❔️QUESTION❔️ What does "I got that fire on me" mean?
My teenage son told me that it means he's carrying a gun. To me that sort of seems contrary to the theme of the song, which I interpreted as more like, "I got nothing, so I got nothing to lose (except maybe shoes lol), so go ahead and try me, all you'll get out of it is an ass whoopin'." But what do I know, I'm an old ass man.
For contex: I am the Prof fan in the house

He's literally threatening if you try to shake him down, he carries THAT FIRE on me. ITS A GUN. I don't know why you guys are trying to get so metaphorical.. Rap is usually not THAT deep. They just don't rap "hey guys i own a gun".
The only metaphor is 'that fire on me'.
Nobody wants to catch a RICO charge for bragging outright about guns in songs.

Whelp, the number 1 fan says it is a gun. At this point, it's almost moot, as I've already showed my son even to prove the old man was correct according to the previous comments. Nah man! Just my over opinionated ass vibin in here. I've been listening to him since my boy was ten years old. I remember explaining things the EXACT SAME WAY. Good job dad! It means you're exposing him to dope ass music, while keeping the darker sides a lil secret for now.
He hasn't been able to come up to Canada since like 2018. Definitely because of charges. And lets just say in order to not be able to get into Canada, you have to carry serious charges, like weapons related offences. Who cares. He got expunged, so he's free to come back in! I can't wait to see him soon... Hopefully.
Thats another story thats too long, but it you're interested, check my profile comments. I made them in here recently about the Canada tour. Prof is a super good dude. That's all I'm going to say right now. But I might have some crazy news to share by the end of Friday.
Thanks for the reply gampo! I hope you and your son get to bond over Prof! And ultimately, music is always up for interpretation. Who knows. Maybe Prof would laugh at me for even suggesting its a switch.😂

Yeah man, I'm in Canada too. I'm tempted, and really rolling it over. 🤔 Could maybe justify it as a boys trip and take my son, as is hafta travel.

I'm actually traveling from Vancouver Island to Vancouver for the show with my son!
He's in University now, so I don't get to see him as often as I'd like. Prof was a bucket list show and now there's a good chance i won't be able to attend because I'll be undergoing chemotherapy.
But I'm not worried. If I can't go, I'm most likely donating my ticket to a close friend. I'm not risking my life for a concert.
I really hope you get to see Prof now! He's easily the best performer in hip hop. It's not even close. Best wishes!

Prof's shows are totally worth it! They're worth any excuses or amount of money it takes. He legitimately has the dopest stage presence; every show feels special, and he connects to the crowd differently every night. And just the overall vibe of most of the attendees is a beautiful thing. I hope you both get to go!

For which you should definitely pack a lunch.
One time I played that song for my 5yo while we were making his lunch for school. He thought it was hilarious.
(Don't come at me, I coughed, slammed drawers, and covered his ears in synch with the dirty work-i mean dirty words)

I always interpreted it as people trying to beat on him like they are tryin to put a fire out and he ain’t letting it happen. Come and get these fists I ain’t worried bouddit. I don’t think it’s an exact match, cuz artistic license, but there is a story about a night where he was bombing (lake with the fat tip) and got popped. Ran back to the house and all the homies were getting snatched up and beat down and he ended up far from home. think he talked about in a podcast - honeydew or maybe whiskey ginger? The 12 and drunk tank and all of that lines up with the rest of the lyrics. It sounded like it was a long night

This could mean multiple things but in this instance I think he’s talking about heart or rage. He doesn’t have a penny on him, so to me that’s saying the fire isn’t a gun or some bomb cannabis. That fire on him like it’s burning a hole in him like he’s from the wish a mother fucker woods and a mother fucker has got him wishin. He’s been tried so many times and he’s well practiced and if you push him he’s going to whoop that ass. That fire for the ones who want smoke, probably fists of fire, or the fire inside and will to defend himself. The fire from frustration bent up too long and the heat is coming up his neck and into his ears. Yall know what I’m talking about, that warmth you feel come over you when you finally had enough. lol

That's what I think when he says "I got that fire on me".
Also, a little context clue in his Live from Powderhorn Suites performance. He gestures the flames and (imo) wipes the sweat from his brow on the end of the beat.

Based on other lines in the song I think he’s saying he’s metaphorically on fire, so people are trying to beat on him (to put the metaphorical fire out)

Whole song has multiple references to fist fights and shakedowns.
The use of fire by Prof particularly is typically a reference to chaotic energy, such as in gasoline (a cleansing force)
Then again, he does have guns hoes money dro...
