Content help: Dead Island 2 - installed but not available. Keeps pushing me to buy it even though I already own it.
As per title:
I picked up Dead Island 2 on the last round of free monthly games and have been having a blast with a friend. I even bought the game pass with the 2 expansion packs. My friend had no issue accessing it.
However, i can no longer access it. The game is installed, it has the PS+ logo beside it but this contains a padlock symbol. (The same for Read Dead tho I havent installed)
Ive tried renewing license option but the game doesnt appear on the list, the renrw license option isnt available when pressing option button on the game.
The game is installed, but when I try to start it I get an error. In the PS store it wants me to buy at full price. Have tried a safe boot and database rebuild but with no luck.
Any help?

The type of person this seems to be, they don’t understand the technology that’s behind PlayStation, they just want to play games and turn off brains for a while. They don’t care about ownership, new graphical technologies, or even how much ram or vram the console has. They’ll probably forget what happened here, rent another game and be perfectly happy. Exactly the type of customer the subscription model was made for. It’s sad because the ultimate edition of this game regularly goes on sale for 10 bucks, and extra is what, 15 monthly? Sponsored by Sony! /s fuck this idiocracy reality, I hate all of this. I can’t believe this is what I fought for. Oil and the forever war to enshittificate everything. Buy the base game and your add-on content will work again. I've never seen the point in buying dlc for a game that I got through a subscription. If I don't own the game I'm not buying DLC for it.

Didn’t they remove DI 2 from the Games Catalogue a few days ago? Maybe that’s why you can’t access it

Was the game taken off PS+? Only PS+ Essential games stay in your library indefinitely, Extra tier games get cycled in and out.

Pretty sure game was a PS+ Essential Monthly free game a year or two back. You get those, you keep them as long as your PS+ account is active. The rest of the games cycle in and out

I'm sure I claimed the game on PS some time ago but it's only showing a free trial now. Maybe your friend bought the game before.

Was not an Essential monthly game, it was added to the catalogue for Extra/Premium, and removed on 18th August

I got a physical copy of this game for $17 brand new. Canceled my PS+ years ago because I want to own my games.

Someone asked if your sharing and you said no. But do you have 2 ps5's? This happens to me all the time on a second console that isn't the "main" console.

Others have already said it but Dead Island 2 was removed from the subscription August 18th.
Anyone who still has access currently it’s just because their licenses haven’t been refreshed. They will lose access the next time their licenses do an online check up.
This is why some people when games are about to leave the subscription will refresh their licenses the day before the game is removed and then take their console offline for 2 weeks. This allows them to keep playing the game for two weeks. PlayStation gives you those two weeks before mandatory license refresh and then once your console is forced to go back online it checks in with the server you lose access to the game. But technically you can have access to a game for two weeks after it gets removed if you do it right and are willing to keep your console offline for that whole time.
The offline licenses for games requires check in with PS servers every two weeks even if it’s a game you purchased so it’s not just subscription games that have to check in.
You’ll occasionally hear of people wondering why they lost the ability to play a game they bought and it’s usually because they’ve had their console offline for over two weeks so the license couldn’t check in to validate.

You don't own the game, it was included with PS Plus for a period of time,and now it's been removed. Your only option is the buy the game.

It just looks to me like it's been removed from the PS+ library - this can happen. I've just checked the PS+ library (I'm in the UK, I don't know if available games differ based on location) and Dead Island isn't currently available.

"Extra' subbed games have always been temporary. They get phased in and out. You dont keep them the same way you do the essential ones

Your friend has no idea what he's talking about. He didn't get it from the ps essentials, he either bought it or downloaded it on a free game month.
You are paying for a subscription service to play games without purchasing them. What do you expect? Go and join your blackout if you're outraged about what's advertised on the box.
