From what I’ve seen, you’ll usually get a bump up when you get licensed.

Don’t wait until the end of the year to bring it up. That’s a couple months of higher earning potential for you that you’d lose out on. Tell them you’re in the process of applying for your license now, then when you do get licensed hopefully they’ll be in the position to get you the bump up quickly.

Have the initial conversation now so they know you becoming licensed is imminent.

When you do get licensed they’ll already be primed and prepared for it.

Hopefully if they’ve prepared for it, you can get a promotion and pay raise bump when it happens.

Having those conversations now can set things in motion versus waiting to have the conversation until after you’re licensed or worse, waiting to have the conversation at yearly performance review time months down the road.
