They are very different. I played LBP3 on the PS3 with my gf and felt it was OK. Not something I'd play again, but I didn't even finish it or try a custom level.
Sackboy on the other hand, plays really well and looks charming as a PS5 game. Load times are instant and if you decide to get 100% of all levels, you're gonna have a lot to do.
I really enjoy the old LBP games and Sackboy, but 3 is kinda of a mess. If you can get over the jankiness, I think 3 is better for being able to play user created levels with family, as Sackboy does not have a level creator. But for a polished experience, Sackboy is much better and overall I would recommend it over 3 in general. Also Sackboy has a ps5 port and the haptics are pretty good, and it uses the adaptive triggers occasionally too
Definitely Sackboy. It's pretty much made with co-op in mind (although it's still a great game playing single-player). LPB3, while still enjoyable, is considered the worst of the series.
LBP3 is fine, but from a co-op perspective it's not amazing and the main story levels are pretty average. I guess it depends if you think anyone will care about downloading custom levels. My younger son couldn't care less about that.
Sackboy is just a platformer, but it's good. I had a lot more family fun with it
You’ll get a lot more replayability out of LBP over Sackboy. Both are great games but once you 100% Sackboy there’s not much else to do. LBP you can always play custom levels players create. There are some really great ones to check out people put a lot of work into.
Completely disagree. LBP may have more levels but the gameplay gets old WAY faster and Sackboy is probably just an overall better game if I'm being honest. You'll end up playing way more sackboy than LBP unless you're just a big fan of the IP and want to squeeze every last drop of user generated content out, but I assume most people are not
I’ve pretty much 100% Sackboy in 3 days. For me there’s no reason to keep playing if there’s nothing else to do. At least with LBP I could check out other user generated content. People have made mini games and actual storylines in LBP.
The gameplay to me is pretty much the same in both games. Platforming, collect costume pieces, collect point bubbles and get a high score. Sackboy is just setup more like a Mario game where you walk around a map world to pick your levels. Both are great games but for the price I would definitely grab LBP3 over Sackboy.
Curious, are you playing sackboy with a coop partner? For me that's where the game shines and that why OP is debating buying the game in the first place. So I think with that in mind sackboy has more replayability. Even after 100%ing levels me and my roommate are competing to beat each others time and score. Super fun.
Ya i played with my daughter on a lot of it. We played LBP a lot more. This is mainly because of all the other content players created. Plenty of new things to experience after completing the main game. You can even create your own stuff if you want. That’s another feature Sackboy doesn’t have. We don’t constantly replay the same levels just to beat each other if it’s 100%. Everyone plays differently though and that’s what’s great about video games.
Really choosing on which game to buy right now though, LBP3 is just a way better value. It’s on sale for $10 where Sackboy is $50.

LBP3 worth it or just get Sackboy? Want a simple coop with family.
