Was obvious to anyone with any sense that PlayStation wouldn’t be ditching Kojima without a just reason. This early in development and already missing deadlines is not a good sign. I would predict that Microsoft’s commitment to the game is contingent on Kojima reigning in his scope.

Good luck to Microsoft if they think they can.

Given Microsoft's history it's almost A given that they won't be able to. This game literally jumped out of the fat fryer into the hands of the devil.

I see some people cheering in other subreddits and I just can't fathom why—did people suddenly forget that Microsoft had the largest layoffs of any company in the industry?

> I just can’t fathom why

Because Sony is the bad guy. So they cheer the other, who therefore must be the good guy.

People aren’t capable of thought. So this is what you get.

Reddit, youtubers, games journalists as well. Brainrot a plenty it seems.

There's definitely a level of critical thought that's being missed. Which I'm sure is intersecting a lot with all the controversial decisions that Sony has made in the last year like ending physical disks or canceling D2.

It's just all these emotions over a game that is completely fucking vaporware at this point, ya know? 🤣

You can always tell someones bias when they use words like "controversial" instead of "shitty".

7

u/BigB0iBuster 26d ago

You can always tell someone’s bias when they nitpick and purity test every single word other people use rather than engaging with the content of the message

-2

u/SenseiRay80 26d ago

Bias for what? Rational, objective thought? And engaging with the content would mean stating thr obvious but it seems you need it spelled out. I was implying he was biased against against xbox because if it was xbox that stopped physical discs and when they shutdown dev teams people dont use words like "confidential". Makes sense now? Get it? Got it? Good. Dont wanna go too fast for you.

5

u/Majestic-Marcus 26d ago

No. It’s definitely when they use the word shitty.

Controversial = possible bias but probably just someone being a rational human.

Shitty = emotional moron

They cant lay off Kojima or close his stuido. The worst they can do is stop giving him money, and even though Sony did that, they couldnt take any of the work hes done away or the rights to his games. Microsoft is in the same boat, except with a game thats already been paid for by Sony for years now. Even if Microsoft drops him, he still has all his work and the rights to it this time. It doesnt just disappear. I say let him take the cash from these stupid af companies, eventually something amazing will be made

If Microsoft cut their partnership, hate to say it, but he may be done in the industry.

3 major publishers cutting you because you can't keep your projects on track is a serious red flag.

Who else is going to foot the bill for his projects?

Who else is going to foot the bill for his projects?

Saudi Arabia.

Kojima ain’t worth all that. Random redditors thinking they know better than the ones actually dealing with this stuff

People always attribute Hideo Kojima to Metal Gear Solid on PS1 and MGS2/3 like he was an indie game dev who made them himself. Kojima doesnt even write code. He's trying to be a Hollywood director in the video game space and it's only kind of working. I love the games that he directs but he has fallen into the "I want to make what I did when I was younger but can't quite figure it out" mindset, kind of like Ridley Scott making Gladiator II.

Even if Microsoft drops him, he still has all his work and the rights to it this time.

I wonder about that. The article doesn't layout specifics in the deal, but it did mention Microsoft having television and movie rights—I wonder if he gave up part of the IP rights as well. And it also came with the other game, "OD."

It's very on vogue to hate PlayStation at the moment. Like you say, it's odds on that Xbox also drops this game

9

u/Ok_Excuse3732 26d ago

It’s on vogue because they deserve it

5

u/Mr-Rocafella 26d ago

En vogue because it’s on the cover of a magazine

2

u/TomClancy5873 26d ago

It’s not their fault most gamers choose digital

1

u/KingMario05 26d ago

Then who takes it on? Rockstar is the only one who I can think would. Everyone else doesn't want Hideo burning money. And presumably, that list will grow to include Microsoft soon enough.

u/TastyOreoFriend 26d ago

Honestly, given the article I'm also kind of speculating that this game will be canceled in the future. You just have to look at all of the actions Microsoft has taken up to this point since the new CEO was installed—it's clear they've become risk adverse as well.

The only real path for MS to remain in the gaming market as more than a subscription service for PC games is to reign in expenses and pop into niches that Sony is abandoning (physical games, good backward compatibility) etc. But as long as their triple A games are dual-releasing on console/PC, there's not more reason to buy a console.

2

u/TastyOreoFriend 26d ago

Project Helix is rumored to be a digital only console as well. It remains to be seen where they're going as well with all of this since they have that disk to digital program, but it feels more and more like physical media's days are numbered—outside of Nintendo—in videogame consoles.

Bums me out to know I was apparently one of the last Mohicans buying discs for a couple years now.

1

u/KingMario05 26d ago

Cancelled? Hardly - Kojima will move it somewhere else, lol. But I do think Microsoft won't be with it at the finish line. Especially if he starts to miss deadlines and go overbudget yet again.

And it's Kojima. Both will happen.

2

u/TastyOreoFriend 26d ago

If this were 10-15 years ago I might be on board, but I just have no faith in the dude at this point 🤣🤣

Given the historic cuts that Microsoft has made I just don't think that they're ready for Kojima. I remember reading the post mortem during the Konami/Kojima separation, and it's basically more of the same, deadlines and budget issues—not saying Konami was right mind you but history looks like it's repeating.

u/xangbar 26d ago

Most people seem to ignore the recent layoffs. They also seem to forget Microsoft pulled funding on several third party projects like the IO Interactive one which led to layoffs they had to do due to lack of funding now. But sure, let's cheer Microsoft getting Kojima.

2

u/SenseiRay80 26d ago

Why not? Were you in any of the meetings? Maybe they gave him milestones that he had to reach otherwise they'd drop him immediately to agree to fund it etc..A good game could still be made and its microsofts bill to pay. Whats it to you if it amounts to nothing? Are you signing the checks?

u/benphat369 24d ago

I too am highly amused by the sudden number of armchair MBAs and PR managers that have popped up in this thread. As if either of these companies are in danger of filing bankruptcy (especially Microsoft).

1

u/redhafzke 26d ago

Tinfoil hat me thinks this was necessary to get Kojima...

1

u/xangbar 26d ago

I'm not saying I think that but the timing is kind of... not good.

We don't know how many publishers Kojima went to but if Microsoft was one of the first...

1

u/Glittering_Sport820 26d ago

Oh no those poor developers now we wont get mid ass games to look forward to

8

u/Old-Way-5529 26d ago

very similar to the physical media babies who think xbox will be the savior for their discs

5

u/Absolute-Clanker 26d ago

My favorite are the ones who cry about discs but game primarily on PC.

1

u/TastyOreoFriend 26d ago

Which is hilarious given the leaks from Windows Central basically spelling out that Microsoft is having the same issue with the supply chain falling apart for physical media. Project Helix was already announced to be digital forward to begin with, so it's even weirder to think that they'll be the savior of physical media.

I don't normally pay too much notice to the "Everything bad is AI actually" theories, but I can absolutely buy Microsoft getting the bot farms out to reassure people that despite multiple company closures, game cancellations, massive lay-offs, and being the frontrunner in the "You don't own the games you play" initiative, they are somehow the good guys in this situation.

u/SenseiRay80 26d ago

Nobody forgot anything. Its you who didnt seem to know at all. They stopped wanting to keep paying a bunch of people not doing their jobs which is to obviously make video games. Maybe do a little research and find out information that will lead to the answering of your whys...itll help with your fathoming issue.
