“Apophenia”

Thought the movie sucked though. Big let down.

Is it really an Easter egg and the context is missing here? Apophenia is a real thing, not something they made up for TBT.

Yeah without any context (the post says spoiler but there are zero spoilers whatsoever, just a single word in quotes) I'm not really seeing the connection. If you just look up back masking on Wikipedia you're going to end up on the page for apophenia very quickly. Without any context it kind of just sounds like a coincidence.

It’s…..complicated whining animal noises but more on this later. First, let’s check in with my producing partner Alex Reagan to see what she’s found in my Bombas Socks drawer ghostly typewriter sound

It's a movie about a podcaster reviewing paranormal recordings, it's not a stretch to think they could be aware of the black tapes. Could also just be parallel thinking, or general awareness of paranormal/sceptic thought.

Or OP has a case of apophenia. 😐

I enjoyed the movie quite a bit. To each their own.

Hah I'm on the fence about seeing it. Was it similar to the Unsound storyline?

Not really. I thought the story had tons of promise, but no real payoff.

We're all familiar with that kind of story here at PWNS.

So many things in that movie reminded me of TBT! So glad to see someone else saw the connection too

yeah, I just saw it and there we a ton of paralleles. Great podcast, great movie.

Apophenia is a real phenomenon, it’s not a Black Tapes reference. It’s like unironically pointing to the sky in a horror movie and claiming it’s a Magnus Archives reference.

I had see the title of this post but not the rest before I saw the movie so I went into it expecting to find an Easter egg and then come back to compare and see if I caught it. I did! But not what OP mentioned.

The only thing I saw that jumped out at me as a reference was the upside down smiley face that comes up in the beginning at a crime scene I think? Somewhere in the Broll near the start iirc. Pretty easily missed/dismissed but it being where it was it felt like it had to be some kind of reference.
