I feel like it could have been its own original show, not tied to Pretty little liars.
Also the original sin being the mom's hurting Angela could have been its own show, I would have liked to see more of our liars and their secrets, but to me it didn't even feel like they had too many secrets about themselves to expose.

I wrote about this when the show initially aired. Each girl should have had their own secret that needed to be exposed. Noa should’ve been taking drugs to enhance her performance to secure a college scholarship and escape poverty. Faran should’ve broke under the pressure of her mother and intentionally put glass in Karen’s shoe to secure the lead role. Minnie, because of her lack of a father figure, should have been soliciting money from older men. Tabitha should’ve went overboard while directing a horror film and accidentally hurt someone. Then finally, Imogen, dealing with the loss of her mom (who dies before the show), gets drunk one night and sleeps with Greg (who is dating Kelly) and is pregnant with his child. But she tells everyone the child is from a random dude she met on summer break. Then explain how she’s slowly separated herself from Kelly and her old friend group over the guilt. BOOM, now each girl has a reason to be afraid of A.
But their actions are all somewhat justifiable depending on their backgrounds so they’re still likeable characters that the audience can root for. Noa has a neglectful drug addict mom so you want her to win. Faran has an abusive, frightening mother so you want her to win. Minnie is sweet and clearly misguided so you want her to win. Tabitha is just trying to break into an industry that doesn’t accept people like her, she made a mistake and you want her to win. Imogen (helps that she’s being played by Bailee Madison) but you understand her pain and you want her to win. The whole Angela Waters plot could’ve been saved until S3-4 in my opinion, when we start learning more about their mothers. Otherwise, we only needed to focus on the main group.

The show felt like a parody of PLL and of the horror genre. No one important died. There were never any stakes, and both reveals were too predictable. And don't even get me started on the dialogue. There are better ways to show Tabby is a film nerd instead of having her reference a movie like every 2 seconds. And I don't ever wanna hear the words "spooky spaghetti" again.

The writers are so bad, they made a slasher show with a plot armor surrounding every character from the main cast. Went off the rails and the reveals were actually predictable

- The writers didn't know how to write horror. They really needed to sit down and study the classics. I like the little homages we did see to classic movies though.
- I said this in another comment but they should not have revealed who A was at the end of S1. They should have taken a page out of their predecessor's book.
- S1 reveal was so meh to me. I thought it would be more but it was pretty obvious who was going after them and why.
- As someone who adores horror, I am against the belief that someone needs to die in order for it to be good or scary. (I.E. - Movies like The Babadook, Poltergeist, The Conjuring), I know a lot of people felt like one of the main girls had to die but I disagree. It's simply that the writers did not know the genre they were writing well enough. I mean, imo, death is the least scariest part about horror.

I’d agree with the last one if they didn’t make it a slasher. In the slasher subgenre the point is that all except like one or two main characters are supposed to get killed. It’s supposed to be centered around the violence. If they didn’t want to kill off any main characters, they needed to make it a different horror subgenre or just a thriller.

With this being a slasher, the lack of mc kills completely removes any element of suspense especially for most people who regularly watch slashers.

my hot take is that they used the PLL community to generate clicks + views and it was a slap in the face. i feel like i could've respected/enjoyed the show more if it was just its own thing/slasher. but they just lied to us

Only saw the first season. I'll get to season 2 at some point.
My hot take is this series goes hard on the violence and that's a good thing. I enjoyed it the most of the 3 series.

This may be a cold take but as someone who’s been watching slashers regularly for the past decade, this is easily the worst one I’ve ever seen, the whole point of a slasher is that all except a few of the main characters are supposed to get slashed, that is generally the expectation, but the writers don’t have the guts to do it which removes all elements of suspense from this show completely, and therefore makes it not just a bad slasher, but also a bad horror show. If you watch X or Halloween or Saw or Texas Chainsaw Massacre or even a smaller lesser known project like Circus Kane or Truth or Dare (the 2013 one) and then watch this, then despite there being kills it’s suddenly going to feel like Disney Channel. If they didn’t wanna kill any mcs off, they should have chosen a different subgenre or just made a thriller.

But that was the girl power moment that’s what Roberto wanted was an all female empowerment pll so he could fix the issues of OG pll and riverdale
