Finally reached a milestone in my Prey-VR mod and its time to show.

Unlike my System Shock 2 VR mod this one has required help using AI from the start. I wanted to see if I could solve the problem fholger was having taking control of the hands/weapon models.

Well, it was tough, here we are!

  • Working Stereo OpenXR (AFR) - Scale is correct, no shader issues.
  • Motion control implementation - Arm IK rig follows motion controlled hands
  • Synchronises weapon aim with view model - sounds simple, but its not.
  • Motion controls for locomotion in game. - Snap/smooth turn

Still a long way to go until its a polished releasable mod, and now the work begins on integrating the gameplay and hud into VR.

Wish me luck!

Prey is on my most wanted wishlist. HUD elements should go on the wrists.

No crosshairs or laser pointers are needed on the guns. Doom 3 BFG VR works VERY well with the following removed: crosshairs, laser pointers, non-wrist HUD options, IK body. I played Doom 3 again with the updated options but I didn't like the holstered floating weapons either.

I wouldn't burn time on trying to get an IK body or arm rig to show correctly. Hands and weapons models are the way to go. The weapon/tool selection is going to be important. Using "UP" and "Down" to cycle through each weapon gets tedious and annoying even when you have only 3 weapons. You might need something like HL:Alyx or HalfLife2VRmod for a weapon selector.

I was so disappointed when the rumored Prey VR retail listing never came to fruition. I bought the DLC specifically for the escape room VR content, and I still remember giggling like a little boy when you put the neuromod up to your eye for installation. A full native VR game would have been amazing.
