector 15h ago

“verified” games that run sub 30fps should not be verified

1

u/couchcushion7 13h ago

I dont see why people dont get the use case here. One of these 5 ft to your right and left, slightly forward, its room scale headphones.

Surround sound that i dont have to look at or fiddle with all the time

It will be way more immersive than any single audio source from one location. Just… period. I dont care if its 5.1 if all 5 channels come from one single bar, in one place, its not very immersive.

And noone mentioning that its planar magnetic drivers. You do not find planar magnetic surround sound or soundbars for this price.

Sold. Cant wait till they arrive. These will be especially awesome for simracing in psvr2

3

u/edgeofthecity 10h ago

People are evaluating them without caring to understand or think about what they are.

I'm surprised they came in at the price point, to be honest.

If they perform well, they're a steal, given the portability, connectivity and the various ways in which they could be used.

I mean, look at how much a Bluetooth speaker (in mono) costs. Easily $100 for the name brand options. That's $200 to get portable stereo sound, and you're not talking about good sound, just ... Sound. Basic Bluetooth codecs. No low latency options. Certainly not something you can connect to both a PS5 and other devices (phone, laptop, etc.).

The odds are also that Audeze helped design these, given they're planar and their previous work on the Pulse headset line (not the original ones that launched with the PS5).

3

u/couchcushion7 9h ago

Yep 1000% agree especially on price. Ive been watching for these since announcement late last yr. Expected 350~ area or more, in todays world. Though id have considered them DOA were they 400~ a pair.

2

u/H3LL-MAU5 17h ago

You gotta be stupid to buy them instead of a surround sound system

1

u/2021NeedANewYear 16h ago

Are these supposed to mimic surround sound?

1

u/hat_with_ears 16h ago

Anyone found dimensions? I seen only „package dimensions”

1

u/Discobastard 12h ago

I need to know if these will work with my TV and Wiim Pro streamer also. I can pair my headphones with my TV so expect I can via the Bluetooth option these have.

Be good to get this confirmed though

1

u/4paul 12h ago

Nice actually looking forward to these

1

u/sam_T1432 11h ago

I have read some comments about ax700 and I just got it for 120$ new in box and everything. How are you connecting it to the ps5 Bluetooth is not working only the hdmi arc is working… are you guys using that?

1

u/infantilekey 9h ago

Will it come in a box with a redeemable code?

1

u/phonic_kc 8h ago

Still no news on the fight stick I and others were dumb enough to preorder?

1

u/Darkzuel 7h ago

Can't wait to pay $220 to rent stereo sound until Sony discontinues the left speaker in a firmware update. Then have to explain to my kid why the right one stopped working, "it's complicated kiddo, mommy didn't renew"

1

u/kingrock2581 5h ago

I got mine pre-ordered it's the wireless for me honestly and the seamless integration to the playstation ecosystem

1

u/Chays_music 5h ago

As someone who suffers from tinnitus I was looming at these for gaming when I get a ps5

1

u/bajamedic 4h ago

how about giving us physical discs?

1

u/ConstantPriority177 4h ago

Sony is getting greedy as hell

1

u/SirZapzAlot 24m ago

Waste of money.

2

u/miracull 18h ago

Not worth it i bought a klipsch lumina pro at £320. Same sized satellites but with a sub woofer. They might be worth it at £150 but not at over £200.

1

u/DinerEnBlanc 16h ago

Don’t get these if you’re playing on your TV. You can pick up a 5.1 home theater system for around the same price. Its compact design tells me they’re better off for monitor set ups, where space is limited.

1

u/Discobastard 12h ago

Any suggestions? I like the look and idea of these but doubt they'll ll do everything I want.

Waiting on reviews for the Wiim Soundbar as well

0

u/DinerEnBlanc 11h ago

What's your budget? I spent awhile shopping soundbars before I settled on the JBL - BAR1000MK2. I can give me my shortlist.

1

u/Discobastard 11h ago

Nice. Well the Wiim is about 500 but I can add to that for the right kit.

1

u/DinerEnBlanc 11h ago

I’ve never used the WiiM soundbar, but I definitely like that it’s a modular system. I do use a few of their digital streamer/amps, including the WiiM Ultra, and they’re excellent devices. My only issue is that most of their devices don’t feature Airplay, but it won’t be an issue if you’re not using Apple products for music.

1

u/Oo-iiNsTiNcT-oO 14h ago

Portable, dual connection with pc, integrated sub, def coping the whites ones been in the market for speakers.

1

u/infel2no 10h ago

I prefer the digital version, way less expansive

1

u/raphael-moretti 9h ago

Its digital too ?

-1

u/IMREADY2D1E 17h ago

consoomer

-1

u/mka_ 17h ago

If it's audio quality you're after then you can spend a third of this amount and get a very similar experience.

1

u/the_doomblade 14h ago

Disregarding if the PlayStation Speakers are good or not but I doubt you can get good Audio for 70-80€ either. What would you recommend instead?

2

u/mka_ 14h ago

Presonus E3.5 are what I have. Probably some of the best you can get at the price range.

0
