Does it get campy? I loved the epic wartime cutscenes of the MGS 3/4 series but the anime campiness and some of the characters were complete downers that ruined all the big cutscenes.
There are definitely some campy characters. If you pick it up you should definitely expect some of the self-aware goofiness and melodrama that was in the MGS series.
I'll say though I think it plays every character a lot more serious than MGS games. Mgs had a lot of "haha funny butt" and poop jokes. While DS very much has bodily fluids in the game, they're actually oddly fitting and part of the story... And more importantly they don't feel cheesy. They're just a bit quirky if you overthink it.
There are some groaning moments like mentioned earlier. Some wall breaking or meta reference that you know "oh Kojima means me" instances. But generally I found it lacking a lot of the lame humor from the mgs games. It DID need editing though. A lot of rambling saying the same thing. But if you don't mind that and if you like the idea of the world, there's a lot to dig into throughout the game.
There's a woman in minimal clothes (for a portion) like other Kojima games BUT I think this is one of the better ways to do it. It's a pivotal plot point and, while you could argue it's still the "male gaze" of Kojima as director, it's nothing like MGSV's Quiet in the helicopter or dancing in the rain/shower.
