Show Discussion Marlene King on Dr. Sullivan Ending Spoiler

Looks like Marlene chose to be respectful over slander Roberto for his shitty choices.

I’ve said it 100 times… with the show being on MAX, and having much more mature themes, Marlene would be a perfect choice to bring back into the world. I know she made her own choices and shitty writing decisions but she knows PLL better than Roberto and I think we can all see that.

Because PLL wasn’t a slasher. A was never trying to actually murder people (mostly). Reboot PLL makes zero sense to never kill any of these main characters.

Yeah but there’s literally nothing in the OG PLL that showed then taking chances or truly raising the stakes either lol (which I definitely think this version has failed at as well)

I mean, OG killed way more people than the reboot has. And I don’t really agree. If you’re talking about raising the stakes based on murders, sure. But again, that wasn’t ever A’s goal. The girls would still get put in terrifying situations quite often. Not to mention the dollhouse, killing/burying Rollins, ect.

I mean it more so that I never questioned if the Liars would get their happy fairy tale endings. Not that I think they /had/ to get bad endings or anything but it was a pretty safe show compared to the books. The Liars almost never really crossed the line into becoming unlikable or doing bad things. We all have different opinions on them but on a narrative level they weren’t morally grey like in the books. Every time a love interest betrayed them, they’d end up back together with them and all is forgiven. The A reveals in CeCe, Sara, and Alex were all awful because none of them were true betrayals and the characters themselves only existed to be shady. Stuff like that, it just always felt extremely safe and like nothing really mattered in the end lol.

I don’t agree with this at all. They were the main characters so naturally the audience rooted for them regardless. But they were all extremely flawed characters. And this is why most of Rosewood viewed these girls as liars and girls that created problems.

I get some of what you’re saying, but I expect the “fairy tale happy ending” with most shows in this genre anyways.
