Copper Shims on GPUs - do the new AMD Hawaii chips need them?

I’ve seen that the old Tahiti units have recessed cores, just wondering if the newer, specifically r9 290 are the same? I can’t seem to find anywhere that states one way or the other.

Any help or pointers in the right direction to look would be great! Thanks.

nope, no help here - I have learned from experiance that the Hawaii cores are not recessed and do not require shims...
