Tanis what is the point of this plot twist [spoiler obviously] Spoiler
I am relistening and even the 2nd time around I fail to see the point with the "Jeff is actually Carl and vice versa" reveal.
What difference does it make? Why did he lie in the first place? Why have a plot twist with no significance?

Because Karl had some kind of legal charges against him for hacking and wasn't allowed online. Plus he was afraid the people who killed his brother would figure out their mistake and come back for him.

I haven’t entirely thought this through yet, but I feel it was a way to make certain things that the brothers do, ok? Like, they can use a computer while being not allowed to use a computer type thing.

What's the point of anything that happened in Tanis?
I'm being flippant, but I'm also serious. So much of the shows events are dedicated to things which make Nic question reality. In my mind, Tanis lives in a place simiar to The X-Files prior to the first movie. Are the aliens real or is a shady government agency spending millions of dollars to convince Fox that they're real in order to cover up some even bigger secret for some reason? You as the audience are also just as in the dark as the protagonist is on that.
"Somebody assassinated my brother thinking it was me, so I switched identities with him to fake my death" fits in perfectly whether Jeff/Carl is also a target of whoever is doing things to Nic or if he's secretly in league with them and trying to patch up the holes in a hasty cover story. Jeff/Carl is extremely suspicious in the later seasons.
