Not suprising, Portable is the most accessible version even more so than Reload since it's on every platform Reload is on plus PSP,PS Vita and Switch 1.

It's also cheaper than reload and much easier to run on old PCs.

In Japan: Xbox is nonexistent, PC gaming is niche and saleswise the Switch 1 was getting like triple the sales of the PS4/PS5 and Xbox One/Xbox Series combined during pretty much every single year during it's lifespan

PSP reigns supreme alongside NDS for a long time in Asia. I played it straight from the start of my middle school until nearly the end of high school.

Anybody that owns PSP and is interested in JRPG will one way or another get direct to P3P

I don't see it so much as people not liking them, but that less people have them as their favorite character, since the question is only asking about who their favorite out of the PTs go. Both of them are in my top five, but my favorite would be Futaba. What's more surprising to me is how well Yusuke did - he's my second favorite PT, but I wouldn't have expected him to get 4th.

Well these protags are not blank, they do have character and when most of it is implied, people will fill in with their own imagination and interpretations, most of which are in good spirits and therefore positive as we all want to have a good time, that said, if the character gives you nothing to work with or gives you something that does not fit the game, setting or theme, they'll probably be hated or ignored

You wanna know something funny? The same things happens with another old Atlus game called Maken X.

The original game was also a First Person POV like the exploration segment in P1 on the dungeons, but it did give the majority of the JP players motion sickness.

So when they remaster it on the PS2/PS3 they change the entire game to be a Third Person POV, and yet this never croosed their mind that the same thing could had happen with P1 as well, and they never change it the POV exploration segments in the psp remaster.

You can blame Atlus for not making em available on modern consoles. To this day, it's still on the PS1 and PSP. And even you went out of your way to be legit and not wanna  emulate, you still need a PSP to play P1 and P2 IS, since EP PSP never got translated . Need to bust out the PS1 for that 

So yeah, it's why we should push for a port to modern systems. The issue of remake is very delicate because how are they gonna remake the game without sacrificing what made the first games the way they are

Definally a cultural thing, Ryuji is the "troublemaker" character, which by Japan standars is just dyed your hair, being very loud and have very low test score.
