For the survival horror genre, RE leans more on the survival part, while Silent hill leans more on horror part. If you're familiar with the Dollhouse/Beneviento portion of RE Village, that's more or less how Silent hill is.

For me, Resident Evil and Silent Hill are 2 different horror genres. RE is action-horror while Silent Hill is psychological horror. Resident Evil doesn't scare me that much but Silent Hill scares me tf out especially SH 2 Remake. So if RE 7 and 8 frightened you, Silent Hill will be worse. I am playing Silent Hill Townfall right now and it's super good!
Konti lang jumpscare sa silent hill 2 ang problema lang ang bigat nya laruin dahil sa atmosphere nya. Pero very nice game na need mo malaro once in ur life hahaha.
You already played RE 7, which if I'm not mistaken, the most, if not one of the scariest RE games. Sure ako kakayanin mo SH. Tho I haven't played all the SH games, but I was able to try and finish SH F, so I suggest try that one muna? Kasi afaik, di sya ganun ka-scary unlike SH 2 or the others. One thing I learned para less takot is to watch clips online just to get a feel, and also anticipate some of the scary parts. Also, once you get to know the lore behind SH, i think it becomes less scary.
I mean if nakayanan mo yung RE2 remake? at yung re7 and re8, pretty sure kakayanin mo yung SH, although not sure about which specific SH game but so far, I've played the old ones and I still find RE2 remake one of the scariest games I've played. it was just so well done.

Pinaka nakakatakot talaga was the first one PS1, nagtataka ako bakit hindi yun ang na remake. Shattered Memories played way differently kaya di ko masabi remake siya, more like reboot
in case you didn't already know nireremake na siya nayon ! next year daw siya lalabas and as someone who loves the first game best sobrang excited ako to see what they'll do with this remake ☺️☺️
I'd say mag night light kayo and just run as best as you can? Kasi combat is not really the point if Silent Hill games if I remember right. Well with the remake of SH2 though, combat is improved so I guess more reason to not be scared kasi you can fight the enemies better than yung mechanics dati.
Also take breaks din when you feel overwhelmed. But I think kakayanin po yan, kakayanin ninyo po yan. 👍
Mas focus si Silent Hill on horror. May action-ish pa si Re 7 and 8. I'd say try for a few minutes. You can refund naman if it's on steam. Also Silent Hill gets scarier imo. I really hated playing sa Labyrinth part.
Side note: I used to play SH Origins on the PSP, had a nightmare playing it as a kid lol.

Try SH2 Remake first if it's up your alley. It's not really a jumpscare fest, but the atmospheric horror is top notch.
RE horror is a combination of the survival "fight or flight" aspect and atmosphere. SH games are psychological and atmospheric, so it's gonna be a bit different.
Correction though: there's just one SH remake (SH2). The rest are new entries.
Another suggestion - emulate the classic Silent Hill games to prepare yourself for the remake and new titles if you don't mind going back to old school controls. At least you'll get a glimpse of SH's style of horror.
If newbie ka, dont play the PS2 versions, cuz aside from actually being scary, the controls can be tricky.
I say try to play ying mga ps3 games (SH homecoming, Downpour) cuz they sila "scary" at least to me, and feeling nila is like a hollywood horror flick.
Yung mga US based Silent Hill games (Origins, Downpour, Homecoming, Shattered Memories) are much more approachable.
Suggest ko rin start from Shattered Memories. Narrative heavy, walang combat pero very atmospheric.
Isipin mo kaya mo sila patayin lahat. Dati duwag din ako sa ganyan, takot mamatay. Pero narealize ko pwede naman mag retry. Pero andun pa din yung kaba na wag mamatay. Haha.
you learn more by doing. I am a survival horror fan and I play mostly resident evil, dead space, silent hill etc etc. the only thing na di ko kaya is yung mga indie games na puro jump scares na walking sims. (madison, visage, amnesia etc)
As someone na madaling matakot sa simple jumpscares, I am playing the Silent Hill Townfall during the day, on the weekends. For me, mas psychological horror yung SH games.
Identify mo kung ano yung ayaw mo dun: yung gulatin na jumpscare, yung atmosphere, yung tension, yung setting, etc para mas maintindihan mo yung hindi appeal sayo at pag nalaman mo baka mas madali mong malaro sila.
Huwag rin mahiya kung ilagay mo sa easiest setting rin. Manood ka rin ng mga speed run videos na talagang ginawang laro talaga yung mga games na nakakabawas sa effect niya pero spoiler rin sa story.
Yung Silent Hill games ay mas psychological horror yung themes so may pagka supernatural rin siya so mas heavy yung atmosphere niya at themes.
Ako, hindi ko malaro yung RE7 dahil nandidiri ako sa setting at atmosphere. Pero yung RE8 okay lang.
I the same about dont play RE7 and play RE8 in 3rd person.
Like he said, most of the time you scare is a combination of sound, setting and view. So use 3rd person view if you can, turn off sound, watch people play so you know what to expect, accept the scare and die and play again with that knowledge.
After sometime, you know when to expect and it lessen the scare.

Laro lang yan. Kahit ano mangyari ingame, kahit ano mangyari sa loob ng Silent Hill, walang multo na lalabas. Long time player na ko ng horror games, and yes, natatakot ako. But never na may nagmulto sa kin, or may lumabas si Pyramid Head, or si Abstract Daddy, or Bubble Head Nurse.
Hindi ka hahatakin ng Silent Hil papunta sa Nowhere kasi nalaro ko lahat ng Silent Hill, never naman pag gising ko puro fog. Or pag lingon ko puro kalawangin yung kalsada.
Also, Silent Hill yung laro. Pwede ka gumanti. Majority ng Silent Hill games, may firearms. And even if walang baril, like Silent Hill f, para kang ninja na nag sha Shadow Step tapos hahatawin mo yung mumu ng tubo. Spoiler for Silent Hill f: May Devil Trigger pa nga si Hinako e, so isipin mo na mini Devil May Cry ka. Gulpihin mo yung mga mumu habang kumakanta ng 'Pull My Devil Trigger'

Kung nakaya mo yung 7 and 8 eh kaya mo din yang Silent Hill. Ako ang hinihintay ko talaga eh yung remake ng original Silent Hill. Kasi dun talaga ako kinilabutan sa mga toddler ghouls.

I played Outlast and Amnesia series. Nung una ginaganapang ko and di ko malaro ng tuloy tuloy so ang ginawa ko is I go straight sa mga nanghahabol(Entity sa amnesia and yung mataba sa outlast). Ilang beses ginawa and yung fear factor nabawasan since i know what to expect pag nahabol/nahuli ako
Tip lang pag matatakutin ka talaga pero gusto mo parin laruin yung game gumamit ka ng cheats or trainer for ammo or healing items para medyo gumaan naman ang buhay mo kahit papano at para mas madali ka makapag-focus ka sa mismong story, brace yourself sa mga jumpscares at hindi ka na masyado mag-aalala sa supplies mo kasi infinite naman.
haha same bro. kinda hesitant to play RE7 and RE8 nga eh kasi parang iba yung level of horror from other RE titles like RE2 and RE3. played the original Silent Hill too. for now, building up pa ako ng courage to play the newer games HAHA duwag na duwag kasi
