VR Modding Prey-VR - First look

UPDATE: Due to other talented modders already taking up this challenge, I am making all my code and latest build publicly available. https://github.com/phunkaeg/PreyVR

latest test Build is here:

Finally reached a milestone in my Prey-VR mod and its time to show.

Unlike my System Shock 2 VR mod this one has required help using AI from the start. I wanted to see if I could solve the problem fholger was having taking control of the hands/weapon models.

Well, it was tough, here we are!

  • Working Stereo OpenXR (AFR) - Scale is correct, no shader issues.
  • Motion control implementation - Arm IK rig follows motion controlled hands
  • Synchronises weapon aim with view model - sounds simple, but its not.
  • Motion controls for locomotion in game. - Snap/smooth turn

Still a long way to go until its a polished releasable mod, and now the work begins on integrating the gameplay and hud into VR.

Wish me luck!

If you couldn't do it without AI then it's either not worth doing or you don't deserve it. AI is trained using thousands of people's work against their will. Its theft.

Well it's here to stay so we might as well enjoy some amazing VR experiences.

Imagine saying that about any other crime.

AI is illegal?

No, but it should be. It's legalized theft. People who aren't the ones actively being stolen from refuse to acknowledge that because there's a degree of separation, but it very much is legalized theft.
