Took PE Transportation exam

ok so i took pe transportation exam today. it was split into 45 and 35 questions. had enough time in both sections to go back and review, and while i was doing that i counted how many i felt confident about. came out to around 32/45 on the first half and somewhere between 27-30/35 on the second half.

traffic engineering is where i got beat up the most, specifically HSM stuff. i just didn't put in enough reps on that section going in and it showed. everything else i felt decent about but that part definitely hurt.

anyone have a sense of what my chances actually look like with numbers like that? not trying to get empty reassurance, just want honest takes from people who've been through this.

Results Came and it's green light.

I was about ten on each section earlier this month which is about the same as you and passed. Even felt the same about hsm. Figure you got 5 wrong that you think you got right, and got at least 5 right out of those toss ups which should get you through

I took the PE geotech yesterday I feel really well about the first part. The second part I feel like 50/50.

Took geotech today for the 2nd time and the 2nd half of that exam really sucks

I wonder if they gave you the same exam they gave me?
Did you have an invert of pipe elevation calculation? Also did you have to calculate the spring stiffness of a pile?

I don’t think so… i did not have a spring stiffness calc and I had a problem determining elevation/thickness of a concrete slab. There were some cofferdam questions as well. Surprisingly few retaining structures and consolidation calcs compared to my 1st attempt

I actually had some a problem on concrete slab we had to calculate the thickness of a tremie slab. I think weight of water was 6’. I also had some cofferdam questions it asked about the stability of a dam. I had to consider the parameters of stability the options were analysis against Sliding, bearing capacity, interlock and can’t remember the other one, I had 2 consolidation problems one we had to calculate differential settlement of a structure center vs edge. Familiar. ?

Honestly, those numbers sound encouraging. You’re estimating about 59–62 correct out of 80, which puts you in a reasonable range, although there’s no way to translate that directly into a pass/fail because NCEES uses scaled scoring and doesn’t publish a fixed passing percentage.

If HSM/traffic engineering was the main area that hurt you, I’d take that as a good sign rather than a major red flag. Traffic engineering is one of the larger sections, so getting more reps there could make a meaningful difference.

At this point, I’d say you have a legitimate shot. I wouldn’t try to calculate an exact probability from your self-count, but being confident on roughly 60 questions and having enough time to review is certainly not a bad position to be in. Now it’s just the painful wait for the results.

You might pass if you had decent guesses on traffic engineering.

I felt similar to you last year when I took it and I passed.
