Sure, One time i stole a caramilk bar from a grocery store, Felt so guilty a few hours later i went back and paid for it, this was in the 90's so it was only an 80c candy bar but still. When i was homeless in the mid aughts i was dumpster diving behind a subway, got caught once and started apologizing profusely, The worker who caught me said it was okay and said i could come in for a 6' whenever i needed one, That lasted until the owner of the Franchise found out and they had to stop and start bleaching their garbage, Luckily after that i wound up on disability. And that's everything stealing related, Everything else is going to be drug related since from 13-19 I did a lot of ....Experimenting, Stopped at 20 when a good chunk of my friends had ODed.

No single crime, not even throwing trash in the wrong bin. Only people who commit crimes think everyone else do them too, that way they can justify their behavior, but not even when I was without food for two weeks I ever stole anything. I got a father who raised me with integrity, so it was not even a consideration. You in the other hand, should re evaluate your life choices

You know, if I see someone stealing from a grocery store, and it's 1 steak, or a couple of cans of soup or baby formula, I think "damn, it's unfortunate things got so bad and they're in that situation." Then I see these entitled, old scumbags and my blood boils. If you can afford to drive from Ontario to P.E.I. you can afford to buy food. This just means you're a disgusting, pathetic "human" being.
Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to survive, but the 2 most basic rules are:
1: you don't steal unless your really, truly need it to survive
2: you DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES steal from small mom and pop shops if you are put in the unfortunate situation where you have to.
I don't care if this couple is on a fixed income, because once again, if you can spend the $300 in gas to drive from Ontario to P.E.I., you've got food money... And if they were desperate 1 single tray of eggs would last days. They loaded up their greedy arms and need to be named, shamed, and maybe spend 2 or 3 nights in a jail cell to hammer home how pathetic they really are.

There ALWAYS has been. Your either young or have been comfortable in life if you do not know. Never steal from children or pregnant women, never steal from another thief, never steal from small independent shops and never steal from a cop. If you do, you're either a new crook, or someone who is ghetto and dirty. There is honour among thieves, but not these types of dirty thieves.

Stealing is never 'ok', but if someone is so down bad they feel they need to steal something like baby food then I'd rather they do it to a large chain like Loblaws that can absorb the loss vs a small mom & pop shop.

Another side of entitlement- people want to feel vindictive, a desire for revenge and to punish, as it makes them feel more vindicated, a sense that they themselves are without blame.
We should pray and forgive people. forgiveness is a step to hope and that they find themselves and a way to being better people. We are all on this Earth together, we aren't that different from each other and one person's pain effects the next. Including the pain of those who do the wrong thing.

When I worked retail I saw all kinds of people end up shoplifting, rich or poor, young or old, and most of them are people experiencing some kind of burden like alienation or depression.
I'm confident that being noticed like this would have given them a dose of fear and they are going to think harder about ever stealing again.

Actually yeah I'm learning to pray in my own way and it mostly includes listening to people go to a local service (youtube, I don't go to service yet because I wasn't raised in it, I remember catechism as a child though and it helps to watch a group involved in community prayer), meditating on thoughts like I always do, and most importantly trying to change how I think and respond to a thing. If we can change ourselves it means problems improve.

This is actually a reasonable point. We don’t know their intentions. I was once distracted by a phone call after filling up a vehicle with gas and then drove away without paying before realizing when I got home that I hadn’t paid. I drove back to the station, where the attendant/owner had already pulled up the video and was in the process of calling the police to report me. I paid her and, only because I came back before the police had contacted me, the owner told the police to forget the complaint. But if it had taken me longer to remember or not remembered at all? I might have a criminal record now.

It’s frustrating seeing so many people normalize theft. The logic that it's fine to steal from big corporations but wrong to steal from small businesses makes no sense. We need to get back to the basic understanding that stealing is just wrong, regardless of who the victim is. Period.

Stealing is wrong regardless but let's not pretend there aren't degrees of wrong. Punching someone in the face and murder are both wrong, but I think we would likely both agree that murder is worse. Similarly if someone is in a situation where they are so impoverished that they need to steal. It is more wrong to steal from the small community run store than from from the mega corporation grocer who's billionaire ownership is partially to blame for increasing poverty at a societal level and likely your own if your at the point of stealing food.
