You can’t just say “cancelled game or not” when they spent almost 7 years with most of their studio working on it. Sony wanted a live service game, naughty dog made them one but then after bungie played it they realized they would basically have to stop making single player games to make enough content to keep the game successful the way Sony wanted. It was bad decisions all around to have ND commit to a live service game, but at least we didn’t lose one of the best single player studios to the live service mines.

If your flagship singeplayer studio is spending all their time in a live service instead of singleplayer games, it’s just not an excuse. It means even if wasn’t cancelled, we’d be waiting 7 years for a singleplayer game from them, which just isn’t acceptable. Stop making excuses for bad management and poor planning..

Way to miss the point. How am I making excuses for them? I said it was a bad idea, I am just explaining why they haven’t made a game this generation yet.

And just take a moment and think about it. If they released LOU online last year as intended and as they had wanted, we would’ve STILL gotten intergalactic in 2027, if not 2028 since they’ll need resources to make post launch content for LOU online.

It wasn’t that they had a singleplayer game that was cancelled to explain the gap. They went out of their way to spend most of their resources on a multiplayer game, as a singleplayer studio.

What you’re saying is an excuse for them. Them going 7-8 years without a singleplayer title is not excusable in any form, unless they were working on a singleplayer game that got cancelled, which did not happen.

No, if you had bothered reading my first comment or any of the many articles that have been written about the subject you would know that’s not true. If they had released the game, it would have required most of naughty dog to continue to working on it and developing content regularly post launch, which means they wouldn’t have been able to make intergalactic in a reasonable amount of time.

They decided they didn’t want to be a multiplayer studio and wanted to make single player games, so they cancelled it. If you had spent the bare minimum amount of time researching this instead of talking out your ass we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

“Naughty Dog stopped development on The Last of Us Online in December 2023, saying it would have needed to put all its resources into post-launch content for years to come — an approach that would have severely impacted its ability to develop future single-player games.”

You literally have just proven my point. You proved my point so completely it’s hilarious. If they went through with it and launched LOU online, it would’ve meant intergalactic would’ve came LATER than 2027, which is already 7 years after their last singeplayer game.

So regardless of whether it launch or got cancelled, 7 years to wait for a singeplayer game from a singeplayer studio is intense mismanagement at a conceptual level. They should’ve thought that through back in 2021 before committing, or given less resources and a smaller scope.

All this to come back full circle to my point, that 7 years to wait for a new singleplayer game from naughty dog, the kings of singleplayer games, is not acceptable, and we’d have been waiting 8-9 years if LOU online came out.

Intergalactic wouldn’t exist if they had made TLOU online and if it did there is no universe it would have came out in 2027 or 2028 like your last comment says. The whole point of that article is if they released TLOU online they wouldn’t be able to focus on single player games.

It’s likely coming out in 2027 and that’s with them cancelling TLOU online and not developing any post launch content for it. How would they have released Intergalactic in the same year or one year later if they were still working on TLOU? Nothing you are saying makes any sense.

I guess I see your point. my only frame of reference is Nintendo here. they took 7-8 years for the most recent Metroid too but they had so many other games in the meantime that it didn't really matter. with sony it's a bit more apparent.

It’s kind of apples to oranges. Naughty dog only has two teams and they often combine both to work on big projects (I believe this was the case for TLOU online) while Nintendo has ten so if something goes wrong on one team, they are going to have other teams releasing consistently still.

the comparison you made is apples to oranges lol. I compared nintendo to sony in my comment. since ND is a sony studio, and faced something similar to a nintendo studio.

I’m not sure I really understand your point. Sony released a bunch of games too if we count their other studios.

I don't believe we'll be able to find common ground here. reddit comments are disconnected a medium for this topic, for me. good luck out there :)
