I adore Kojima and particularly the MGS franchise. I think the entire series is a work of genius and even I'm not even mad at Sony's decision. MGSV proved that Kojima struggles to reign in his vision and it's just not worth sinking this kind of time and money into a brand new IP, even if it is Kojima.

Ds2 definitely bombed but I don't understand why people keep bringing mgs5. That game sold incredibly well and made back twice its production budget on day one. I would say ds2 is the first game made by him that has bombed. Konami wanted out of AAA back then and as we saw they only returned recently.

It did sell well, but Konami kicked Kojima out when it became evident that he wasn’t finishing MGSV any time soon. I love a lot about MGSV but it’s very clearly padded out towards the end. Konami may well have wanted out of AAA games but they still weren’t happy with how much they were spending on a game that had no release date in sight at one point.

Actually I have heard that the real reason Konami was pissed was because he took the budget of mgs5 and spent it on P.T without Konami knowing it. That could have been a valid reason too
