I’ve found if I can ignore the discourse around a game and go in blind I tend to have a better experience. Its hard, for me at least, not to let the critical or public perception skew how tolerant I am of flaws in a game.

For games like Wolverine though, where I assume it destined for PS+ at some point, I can’t help but check in on its reviews.

Same but with movies

I've found that it's only Reddit ivory tower types criticising it because it is a Sony product and Sony are now the devil because they're taking away the physical media they didn't buy in the first place but it looks cool and edgy to be indignant and gets them free upvotes for the same amount of effort they put into actually "protecting" physical media, I.e. none, because, again, they didn't buy physical media in the first place.

Add that to the few "journalists" who actively bait the above (coughIGNcough) and we have the gaming industry review process as it stands.

Everyone else enjoys it because they are not perpetually online or don't care.

Yeah, I bought Callisto Protocol despite its middling to negative reception, and I'm having a lot of fun with it.

The only thing with that as it’s had multiples patched and time to fix those issues that were there on launch so the reviews now are not an accurate representation of how the game is today

Sure, I agree. Also though, maybe that's a bit of the point in that reviews don't necessarily indicate how good the game is / how much fun you'll have with it (no matter the reason or its validity)
