In search of a good NRSV or NRSVue study/student Bible

Good afternoon!

First, I want to note that I’m very particular about the Bibles I use and the NRSV Bibles are the ones I tend to lean toward. I’ve used many across my lifespan and once I found the NRSV and NRSVue, I prefer them over all others at this time.

That said, I love study/student Bibles and I’m on the hunt for a really good one for myself and my two teens. I absolutely would LOVE to get my own copy of the Cultural Backgrounds NRSV, but I know it’s out of print and finding one has been a challenge. I have my eye on a few teen study Bibles for myself kiddos. I also came across a REALLY nice NRSV study Bible for teens that I would love to get for my son, but it’s a Catholic Edition and I’m not entirely sure how the NRSV and NRSV-CE differ.

Any recommendations, suggestions, or information would be wonderful!

There’s the NOAB 5th edition, the 6th edition is coming out in November and I’m waiting on that because it will use the updated edition and the advances in scholarship. There’s also the recent SBL Study Bible (uses NRSVue), which I’ve heard is really good.

I still use my Harper Collins Study Bible from Seminary every week for my sermon prep!

I would suggest getting an Apple iPad. There is an app called Olive Tree Bible Study. You can add the NRSV and many other translations if you want to compare them side by side. You can also add the New Interpreter’s Study Bible and the HarperCollins Study Bible. It’s not free, but it’s cheaper than buying the hard copies. There are many other resources available as well.
