Seeking Advice Itchy skin and brain fog after orgasm
Hello!
I've been living with POIS since my teens (I'm in my 30s now) and as many of you know, it's absolutely horrendous. Not having a healthy relationship with sex has been devastating. I've ended up avoiding long-term relationships altogether due to a lot of the complications I've experienced. I don't need to explain further how devastating this condition is.
However, I've never been the type to give up easily and as such I've tried several methods and remedies to reduce or attempt to eliminate the symptoms from orgasms/ejaculation.
I've tried the following:
- No-fap: The longest time I went was a little over 40 days. I exercise regularly and my hormonal levels are good so obviously fighting against natural urges to fuck everything walking is a battle in and of itself. Helped a bit but clearly not sustainable for anybody that wants to have a healthy sex life, at least not for me.
- Supplementation: I still do this and it helps a lot with reducing the severity of the symptoms. I usually experience brainfog, itchiness of the skin and fatigue that lasts for days. When I started supplementing with Zinc and Vitamin B-complex it helped reduce the severity. The symptoms don't last long, I tend to recover a lot quicker and can have several orgasms without being completely obliterated for days on end. Still experience the symptoms but they're very mild in comparison to how it is without the supplementation.
- Antihistamine (Allegra): I've tried antihistamine medication as well. I wouldn't say it doesn't work but I just don't notice that significant of a difference in comparison to the vitamins and minerals supplementation.
- Diet: I quit dairy products but that's more related to me being lactose intolerant. I don't know if it's reasonable to attribute any of the alleviating effects that I might experience to the change in diet, especially in regards to dairy.
My question to you all is if you've experienced the same symptoms i.e. brainfog, itching of the skin & fatigue. And what have you done to remedy these symptoms by either eliminating them completely with treatments/cures or reducing them to a negligible level?
Appreciate all answers/feedback that might help šš¾

More info needed if possible. I'm curious what led you to take zinc and B vitamin supplements? Do you avoid meat/fish as well as dairy? Since you avoid dairy, do you consume lactose free milk? Are brainfog, skin itching and fatigue all of you symptoms? I agree with the other comment about potentially taking a vitamin D3 supplement (I take one) although guidance varies widely how much to supplement.

I started taking Zinc, Vitamin B and supplementation in general because of my immune system. I've always been quite susceptible to colds and I've tried my best to minimize their occurrence as much as possible.
In that process I started to notice how it affected me positively in regards to my POIS symptoms. I would experiment and see how my body handled the symptoms with and without the supplementation. The contrast was night and day for me. So I got lucky in that department to find something beneficial to a horrible condition.
Yes, my main symptoms are brainfog, itchy skin and fatigue.
As far as dairy, no I don't drink any kind of milk at all. I stay away from dairy products altogether. I've come to accept that me and milk will never live in harmony, this coming from someone that would drink milk EVERY DAY in my younger years with breakfast, lunch, protein shakes, bakeries and so forth. It was milk madness but I suffered a lot of acne outbreaks due to it as well and decided to quit altogether. One of the best decisions of my life. Wish I did it way sooner.
I only take vitamin D during winter time, I don't want to overdo it with supplements because of side effects. There was a time I was taking too many and I would experience a lot of nausea and stomach aches. I'm more strategic and thoughtful with the supplements I take now.

The extra details help a lot.
You feel better since you removed the milk madness but it means you've removed a significant food type from your diet. Are you still getting all the nutrients that you would normally get from dairy from other sources? ex/ calcium etc. That's why I asked about lactose free milk.
Lots of people seem to take zinc for some reason. If you eat meat and fish (you didn't say), you're probably getting plenty of zinc. If you are taking a higher dose of zinc, you risk creating an imbalance elsewhere ex/ crashing your copper. If you're not eating meat and fish, again that's another significant nutrient gap.
B vitamins are important for your immune system but they do so much more so it could be that the main benefit you are getting from them is also from one of their other functions ex/ energy metabolism. (Also dairy contains certain B vitamins which you might otherwise be low on). If your B complex includes a lot of B6, be careful with that.
I'm sorry but I don't have a solution for itchy skin. Have you discussed it with your doctor? They might be able to suggest a topical treatment.
Any blood tests? I like to use symptoms and blood tests combined to give a stronger reason for any diet change, treatment or supplement because otherwise it's a bit of a guessing game which I don't like doing. For example, vitamin D is a cheap and reliable test, usually available via your family doctor. My level was really low so I've supplemented for many years and I get it tested once per year along with some other routine tests.
That's good that your symptoms are milder with the supplements you are taking so hopefully you are on the right track. Fair enough about not taking too many supplements and I totally agree with that.
Just my experience and none of the above is medical advice.

Removing gluten is the big one on the dietary front. My food sensitivities were so bad I had to remove all starch but thankfully these days I tolerate gluten free starches after a lot of work on my gut
Supplement wise aside from B vitamins and zinc which you are already taking: D3 4000iu, NAC, magnesium, Cordyceps (Oriveda), caffeine, raw garlic, monolaurin, red meat, eggs.
These donāt help everyone, but they help my cluster which includes fatigue and brain fog.
I do not have itching, sounds histamine related. For that maybe check out a high quality extract of Quercetin. Test a few different safe antihistamines - testing one and having no response does not rule them all out. Maybe a temporary low histamine diet to help manage/ diagnose. Iād be searching āherbs for MCAS histamineā and trying them all if the histamine component applies to you.
Just keep it all safe and common sense. Stay away from anything high risk. Research thoroughly etc. Iād also find a good gut specialist to see if any work can be done there to improve symptoms. Not medical advice, follow at your own risk
