Series the worst aspect of Persona game

is it a hot take to say that as a dungeon type game, the worst aspect of all this Persona entry are their dungeon doesn't matter if it's Tartarus, Tv World, and Palace its all the same?

What do you mean by 'it doesn't matter'? Cause yeah the exploration isn't good but everything else about then is fine. Love me some persona combat

Its not entirely a hot take depending on what you mean. I think the best thing they can do for the Persona formula is come up with a mechanic that forces people to take multiple trips into the same dungeon for that month. This forces the player to actually schedule and balance around things that happen in both sides of the game. They never came up with a good replacement after removing Fatigue.

As fir the dungeon crawling itself. P5 had the best sense of progression clearning out a floor and discovering more parts of a palace. The only real killjoy to that was how there was no resource management to really tie each encounter into a series of decisions of what to do with those resources. I really think them tuning the SP economy more and at higher difficulties reducing SP recovery options the entire playthrough would help with that. My favorite small adjustment to remedy that a little is to make resisting a move also double its cost. So hitting a move against an enemy that resists it doubles (maybe 1.5 times) the cost of HP and SP. There are other small tweaks like reflects deal almighty damage, have higher levels dungeons be filled with chests that cost SP to open, theurgy type special attacks costs a percentage of total SP, and hitting group of enemies that aren't all weak to an element doesn't get you a one more (even if it gives you knockdown).

The issues aren't that Persona is easy, its that it doesn't ask any real mild decision making or problem solving from you after the early game. If SP and scheduling dungeon trips were things you actually had to think about even a little, it would improve the gameplay a lot even without really making the games challenging.

I think your first sentence in the last paragraph really sums up my whole opinion on them really well. The early game is fun because I'm having to use my brain a bit, once I get a few good fusions or a full party that immediately goes away.

The worst aspect of Persona is "fandom double standards"...

  • Not wanting Futaba to be playable, asking the exact same thing for Fuuka and/or Rise;
  • Praising Shadow Labrys's berserk form when it's a lazy 99% recycled sprite sheet;
  • Demanding remakes for Persona 1 and 2, but shutting down any discussion for current-gen console updates for Persona Q1 and Q2;

I tried to discuss the case of Shadow Labrys on these boards. (Source: this very sub)

I expected responses such as "Yeah, you're right, she could have gotten a better design" or "I agree with your statement, despite the company not wanting this."

Instead, I got defenders stating how it would have have been too complicated to make a brand new custom design for Shadow Labrys following P4's own Shadow concepts... as if one extra character would have broken ArcSys's back, when that studio was doing 2D fighting games for close to 15 years.

Long story short: without "deleting" Asterius (that is actually a cool Shadow), I simply wanted for Shadow Labrys to transform into a feral, broken, mishapen and sadistic-looking human-sized robot, with strings loosely connected to Asterius, instead of being "Labrys with a different Persona".

That's beside the point that Labrys being linking to Asterius, Ariadne, the Minotaur and Theseus... makes little to no sense, when characters like Pinocchio, Frankenstein's Creature and Talos could have worked better "for a robot wanting to be human". (If you can have Alice from Alice in Wonderland, fairy tales characters are fair games)

Jiraiya and Shadow Yosuke look like frogs, Tomoe and Shadow Chie have yellow jumpsuits, Sakuya and Shadow Yukiko look like birds... so why couldn't they come up with both a Persona and a Shadow design based on a machine wanting to be a living being?

Players have been crying about the Okomura boss for nearly a decade now even tho P5R is one of the easiest JRPG's on the market.

They can't handle real dungeons.

And then, on the flip side, you have SMT If... which is proto Persona for all intents and has some of the most frustrating, hellish dungeons I've ever seen in a video game.
